Starting over, discouraged about DD's hair

Small Rant

As crazy as this may sound I need to go back and research healthy hair habits. The things i'm doing for my hair is not working for my DD. I've contributed the Depo shot to her breakage. Back to the drawing board I go *deep sigh*

tis all

When I saw this I said (out loud) "NOOOO!" When I think of you I think of your posts about your daughter's (or is it two daughters') hair. You'll get it back in shape for sure. :yep:

Just one DD:yep:. Yeah i just need to take some time and re-familiarize myself with what used to work when having this problem. I have to admit I've become pretty lazy with our hair because it doesn't take much to maintain mine atleast. :ohwell:

Have you considered taking her off Depo?

I asked her last night if she considered taking the pill and she doesn't trust herself to remember to take it every day. If I can't find a solution that may be the last result

I have it so I get a text message to remind me to take it through bedsider.org that and there's a 6 hour leeway to take regular hormonal bc pills while with progesterone only (a.k.a the mini pills) it is much more stringent. Even so there are other methods to try so best of luck with that and the hair situation.

Could it be something besides depo. I'm on depo and I don't have breakage.

Depo should have been illegal years ago. Whether its causing her hair breakage or not maybe consider a different method.

Honestly I don't really know. What I do know i noticed the breakage couple months after her getting on the shot. For minute I thought we were on the up swing when i kept it in braids. Periodly she has been wearing clips ins or her own hair. frustrated and guitly. I see the way she looks at my hair and wonder what's wrong with her.

If you don't mind me asking why the statement? The only side effect I see in my dd is the breakage (if that is the cause) She has not gained any weight. She does sleep more but other than that nothing.

eyunka - Love your pic. You are so pretty!!

Agreeing that Depo is the devil!!

I gained 35-40 lbs on Depo over 6 months. That is more than I gained with either of my pregnancies. I didn't have any hair issues though but it is different for everyone.

Weight gain IS the main complaint I hear about the shot. She has been on it for a year now. When she goes into the doctor they always talk about how skinny she is or if its a new nurse she asked if they is her 1st time getting the shot.

eyunka Depo is just a really bad method of BC. My cousin got pregnant on it for starters  But seriously my sister gained 30 pounds in 6 weeks on it. My mom also works in a hospital and she says people come in often with clots from it. Some more severe than others but no blood clots are good. Not trying to scare you but just letting you know.

i didn't have problems when i was on it. just get her levels checked and make sure she is taking a multi vit. i have had to change my reggie. things that worked before, don't now.

I didn't gain any weight while on depo either. I actually got pregnant on bc pills, took them everyday too. Well, I hope you find out what's causing the breakage. She might need to clarify and do a protein treatment. I hope it all works out for her.

Just 40? I gained 80!!! I also had intense mood swings between rage and depression as well as sleepiness.

OP, I don't recall hair issues, though

Would your DD be willing to try Implanon? It's a tiny implant in the arm that lasts 3 years and might be better for her hair at least. No shots every 3 months. ANd it's nothing to take everyday.

I gained a ton too! Definitely didn't care for Depo.

I'm sorry to hear about your dd's hair. I just had to come in and say that I agree with some of the other posters that you should consider putting your daughter on something else. I hardly dispense Depo at all and it gets a bad rep in the healthcare industry. Here are some recommendations that would possibly work for dd since she forgets to take her pill:

Nuvaring- this is inserted vaginally for 21 days; off one week

Ortho Evra patch- this patch is applied once a week and a new patch is applied every 7 days for 3 weeks; off one week.

I've been on Depo on and off since 1998. I love it because I don't have to remember to take a pill and I don't have a menstral when I'm on it (sorry if TMI). My hair didn't suffer and I didn't experience any weight gain as a result of the shot. However, I can attest to the moodiness and low libido :(

When I was younger, I thought that the hormones were actually helping my hair grow. I'm not too sure if that's the case these days, now that I have hair knowledge.
