Spinoff: Appropriate Church Attire

I think if we truly respect one another and see each other as "Brothers and Sisters" in Christ, men and women should be able to mingle freely.

Maybe in a better world, mingle without gossip. There's nothing without limits. Human behavior and hordes of cases where things have gone awry is evidence we need limitations lol! What, none of the churches where pastors ran off with the secretaries were truly churches? :lachen: Flesh and blood...and sex hormones...just waiting to happen. Mingle...but don't think wifie isn't going to be giving the evil eye when a single female takes too much interest in friendship with a married man. LIkewise, when a married man is too interested in a single female who's not comfortable with that...it's not just one direction. Thing is, people do worship together...do mingle together...but not without limits. Who's saying they shouldn't be as sisters and brothers? Posters presented specific issues in counseling regarding temptations.

I understand having limits. But not "speaking" to the opposite sex?

You're twisting words...who is advocating not speaking to each other? Reread the posts please....okay...please??? We started talking about one thing, cultural context was introduced and explained...now it's being misconstrued as we shouldn't speak to each other?? :nono: Nobody is advocating that. If anything, cultural context of the scriptures was demonstrating just how modern and changed we are. So, you believe in limits? Then maybe you should give your opinion on how things should go down. I'm interested...um, regarding counseling of member of the opposite sex for marital problems and whatnot.

Sorry, I guess I was talking about how you said early Christianity involved the same exact customs of what you experienced in the Synagogue you went to.

Well, yes, I did. But that is judaism and ultra-orthodoxy. They still live a lot of those limitations today. Early christians were Jews. Didn't say exact same customs....many of the same customs and climate. Some of the older churches still exhibit the same. I think we can learn alot from them.
