Spin-off: what's the longest time you've wore a weave?

I cant keep my hands out of my hair and I want to get a weave for maximum growth. The weave and style- cost $$$$. So I was planning on getting the weave and keeping it in for 2 1/2 months. My question to u gals is:
1- has anyone kept a weave in for 2 months or longer
2- did anyone not have major breakage and shedding
3- if so how did you maintain it

Basically I worked really hard to obtain the hair length that I have now and i will die if i have to cut it all out due to dreading or matting or shedding.

I keep my sew-in up about 3 months. I was natural so and I didn't notice any major shedding. About the normal amount considering the time. I went to the salon every two weeks for a wash. In between I would just oil my scalp.

Nine weeks and I felt that i should have gotten it out in six due to my growth. I thought I had a lot of shedding but probably not. You have to think I didnt comb for weeks and hair naturally sheds. So that ball of hair was normal. I do feel you need to moisturize the hair as if it were out or in braids.
My next salon visit Im getting a partial sewin let's see how long that will make it.

Hey cherokee thank you for responding to my message. Can you tell me how you were able to take care of it?/? What style you had?

Hi Mysweetevie
Thanks for responding. Are you natural? How did you take out the weave?
What moisturizer did you use during the period?

Hi there. I wear my full head weaves from 6-8 weeks - have tried to keep them in longer but depending of how it feels when my hair grows underneath - cos sometimes when it gets looser Im not happy with how it looks. the shortest time was 3 weeks and thats because my ex-hairdresser gave me a weave - knowing that I must have left her salon with my tracks showing  - Ive found another hairdresser!!

Just make sure when you have your weave in that your hair underneath is moisturised and when you have washed it that you make sure that your hair is dry before adding your hair oil otherwise you might find that when you take the weave off your hair is all matted. to take it out I just tend to look for the thread and cut that being careful that i just cut the thread and no hair - once you have taken off the weave you may find all pieces of threads hanging in your cornrows i try to get all those out too. then I work through each cornrow - I then put in conditioner and comb the hair to take out all those hairs that would have fallen had my hair been loose. Once Ive done that and Im 100% there are no knots or anything I then give my hair a proper wash and condition. Dependent on the time I might even do a deeper condition with a bag or hot towel around my head. hope that helps. Not sure if all the girls do the same thing when they take off their weaves but I would be interested to hear their taking down techniques but this so far works for me - my hair is just passed shoulder length - the first time ever as it just about touches my shoulders - admittedly its fine (but thats how its always been).

It was straight in a wrap. It was about armpit length. Oh it was easy for the style I had. I would pull my hair back into two ponytails in the back of my head, side by side. I would wrap a scarf around my head. I would tie it loosely with the ponytails tucked underneath. This would keep the bend. However, sometimes I would just wrap the scarf around the perimeter of my head and let the ponytails hang. I used a small, loose scrunchy. Either way the ponytail kept the bend also.

HTH.

5 minutes......
