Spin Off:Anyone start at EL or above and is now APL or BSL?

This is a GREAT thread Wannabelong!!! This is sooo inspiring, it's exactly what I needed to read. Thank you All for contributing.

In Sept. 07, I cut my MBL hair (think Lady Paniolo's sig pic below) to an a' la Rihanna/Mary J. Blige style 1" on the sides, and 3-4" in the top. I'm now MBL again, and it's not even 3 years later. I have cut my hair again in the meantime in June 08 I cut off my SL hair into a TWA after a 13 month transition. So, it's possible with good care, patience, and decent conditioners!

This is a great thread! Two weeks ago I cut 1-3 inches off of my lower-collar-bone-length hair (I feel the need to specify b/c I don't understand the hair chart. Like why is CBL above shoulder length? I didn't even claim shoulder length until I was LCBL... I digress). APL is my short term goal and it's good to know that the possibility of it happening in 14 months or so with great care is encouraging. Thank you ladies! Ya'll are awesome!

I love reading these types of threads. They give me inspiration and hope. EL to APL is a huge hurdle to overcome.

^^topnotch, your hair looks great!! you've had fantastic progress!
i'm currently growing out a bob, so that gives me a good idea of what to expect ten months from now :)

Well, I was at full SL in Jan 2007 then in Feb 2007, a stylist who likes to take chances with her life gave me a new starting point: a little under 3 inches:

OMG!!! I started this thread and now I can be my own inspiration. I started with a pixie cut back in Nov. 2007 (pic in avatar), now I'm BSL on my way to MBL (pic in siggy). Giving a shout out to all the shorties, I'm living proof it can be done!

I BC in April 2010 I had a good 1.5" I made apl about a month ago:) ill post pics later I have to get the older ones from photobucket

I cut my hair to my chin for a straight bob style in dec of 09. I liked it at first but it didn't look right unless my hair was bone straight. So I never got it cut for that style again. It took a year for it to get to apl. Of course I was heavy with heat back then. I kept my ends clipped every month because they were fried. It still managed to reach an inch or two from bsl, but the ends had to go. I'm bsl now and I'm just tired of the bone straight style.

Thank you ladies for all the inspiration I'm a newbie currently in a pixie cut aspiring for apl. I haven't been apl since I was 11 years old.

Do you mind sharing your regimen?

How long before you started seeing growth?

Any setbacks/advice?

sweetvi

I have the same regimen as I did when i started and it is pretty simple. I wash and DC once a week. I moisturize and seal with an oil at least once per day, usually at night. I sleep with a satin scarf or bonnet every night. I started seeing growth after 3 months of doing this. Seeing growth after 3 months gave me encouragement to keep going.

Other things I did/do: I wore half wigs until my hair was long enough to pull into a low pigtail , then I wore a UPA clip until I was comfortable wearing my own hair out. I couldn't stretch my relaxers when my hair was really short so I relaxed every 8 weeks and then each time I tried to add another week before relaxing. Now I relax any where between 12 - 20 weeks. In the beginning I tried growth aids: MN, Boundless Tresses and Mega-tek but those faded quickly. I do not attribute any of my growth to using growth aids. I trim my hair whenever I feel like it, usually about every 6- 9 months. I limit direct heat by air drying or rollersetting my hair and I flat iron using a heat protectant once every 3 months or so. I've been blessed not to have any set backs.

My advice is to nail down a simple regimen and stick to it. I find when you have 50-11 steps to your regimen it's hard to stick with it. Don't jump on every bandwagon you see, just because it worked for someone else does not mean it will work for you. Be consistent and don't give up! Slow and steady wins the race. Take progress pictures every 3 months or so, that way you can see your progress. Most of all, and this is the hard part - try not to compare yourself with anyone on this board.

I hope this helps and feel free to ask me all the questions you like.
