Speak for yourself on that one.:lachen:My African descended hair isn't difficult, and I'm not coping with it, I love it. Natural or relaxed.:yep:

When I had my Halle cut, I got relaxed faithfully every 4 weeks at the salon. My hair stayed looking salon fresh. I think you can get away with it with really short hair, but if you want it to grow to be thick and healthy, relaxing every 4 weeks will hinder you.

:yep: Yep, for a really short cut the back needs to stay straight. I can't tell you how many times I've seen women with the top of their hair Revlon straight, and the back looking like Fight the Power.

i successfully grew my hair from between shoulder length and apl to bsl relaxing every 6 weeks. i just used no heat at all in between relaxers and did alot of daily rinsing and always did a protein treatment 1 week before relaxing.

my hair was not thin either. i wasnt into taking pics of my hair from behind but i am searching for any pics i have from then where u can see the length...

For a second I thought you were upset about the word RUFFLY spelled wrong LOL

Every 5 weeks is insane! Most people don't know better though.
I used to slather the relaxer all over my hair and wonder why it would break off

That's where I stopped...at first. I thought she was pointing out that this person was illiterate trying to give a review. Then I read on and my opinion didn't change.

ETA~ My last statement sounded harsh, but to say a product is great based on a cute box...hmmm.

I don't care how fast my hair grows, I would never get a relaxer every 6wks. Imagine the damage it does to your scalp over time...no wonder people think relaxers make your hair thin out! Currently, I relax every 4mths and I would rather go 6mths...and I have 4a very kinky texture. If we can transition with a relaxer, we can go more than 6wks without a relaxer, JMHO.

Okay ya'll I'm not relaxed, but I wanted to throw this question out as I may be interested in a relaxer in the future. hypothetically if your hair is growing 3/4 to an inch a month, would 6 wks be too much? I mean after all most people are claiming 1/4 to 1/2 every month so in two months (8 wk) that's only 1/2 to 1 inch and they're relaxing. What about someone whose hair is growing faster than that?

I don't like throwing people under the bus (sorry in advanced if it's anyone on here), but I read this while I was browsing the GHD styler section on Sephora:

"Being African american I wasn't sure this product would work for me but it did. I get a relaxer ruffly once a month now because it keeps my hair looking like I just come out of a salon. I do highly suggest getting some type of heat protection for your hair if you are gong to use this product or any flat iron. The box is cute and the styler itself is nice. Overall I am very happy with this item."

:nono::nono::nono:

Things like this and the Halloween videos on Youtube some people call tutorials make me want to go out and ban them from using relaxers and heat lol. Comments like this give relaxers an awfully bad rap. I wonder how often she was relaxing before GHD.

She's happy though so ah well.
The bolded:lachen: This is exactly what many of them are.

I found this one today about Mizani BBs :(

The only thing I wish is that it lasted longer. I have a short cut, and end up having to relax every 3 weeks or so. With very long hair like my daughters, they are able to wait 4-5 weeks.

Well, to be honest, there were times when I relaxed every 4-6 weeks. I never had any scalp damage. So, yeah....I don't see the big deal. Some people go for style & not necessarily length.

ETA: Actually, you can see from the pic in my avatar - that was when I was relaxing every 4-6 weeks with Phytorelaxer, back in college. My hair was healthy, I just rocked a short jet black layered bob and loved it.

I used to relax every 4 weeks on the dot, so i guess what she said doesn't really phase me.... I've learned though. Some people haven't so I don't expect them to know all about healthy hair care because a lot of people don't come a cross someone telling them about it. But I know quite a few women on here who relax every 6 weeks... now i don't see an issue with that.

I agree. Up until last year I was getting my hair professionally relaxed every 5 weeks and my hair never really broke off, always stayed well past shoulder lenght and was thick.

I think that you can suffer just as much or even more damage by trying to stretch if you don't know the right products and techniques for your hair. I actually suffered more hair damage trying to do an 8+ week relaxer stretch when I first joined LHCF than when I relaxed every 5 weeks because I didn't know how to deal with all of the extra new growth thus I suffered a lot of breakage.

I think that a lot depends on the individual, the hair type and the products/techniques that they are using to maintain their hair between relaxers.

I had a relaxer once a month when my hair was the length in my aviator. I had i really short cut and kept it cut constantly so I don't see anything wrong with that. Never had a split end cause i never gave them negros the chance to split!

If your hair is shorter and you're always cutting it, I would think it's fine. But she mentioned her daughters had longer hair. I'd be scared. I'm sure their hair would be thin over time because of too much overlapping. If y'all know anyone that can relax 4 weeks, or less, NG and NOT overlap, then shut me up :D
