I don't like throwing people under the bus (sorry in advanced if it's anyone on here), but I read this while I was browsing the GHD styler section on Sephora:

"Being African american I wasn't sure this product would work for me but it did. I get a relaxer ruffly once a month now because it keeps my hair looking like I just come out of a salon. I do highly suggest getting some type of heat protection for your hair if you are gong to use this product or any flat iron. The box is cute and the styler itself is nice. Overall I am very happy with this item."

Things like this and the Halloween videos on Youtube some people call tutorials make me want to go out and ban them from using relaxers and heat lol. Comments like this give relaxers an awfully bad rap. I wonder how often she was relaxing before GHD.

She's happy though so ah well.

i always say i dont understand how someone can relax so often but some people claim their natural hair is so difficult. i keep my thoughts to myself most times but i seriously doubt your new growth can be so rough concidering you might not even get 1 inch in a month but whatever.....

Technically a month is less than 5 whole weeks. That's seriously pushing it.

I don't think it has much to do with people having difficult hair. We're all of African descent, and therefore have the most difficult hair. It comes down to not wanting to try or learn to cope with our hair, IMO...

For a second I thought you were upset about the word RUFFLY spelled wrong LOL

Every 5 weeks is insane! Most people don't know better though.
I used to slather the relaxer all over my hair and wonder why it would break off

Well, the woman said she relaxes her hair once a month because "it keeps my hair looking like I just come out of a salon." You can only imagine what her scalp looks like.

Well, for a while I was getting my relaxers every 4-6 wks. Then I began strecting to 8-10 wks- and this was before I came here. Some people don't know... old habits die hard.

My dad's wife runs a relaxer through her "hair" about every 2 weeks but she has a low fade and it's PLATINUM blonde.

My mom & sister relax about every 6 weeks but they both have short cuts (mom maybe has 2 inches of hair).

Has to be fake, this reads as though written by a third grader.

Sometimes people just don't know any better. I've heard a few people declare loud & proud that their hair is "nappy" and "natural" just because they haven't gotten a touch-up in a couple months... :perplexed Your roots may be natural, but that's about it! :lachen:

my aunt does hers every 2 weeks, or she says whenever she feels a wave in her hair. its shiny and pretty and she does not use heat at all but it doesn't go past her ears very often.

Consider the source... in a review, what is the relevance of the "box being cute"??
:look:
I'm thinking - based on the rest of the review - that she isn't very educated about hair or hair products. Thus, the box being cute would influence her to buy it...... :ohwell:

My mom does it every two weeks or so.

I'm surprised she still has any hair.

Okay ya'll I'm not relaxed, but I wanted to throw this question out as I may be interested in a relaxer in the future. hypothetically if your hair is growing 3/4 to an inch a month, would 6 wks be too much? I mean after all most people are claiming 1/4 to 1/2 every month so in two months (8 wk) that's only 1/2 to 1 inch and they're relaxing. What about someone whose hair is growing faster than that?

Back when folks were REALLY rocking the Halle Berry cut, i found out what a "partial" relaxer was.

The kitchen had to look good to hold up that close cut so women would get a partial relaxer about 2-4 weeks to keep the look fresh.:nono:

I dont see how folks still have hair.

No one wants to answer my question?

Well, I guess if your hair grows 1"/month, relaxing every 4-5 weeks technically would be ok (I can't believe I'm saying this!!), but a hair care professional would probably wait until 6 weeks for the scalp's sake...I guess??

14 y/o shouldn't be allowed to post reviews (I say this b/c the "cute box" was a selling point for the product)

Well, let's say she's sporting a Halle Berry-do, is a $300 iron really needed? If my hair was that short and I was getting it relaxed that frequently at a salon, I probably wouldn't have money for that iron in the first place lol.

Speak for yourself on that one.:lachen:My African descended hair isn't difficult, and I'm not coping with it, I love it. Natural or relaxed.:yep:

When I had my Halle cut, I got relaxed faithfully every 4 weeks at the salon. My hair stayed looking salon fresh. I think you can get away with it with really short hair, but if you want it to grow to be thick and healthy, relaxing every 4 weeks will hinder you.

When i was relaxing I actually got a relaxer every 3 weeks... by that time i had a substantial amount of new growth and you could certainly tell the difference b/w the new growth and the relaxed hair... that being said the breakage that I got b/c of improper washing and conditioning negated any of that growth...

i know we always say it depends on the person and I think that relaxers are the same way... it depends on the persons rate of hair growth and the style... If they aren't going for length or health it's up to them how much they relax their hair.... na what I mean
