Comb and detangle before getting in shower to wash?

The reason I ask is because I usually detangle and removed the shedded hair thats been collecting for two months BEFORE i get in the shower to wash. The reason I do this is because I knew this girl that didnt detangle or comb thru FIRST (after having a sew-in for 2 months) and just washed her hair and in the process of washing all her hair tangled and matted up on top of her head and she couldnt detangle...it was like a birds nest...and she ended up cutting of all her hair.

Do you think it was the way she washed it that caused it to tangle that way?

I know its bad to detangle on dry hair but its what Ive been doing to avoid such a catastrophe

Suggestions ladies??

You should DEFINITELY detangle first. I wet my hair 1st after leaving a sew-in for 2 months and I lost soooo much hair. I'm still trying to recover.

What I have done is separate my hair into four sections, and work on one section at a time. What I use is a small tooth comb and wide tooth comb and my favorite cheap conditioner and evoo.

  1. First I detangle section one working with both combs
  2. Apply alot of conditioner w/ evoo to that detangled section
  3. And clip it up or put into a thick braid
I repeat the same process with the following sections

And when I get in the shower I wash one section at a time and rebraid or clip that section that has been rinsed.

Hope this helps.

most def detangle before getting in the shower. I couldn't be bothered once and thought i'd be fine :nono:. The tangles were like sailor knots! I detangle with my oil mix -Evoo, Neem, Coconut and Jojoba to make things easier; works as a prepoo too! HTH

What I did that worked well: Detangled with my hands then slathered on some deep conditioner (protein and moisture) then let that sit for a WHILE then work that through with a wide tooth comb. This gets the tangles and shed hair out before you wash, but gives you a layer of protection. I then shampoo'd and continued as normal.

By all means PLEASSSSSEEEEEEEEEE detangle first. if not you will have a tangled mess that you may have to cut out. :nono:

YEsssss!!! DETANGLING is a must.... several months ago I had braids and I took them out and I hop in the shower after partially detangling and I starting washing and:nono:.... got out the shower to comb and it was badly tangle I had to cut alot alot alot of hair not to mention my sides were gone from wearing the braids:blush: I was so hurt and baldheaded:perplexed and my hair is still trying to recover

P.S I keep having all these setbacks seems like I will never reach my goal
