Your daughter is so fortunate to have you as a role model Sylver2, for your long, beautiful, healthy, straight hair (and for looking like her sister! ;) )
If you say no, she's at that age where she just might go and get a relaxer anyway, and get it done by someone who doesn't know what they are doing.
I say yes so she can get it done the right way the first time and to get it out of her system. :yep:

oh im not worried about that, she would never do that..disobey. She would just sulk until she was 18..lol. shes a good girl:).
but i must admit i am weakening...i may get her a mild relaxer. I guess i understand her point of view. maybe later she'll want to back natural since she's experienced relaxed. if not she'll always wonder and want to relax.
I'm gonna take her to get her hair pressed and see how long that lasts.

I have been holding her off for so long hoping she'll change her mind but..nope. She turns 16 next week. she said she is tired of not being able to do anything with her hair. She's tired of twists and ponytails and braids and frizzyness..lol. Can she please get a relaxer..sigh.
I told her to wait a lil while longer because i just don't think she's ready for a relaxer just yet.
Maybe i can get her a texturizer or something..whatever that is..
any advice?

Ok, I can't even comment on the issue at hand first. I would've swore you were like 22, maybe 23. So, that means you had her at 7.:lachen: Looking good girlfriend!

But anyway, does she take care of her hair like she should? I mean does she show you she can really handle a relaxer or texturizer? I think they are probably easier than natual hair but their are some things you can't neglect. Like how to handle the dif. textures in ng without pulling your hair out i.e. stretching, deep conditioning, etc. She probably moisturizes religiously now so that should be no problem.

I would make her wait until she's 18. i remember being 16...thought I knew everything and didn't have a clue...

ITA!!!

As for the relaxer...maybe she should take a look at this site. This way she can decide what she wants to do. There are many ladies here w/ long beautiful hair natural and relaxed. She should take her lifestyle into condsideration and weigh out the pros and cons of a relaxer and then make her decision. hth!

```````Ditto!
My mother didn't let me do anything to my almost-waist length hair until my 17th birthday...I shaved one side, dyed it, and cut it! But she taught me how to take care of it, and it's grown out and now I enjoy a relaxer every two months. I imagine you're good with self-care, so she'll have a great teacher, let her go for it!
Hey Sylver if you think she is old enough to take care of her relaxed hair and you can provide her with the resourses (LHCF of course) and good products I think she will be okay, you are the hair guru. Maybe if she isnt ready for the relaxer, you can take her to get a blowout and see how she takes care of it..
Team Make Her Wait :lol:
Only because my mom made me wait until 18 and when I got off to college I undid all that hard work. At age 19 I relaxed and wished I never did! :p
I am not going to commit on if you should or shouldn't. I will give you this information based on what I know about you hair care is important and you have taught her how to take care of her hair in the current state that it is in. My step daughter is now 17 and it took me several years showing her how to take care of her hair, since her hair is a totally different texture from her mom. Her mom had relaxers in her hair as long as I can remember, I know for sure since she was 9. When she was 13 she ask me how to take care of her relax hair since her mom doesn't relax. Now she is the queen of hair.
But my hair care knowledge came from my mom, she taught so great old school habbits that I have to admit I chose not to follow to try something that cause me to cut off my hair several times. I didn't even realize how much I put care into my hair until my 6 year old metioned to me Saturday night that it was time to wash and put the long conditoner in her hair because she knew it was time for that conditoner, plus she like sitting under my new Pibbs hair dryer with the cap on. She loves the way her natural hair comes out afterwards, she will go get the castor oil, BT, Keracare cream headress so I can finish off her hair.
Just waiting until she is 18 becuase she is considered an adult will not teach her how to take care of her hair, how to notice signs of when to do a protein treament, reconstructor, add moisture; how to properly roller set, air dry or any other proper hair care technique without giving her the knowledge.
I didn't mean your daughter would go out and get a relaxer to defy you, I guess I was seeing her as being a grown woman at 16 (or almost grown :look: ).
I got my first professional relaxer when I was 15 and it was a very positive experience (my mother gave me my first relaxer the year before). I felt it was my hair and it didn't occur to me to ask for permission first. I had a good job and was very responsible. My parents congratulated me and admired my new, relaxed hairstyle (a pretty, shoulder-length bob) .
I do understand that each parent has their own rules for their children and hair and that's a good thing. :yep:
