i know that we can't get our hair as strong as the other races, but I still think it's possible to get it really strong, our version of really strong. I won't compare my natural hair strand to another races cuz I think that would get frustrating, but I'm definitely committed to making my relaxed kinky hair as strong and as in good condition as it can be! I know you all are too. And it seems like some of the ladies have already gotten their relaxed hair to be super strong. So congrats and I'll be there soon!

This is a very old thread, but I'm bumping anyway because it made me laugh.

I've done strand test on other people's stray hair before and noticed that their hair was a lot stronger than what I was used too. I did try henna for a few months but that didn't really make my hair stronger from what I noticed.

 @ inspecting somebody elses shed hair... It's official we're obsessed.

LOL, I'm just happy I'm not the only one. I posted this is "You know your obsessed" thread a few months ago and I mentioned this and people thought it was odd. Although this is a few of these members are probably gone now, including you :look:

Ya'll...I just pulled a strand out of my freak'n scalp because I wanted to see how strong my hair is....SMH...and I pulled mine so tight that it curled up as if you took some strings and ran it across a pair of scissors yet it did not pop. It also feels as thick as a peice of sewing thread. I have it sitting on my desk at work like it's a strange new species that I just found.

Hmm.....lemme find out I have bullet proof hair!

It made me laugh too. Except, I would have been busy wiping the shed hair off my desk and onto the floor LOL.

Interesting thread.

While I do well retaining length I definitely treat my hair like it's this fragile material. I'm relaxed but my natural hair is extremely coily and I can feel remnants of the bends in the cuticle, plus the variation in coarseness along a single strand because of those bends. My relaxed hair is somewhat tangly because of this and if I were to brush it on a regular basis it would be breakage city. Careful manipulation is my #1 hair strategy for retention, everything else is secondary.

I know non-black women who have slow growing hair, fine hair, etc. but overall their hair strands can take more of a beating. Those Indian and Middle Eastern women though.. man. Even up close sometimes I can't believe the thickness and luster and they do very little to have all that hair.

I really need to get on the henna/cassia wagon with my fine hair self lol. I've avoided it all these years because it confuses me and seems complicated.

I read somewhere that Jamilla Henna is permanent? Is all henna permanent? I'm gonna have to do a lot of research but I'm sure my hair will benefit from it as soon as I can get a good understanding of it.

This thread made me laugh! :drunk: I use products with silica and it adds a good amount of elasticity to my strands! :yep:

Pokahontas yes all henna is permanent but cassia doesn't deposit a color to dark hair (nice for just strengthening). Most important deep condition afterward because it can act like a protein treatment.

My hair is very strong....it takes a lot to snap it. More force than I would ever be willing to use to style it. But I miss henna....
