I need help guys I kinda did something bad . I have been transitioning for 15 months now but 3 month ago I permed my edges and a little U shape at the top of my head. I was so stupid but I had a really important event and I couldnt deal with the puffy edges anymore. Well now I'm back and I'm stuck should I continue transitioning because I really really hate relaxers or should I throw all my hard work away and just relax the whole thing.

Would you rather deal with these two areas or start all over? I would not want to start over. Post some pics if you can.

I think you should keep transitioning and wait for the other hair to catch up. I relaxed my hair (whole head) 19 months after my last relaxer and 13 months after the BC. BIG MISTAKE!!!!! If you truly want to be natural, you do not want to start over--trust me on that! I am now almost 3 months into a new transition.

Do you truly want to be natural?

What will you do the next time you have an event and don't want to deal with your natural edges?

Think about what you really want to do....then do it!

When you are natural you WHOLE HEAD will be those edges that you were trying to hide. You won't be able to cover it up....unless you wear a wig, etc. How will you feel about walking around with a whole head of your edges?

You have to really think about this. Going natural is really "the thing" right now, and most people tend to think they are going to have 3C curly hair. The reality is, most people are in the 4's.

Really look at your newgrowth. If it doesn't resemble the 3 type hair, then you're more likely a 4 something. Being a 4 something, you might as well get use to those edges...or slap some relaxer on it NOW if your newgrowth bothers you that much.

If you really hate relaxers, why relax?

Keep transitioning and go get it professionally straightened every once and awhile.

I really love my natural hair have no idea what type it is but I love it guess I got bored and wanted something new .. I really don't want to start over but I really don't want to walk around with a crazy fro half straight and whatnot. I'm really disappointed I did that :-( . my hair is in braids right now I wear wigs 98% but I will post a pic I took of my new growth I believe about 1 month ago maybe 2 don't remember

I hear you this is what I fear .... You lost me with the hair type stuff though

Your hair looks to be 3c/4a like mine. I transitioned from texlaxed without ever chopping. I just gradually trimmed the texlaxed hair away and my hair was never shorter than APL. I also understand about feeling like you have accidentally ruined your transition with a relaxer -I even have an LHCF blog post about fearing that I had accidentally overstraightened my hair, called something like "What did I just do???". But my hair continued to be just as curly as ever!

Your hair is curly enough that I think you could scrunch your relaxed parts into your natural texture and the difference would not be noticeable. I see that your ends are straight and that may be harder to deal with than the edges etc that you relaxed. You have a great texture and I think you will be able to ride it out if you want to be natural. Good luck.

stick with it, if it is that you plan on going natural.

and next time u want your edges smooth just use some leave in, gel and a scarf

You have lovely hair. My hair is straighter in the front than it is everywhere else. If the relaxed section isnt too big than you may not even notice. Or you could cut bangs.

Either way dont start over, you have made a ton of progress.

Hey OP!

I.did.EXACTLY. what you did three years ago:lol:

I was getting married, but was sportin' a TWA. The style I wanted for my wedding day hair was a straight style. Closer to the day, I found out the weather was to include rain, which is a big NO for flatironed natural hair. so my stylist and I concocted a plan to wear a weave and what little leave out there was would get a light perm. The style was great for that period of time. Afterwards, lets just say wigs/weaves became my best friend. I was determined to keep the natural and grow out the perm. Eventually the perm grew out.

I say, since you love your natchal', wait it out. Hide it, braid it up, weave it, whatever. It'll grow out eventually.

Is continuing the transition or relaxing your only options? You could always big chop. I think it's important you understand what you want to do and why before you make any other moves. Do you really want to be natural? Do you really want to be relaxed? Do you want something in the middle like texlaxing or heat training or partially permed areas? Why? The why is the most important, because you can go back to that reason when you're wavering between what texture to maintain.

I'll be honest... it'll be interesting to see you maintain the different textures in your hair now that you have relaxed roots and middle parts. I don't imagine it will be easy. Those edges are going to come back, and as a poster said above, if you're not okay with that it might be a good idea to think of a game plan when you want something different. No one here can actually tell you what the best choice is... it's different for every person. But I would say you should really get in touch with what you want for your hair/yourself and adhere to that.

I think I'm more excited that I'm not the only person to do this I thought I had to be the only one out there plus it worked out for you guys which is even more exciting .... On the other hand a few people pointed out that maybe I need to step back and figure out what I really want I'm def gonna take this into consideration as well .
As of this moment I'm going to continue with my transition because I immediately regretted the relaxer it irritated my scalp requires more work not as soft as my new growth and the list goes on and on it was a learning experience for sure . As for the BC ummm I'm also not there yet so at this moment the only thing I know for sure is next time I get antsy gel and a scarf it is. Sorry for the long post but thanks to everyone for the input it really made me feel better and less like a transitioning screw up :-)

You are pretty far in your journey. I think you should start looking at textured styles as an option to blend the relaxed parts.

You can bun your hair. I never understood why folks relax their edges. I do remember a thread on it. You can look it up in the search engine. From your pic, your hair looks gorgeous!:yep:

next time you get the urge to want smooth edges, use some heat. just enough to smooth the hair out, but not make your edges bone straight. or try the scarf method with some gel.

what styles do you plan on wearing to hide the textures?
