Okay, this post is a friendly reminder to always, ALWAYS look at pictures of your hair and note your progress when you feel discouraged. I am going to reply to this message with my own personal story, and why I think it is important to note the progress we make along the way.

My question to you is "How has your hair changed in the last year?"

I joined LHCF last year. My join date says September 2008. I was but a lurker at that point. I doubt I even came here much until around this time of year or some time in November. In December, I paid the $6.50.

My reason for joining was simple. I had BC'ed my hair in March '07, and I still didn't know how to take care of my hair. After finding sites about taking care of natural hair, I found this one that was geared toward growing long hair.

I learned a lot and tried a lot. I mostly used Ayurveda, DC'ing, co-washing, and WNGs this last year, the first two ending around the summer when my interest and supplies ran low.

Now, I am getting to my point soon. This last year, I didn't think my hair was growing at all. In the summer, I even started to feel this whole thing was pointless because it seemed like I was the same place I was the year before.

Well, I few weeks back, I was looking at old pictures, and I realized just how much my hair had grown this past year. I had trimmed about an inch off my hair in late March '09. My hair has grown 4 inches since that day. 4 inches in 7 months is pretty good if I do say so myself!

Last week, I trimmed about a 1/2 inch, and I am now more than confident that I will see that length again before January! I am also confident I can make my goal of APL in front/BSB in back by December 2010. HHG ladies!

Since last year my hair has grown stoped shedding, grown from about SL to close to BSL, and is in better condition.

In the last year my hair has grown from SL and its on its way to APL (unstretched). It is healthier- there is less breakage and shedding and more moisturized.

Since last year my hair has gone from almost BSL relaxed to 1-3 inches of natural hair, and now to past APL natural.

I agree with OP. Whenever I feel discouraged I look at past pictures. I am my best example. Anyway, since last year I have retained some length despite my trims/cuts.

I was a lurker but,

Since last year my hair has grown from right at APL to almost MBL.

I always had dry hair, now it's moist and stronger. LHCF is wonderful!

My hair has grown of course, but I haven't any idea of how much since I haven't had it pressed in ages.

Even if you don't think your hair is growing, it is. Watched pots don't boil! :giggle: In all seriousness, it's condition that matters. Don't stress too much over it because stress isn't a good thing for hair.

Lol, yes, and since hair is growing all day everyday, it is really hard to see the difference. It sneaks up.

Since last year, my hair has been chopped off and is now growing in again. I did the big chop because I wanted the experience and I wanted to know what I would look like; I didn't do it because I got rid of relaxed ends (since I'm already natural). Since last year, I've learned much more about my hair in the months since chopping it than I ever knew before. I now know that I have very fine hair. I now know that protein is my friend. :yep: I know which products and ingredients work best (for example, :nono: to aloe vera; :yep: to marshmallow root and herbal treatments). I am solidifying my product base while adhering to staples. So I would say that it's been a good year for my hair. :)

well, since I know hair is always growing, I was convinced that I was not retaining length! September '08, My length from root to tip was 15 inches in the front and 11-12 in the back, and most of '09 it felt like it wasn't moving from that length. I was trying everything from protective styles, ayurveda, chlorella etc. and it seemed like it there was no difference. :(

It was really frustrating me. So anyway sept @09 I decided to check my length, and to my surprise my hair was 3 inches longer in the front and 3-4 inches longer in the back! :O

It honestly made my year! :D

I think I am one of those ppl that should wear braid extensions for most of the year so I could see the significant growth when I finally take it out, too bad I find them so uncomfortable (I admire women who wear them!). :(

Since last year my hair has gotten alot longer ( ear length to collar bone), thicker and healthier. Oh and since last year I have fallen in love with my hair.

...my hair is healthier, softer, and silkier. It's not longer because I chopped a huge amount off in January, but it's almost where it was lenght-wise, and I am much happier with it than I was then. And, yes, OP, checking your pictures over time is the best way to really appreciate your progress.

I like this thread. It made me stop and look at the positive things going on with my hair. It is much healthier now that I am not destroying it with heat every day. It has gotten longer, but I keep it braided for the LHCF bootcamp so I haven't had a length check since March of this year. And I, too, have fallen in love with my hair. We are fast becoming best friends. :yep:

It has become longer and holds moisture better sice I realised the difference in lye vs. no lye relaxer on my hair.

My hair has:

  • Gone from BSL to above APL. I had to cut some thin ends. If I had known better; I would have babied them and trimmed slowly. This was before LHCF:wallbash:. I would probably be MBL or longer now:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:
  • Grown from above APL to APL, to BSB, and now on my way to BSL.:yay:
  • Gotten a whole lot healthier, stronger, softer. It is just great overall thanks to LHCF :dance7:
