My side-burns are a real no-no with some people, namely women, I get no kick back from men at all about it. I relax them when realx. They grow down like a backwards J. Not beastly at all beacuse the hair is very fine and maybe a 3 something texture. I would compare it to Ashanti's (the singer). I have waxed them, shaved them and had them cut off with clippers, yet hey are back in a snap!

All that to say, whenever the topic of my hair comes up ( as such happened today), my sideburns are talked about as if I have on a skirt with unshaved legs. Hence my pressure to eliminate them. I dont notice them really, but others act as if Im straight wolfing. I notice a most ladies dont have noticeable sideburns

What would you do?

I've given up on trying to control my sideburns. I just let them be free... The last time I got my hair braided the lady actually braided my sideburns too...:ohwell:

Even though my sideburns is a fine texture, they stickout from my face:perplexed

My side burns are very thick. I wax them off to just about mid-ear. They grow all the way down to my jaw. I used to get made fun of when I was little-they used to call me "sideburns":violin:When I get some real length I won't wax them anymore but it just looks better this way that my hair is on the short side.

same here. They grow all the way down my jaw then fades out to the back towards my nape.

Whenever I see my close friend/stylist she ALWAYS ragging on my burnz, if I come in her shop with a fresh doobie, as soon as I walk in the door she turns her clippers on and say "let me get them chops" so embarassing.

:lachen:sorry...

I've got some serious 'burns that grow all the way down my cheek. :yep: I usually leave them alone, but from time to time, I hack them off with my little IGIA shave-y thing. But, they don't bother me too much.

ETA: Sorry about the "shave-y thing"! That's what I call it. It's really called Igia Micro-Trim Groomer (link) It's great if you have a lot of facial hair to get rid of pronto. I use it on my 'stache, chin, and eyebrow touch-ups between waxes... :look:

I HATE mine!:wallbash:

A guy I'm dating told me he liked them. I was like um, okay.......:look:

I just started shaving them. They get worse the longer I stretch.

Yeah I have no probz with the guys, but the females be real mad..?

yep:yep:but I never undestood why some guys like them, because my other guy friend told me he liked my sideburns too or maybe they were trying to game me, i dunno....

yeah males like them more than females do..

but i notice lots of females with sideburns though..

Interesting thread! My sideburns are really long and never really thought about them until people started getting on Ashanti, and it made me think if I should do something about mine.

I realized my side burn hair is a totally different texture from the hair growing out of my scalp, and I've always wondered why. They're like 3-ish and corkscrew curls. Maybe because they are wet two to three times a day when I wash my face.

I love my sideburns they are a 3 in texture and my SO loves it and the fine straight hairs that lay flat on my neck under my nape

The hair on my sideburns goes down to my jawline, too. And I used to use a toothbrush and put them in cute, wiggely designs  But then Ashanti came out and I was thinking ''Are people talking about ME like that?!'' I became pretty self conscious about them, so I just try to brush them back into my hair so they're not so noticable :ohwell:

I have suttle side burns. They use to have a swirl pattern like on the back of my neck but since I had children my hair around my hairline grow in straight. They are very fine and just enough. I don't perm them because it's pointless. My husband like my hair around my hair line. I don't see why you should bother them. I call it baby hair(hehe)

:nono:My daddy says: my side burns ('them ashanti's') are so thick that they're gonna keep growing and connect w/ my kitchen: so i'll have a football helmet: my side burns come down to my jaw.

Yes my burnz connects with my kitchen, like a backwards J.

I don't worry about them. I used to shave, wax, and all that good stuff. I just embrace them now. I notice a lot of guys seem to like them or well don't have problem with them. Girl I just put some gel on them and they get a little curl, and u can't tell me nothing. hahaha

You know I've never really paid much attention to them. Well, but around my town I've seen ladies with chin hairs, so maybe sideburns aren't our main concern right now.

Mine are blonde so no one ever seems to notice until they're about 3 inches from my face...I say bump whoever doesn't like them if you're cool w/your sideburns that's all that matters. Sounds like some folks don't understand the concept of REAL baby hair, not just some edges slicked down w/Pre-con gel and a toothbrush!! Y'all know what I'm talking about...:lachen:

I actually kinda like my side burns...they dont grow out very much and are barely noticeable, but i would love for them to grow out a little more. I think they frame my face and look very pretty.

You rock on, girl!

I have them and as a child I was mad fun of about them too, so I would cut them shave them; I even had a stylist that every chance she had she would edge me up and cut from my nape up my jawline finally I just embraced them because, I noticed that the pressure always came from the women, the men didn't care or liked them besides my dad told me when I was little that they were my angels protecting me so I never really thought there was anything wrong with them. I say do what makes you happy and comfortable with yourself!:yep:

I don't have sideburns, but then again I'm facial hair challenged...I'm thankful for the little bit of eyebrows that I have. I remember back in the day when I would 'create' sideburns and slick them down with gel:look::lachen:(I used to buy gel by the tub, it was my number one hair product:ohwell:)

People will always find SOMETHING wrong with your appearance, you just can't please everybody. So if you're ok with them, leave em alone.

Do whatever makes you comfortable in your own skin.

I noticed recently I'm starting to get some. :ohwell: And down the neck in the back. I'm gonna get my mama to shave it off if it gets worse.

I used to shave them, and once I started letting them be a lot of people told me how happy they were that I no longer shaved them:look:

Yeah. My neck hair is off the hook. I have to shave it off, otherwise, it creeps down towards my shoulders. :ohwell: :perplexed :nono:

Mine are blonde, too! They don't really stand out, but I think they give off a mean shimmer when the light hits them. And I think they highlight the general fuzziness of the sides of my face. I'm 8 months pregnant, and I wonder, have I become "fuzzier" over the past few months???

Anyhoo, I've been seriously thinking about waxing them.
