*** Setting To Success 2018 Challenge ***

Last night I was lazy after detangling and decided to just roll the twists I washed in around some perm rods.

My hair doesn't look the hottest (I salvaged it with a large twist and hairpins) and I can tell it's ready to tangle. It's not stretched enough.

I'll cowash and use the pink and orange curlformers tonight because it's the quickest thing I can do.

@ElevatedEnergy, how much shrinkage do you get? I'm WHip length and my hair shrinks to just below SL when I do twists on wet or damp hair. Shrinkage is the devil sometimes...

8 Twists usually yield BSL/MBL hair. Shea butter really helps to stretch my hair and keep it elongated. Heavy rollers on the ends also gives the hair weight as well so it doesn't get a chance to shrink as much. Also I stretch my ends with rollers but I don't like the curls that come with it. I almost always stretch them again by bunning after removing the rollers. I don't particularly do this for length but because curly ends lead to knots. Knots equals more snipping. Snipping equals less length retained.

But it does give the ending style more length. I included a picture so you can see a bit of twist definition on the length but it gets straighter towards the ends from being in a bun. Little tweaks like that will help give you a bit more length. (As well as keep knots to a minimum)

I get more length from braids. 4/5 Braids usually yield MBL (wet) or WAIST (a dry rebraid after the initial set)

A traditional roller set gives me the best stretch. It usually yields HIP length (initially) OR TBL hair if I bun to maintain after the initial set.

I hardly ever retwist/rebraid though. Just bun.

@ElevatedEnergy, thanks sis very helpful tips especially the heavier rollers. I typically use gray perm rods but will use pink magnetic rollers next time.

I cut off most of my hair about a month ago, but I can tell it is growing at a good rate. I'll try a rollerset with small rollers or perm rods when the weather cools down a bit.

This was my length check weekend so I did a rollerset on Saturday. Friday night I shampooed with Camile Rose and then used Kerastase Moisture Mask overnight. Saturday I shampooed and deep conditioned with Kerastase Resistance shampoo and mask. I rinsed and saturated my hair with a diluted leave-in and rollerset with pink rollers. I air dried for a while and then sat under the dryer for a while and then air dried some more. My hair was dried nicely without drying out my scalp so I will repeat this in the future. I then took out the rollers and put in bantu knots.

I was too tired to take pictures of my rollerset but I will try to take pictures next time.

In the fall I plan to rollerset more andn then put my hair into flat twist just to change things up.

Kerastase Moisture mask, do you mean Masquintense?

I'm going to do a rollerset this week because I haven't done one in ages. I'll take some pics if it doesn't look too ridiculous.

How do you like the Kerastase Resistance shampoo? Does it feel like a protein shampoo?

I like it. It is very concentrated and gives a good lather. I don't find it to be stripping or cause my hair to shrink up excessively. I have not experienced any of the side affects you get with using protein. However, I do use it only once every 4 to 6 weeks.

So I know that the Pibbs and the LCL both have and upward flow of air. When you guys dry your wash and goes under the dryer what do you do to prevent the crown from sticking up? My niece wants to do both WNG and rollersetting. Not sure what type of dryer would work. Thoughts??

*I might be misunderstanding the question, so if this is not the answer, my mistake.*

You could try a net over the rollerset.

@lushlady Yes, you're right about the rollerset. The net is great for that. However, she said that the crown sticks up when drying the hair loose i.e the wash n go. I'm looking for a solution for that or a dryer that wouldn't suck the air upwards so as not to have that effect. Not sure what dryer ppl are using for this. Would a net over the wash n go flatten it?

I just purchased 12 of the white tension rollers and a set a pins. I currently use the pink and blue. Super proud. My rollerset held up through my workout. I added sabino moisture block and I think that really helped. I am going to roll again this weekend but time skip flat ironing since I will need to roll again on Thursday for HU homecoming.

So I just did a flexirod set in 20 minutes-yay! Pretty proud of how fast I’ve gotten. I’m going to sit under my dryer for just a 1/2 hour and then go to bed. I hate sleeping on flexirods but my hair will need a little more dry time.

Any pictures? It's setting season...lol.

I plan on setting this weekend. My hair is short now, so after many youtube videos I'll be attempting a rod set.

I forgot about this thread. I have been roller setting for the past few weeks and my hair has been so soft and bouncy. I think I have figured out what works for my hair.

I've mostly been meh about setting. I'll start off the wash day with a set but because I don't have a dryer, the time under my softhood is just way too long to sit through.

If I do set for the rest of this year it'll be in curlformers because those dry the fastest. But I'll need to work up the urge to actually do the rigmarole. I love the smoothness though.
