SERIOUS tangles a problem or is it me??

Does anyone have SERIOUS tangles or am I doing something wrong?? It didn't use to be this way and now it's an ORDEAL on wash days. What on earth has changed? Yes, I use different products here and there, but what I need to know is, is it the products, me (meaning my method of washing/detangling), or both??

It could be either or just more new growth making the tangles. What products and methods are you using on wash day?

I have A LOT tangles when I have a lot of new growth. Are you washing in the shower? When I am 5 or more weeks post relaxer I HAVE to deep condtion with heat, I use a moistuirizing conditioner with a lot of slip.

I then rinse my hair out and use either my Jilbere shower comb or my Denman brush. I like the Denman more.

Also there are raves about the Tangle Tamer, Im itching to try that out..I notice as my hair gets longer it gets more tangled.

Oh and you also might want to try a detangling solution like Paul Mitchell The Detangler or Biolage Detangling Soultion.

ArmyQT, I've been keeping it really simple these days and feel that my hair is growing a little faster than usual AND my roots are quite thick at 8 weeks post relaxer. I'm only condition washing (these days) about twice a week and then oiling my hair with healthy ends on the ends...that's really about it because I just can't deal with the ORDEAL of detangling anymore. It's very, very grueling...

St. Ives Extra Shine and Suave Awapuhi solved my tangle problems along with Biolage Leave-in Tonic.

I'd also try Biolage Detangling Solution. I've heard a lot about that, too.

I do have the detangler...I might break that out of the closet and see if it works better this time. Like I've stated, I've never really had any problems detangling before, but my new growth is thick. I've been taking my prenatals still (since I'm nursing), protein, b vitamins and iron plus exercising almost daily, so maybe my hair's just going haywire.

Okay I have serious tangles at times too. I was washing correctly in the shower, trying to use the shower comb (even that wouldnt work) and having to resort to semi detangling with my fingers. It was like my whole hair was one big tangle. Thank gooddnes for Razacc leave in, that removed them. But even though I could get rid of the tangles I still felt like they shouldn't even be occuring in the first place. This had happened to me before and finally I remembered what the answer was. For me the missing link was protein. If I am slacking on my protein then NOTHING including previous staples will work on me. So I did a DRC treatment yesterday and my tangles are cut in half. I bought some keraphix to build up my hair with in between treatments and expect to see a continual improvment like before. For me it seems like it has to be Keratin protein.

ETA: Oh I see from your other posts that your problem is different from mine. So this probably won't be useful for you.

Leshia, I'd a suggest a super moisture conditioning conditioner to really lay the hair down while it's wet. I really like Kenra and Elucence for this. I always shampoo in the shower and when Im rinsing the conditioner out, I use the Jilbere shower comb to help the detangling process. Once I'm done, I squeeze dry my hair and then add a very detangling leave-in and sometimes a serum. Serums are very good at smoothing the hair shaft and increasing the hair's combability. IOnce I apply that, I use my super rake detangler to comb through and my denman brush to smooth it into a ponytail. hth

Ditto on the Leave In Tonic.

I get tangles too, when my hair is dry but since I am experiencing soooo much new growth now I just co wash it and the water helps slip through my tangles, i just try not to mess with my hair too much especially when it is dry.

I used to have this problem, too, but I followed the tips of some of the ladies on this forum and started washing my hair in sections. I usually divide it into 4 - 6 sections, twist each one and place a ponytail holder on it before I start. Then I wash section by section and after the wash REALLY SLATHER ON THE CONDITIONER. I comb it out with the conditioner in, and if I'm encountering too many tangles, I put more conditioner on. This has helped tremendously!!

I have this problem when my hair is growing. I agree with Pressncurl...slather on the conditioner and work in sections. Also, most importantly, TAKE YOUR TIME. I easily get frustrated with my hair when this happens, but have learned to be a little more patient. The tangles will eventually detangle...with the right products.

I am 10 weeks post touchup right now and i just shampooed my hair tonight. my main thing with alot of newgrowth is to just use what works. To me this far past touchup is not the time to try out new products. Save that for right after touching up when your hair may be a little more forgiving of a product that doesnt work for you. At this point i like to stick with my CON and that's it--i dont use a separate conditioner, this just works for me. At this point it's just about keeping my hair clean.

Also, whenever i shampoo i always plan on taking at least 20 minutes. I mean let's face it, no matter how well we detangle, tangles will occur here and there so it's best to give yourself ample time to take care of them how we're supposed to. For instance dont shampoo when you know you have to be somewhere really soon, you'll only get frustrated and start dragging the comb through your hair or something. That's it for me, sticking to products that i know my hair likes and always giving myself enough time to care for my hair when i shampoo
