September 2016: Hits & Misses

@Saludable84
What about Xtreme Wetline? Would that work?

For my hair? No. My hair takes two days just to set and the amount of buildup I would have in that time would dull my hair :( you wouldn't visibly see the buildup but my hair would look like a sad old man.

I figured flaxseed or going back to the curling soufflé would help. Neither would leave buildup.

Super Duper Hit
OXO Weighted Silicone Drain Cover (aka the bellybutton cover) - stopped practically every hair from going down the drain this past wash day and never came off the drain even under full force running water; I'll never have to pull enough hair to make a weave out of the drain again with that cover :giggle:

Yeah! I'm happy you liked your outie bellybutton cover.

Big ole fast miss: Using CRN aloe whipped butter gel as a styler. My go to is either the entwine twisting styler or the wetline gel but this time, I decided to use the aloe gel. I flat twisted my hair early Monday morning and kept those twist until this morning. As I'm unraveling, the regret started sinking in but I kept on pushing. I stepped outside on this somewhat humid NYC weather, the more frizzy my hair became. Saw my hair in the mirror and instantly made a face. So now I'm at work trying to fix this horrible twist out by doing a small halo twist around my hairline. I just knew I was going to have the bomb twist out:cry3:

For those considering this:
  • I only use mine on wash day
  • As it catches hair, you may find yourself needing to clear it throughout your wash or else your tub will begin to fill a little (I ended up clearing it about three times in one wash)

MISS: SSI oil free gel. My hair looked dusty and dry! I only had curl definition at the root. Messed up my wash day (which leads to my hit)
HIT: Wash day following with my old favorites Mielle Organics DC (lil bit of protein) followed up with an all time HG Curl Junky Rehab (man this is some good ish!!) Think I may have to pick up a couple of jars of CJ Rehab during Black Friday.

Hit: Heatless pin curls on blow dried hair! I blow dried my hair this week and gave myself my very first trim. I followed the Mo Knows technique from her channel. I used CR aloe whipped butter gel and Chi shine serum. My curls were so pretty and bouncy this morning!

Miss: Walking outside with my pretty bouncy curls in this PA humidity and they all fell by the time I got to work. All I had left was a little bend. So I whipped out my brush and my emergency bobby pins and put it in a bun. It was a big juicy bun but I still wanted to rock my curls! I will try again when the weather changes.

The humidity is pretty bad in NY too. I have a band around my hand that can double as a headband or a hair tie. Bobby pins in my pocket. We gotta stay ready in these streets.

Hit, HIT, HIT!!!

Last night/today's wash day and the ah-mazing smells all night and this morning! My hair feels soft and smells yummy.
  1. I deep conditioned overnight with HairVeda's Sitrinillah Deep Conditioner which I rinsed out with cool water in the morning,
  2. I applied DevaCurl One Condition to my roots (I could see in my shower mirror that definition was needed at the roots),
  3. I applied Bekura's Honey Latte Milk all over and flashed it under the shower water to further distribute it then applied a little more,
  4. I applied Blue Roze Cream Gel (Oh! So wonderful to take a BREAK FROM goopy gel!!!),
  5. I put Sprangz on about 15 hair sections to elongate my hair as it dried, and
  6. I used the diffuser to hurry along the drying (taking the 6-year-old to his cousin's birthday party today and have to get moving).
Miss:
I made so many tweaks to my staple wash-and-go method that I can't pin down the effects of each new product or technique trialed. I tried to pay attention with each application.

Moisturizers & gels that don't mix - SSI Green Tea Oil Free Gel globbed up big time with Bekura Beauty Honey Latte Hair Milk. Thankfully I hadn't started applying it to my hair (always try to check before application) but as soon as those white balls started forming in my palm I knew I had a journey ahead of me. I'll have to start trying that gel out with the rest of my stash to see what plays well with it.
