I have been using henna in my hair( I have been using the Jamila and Duhlan). So my has alot of red in it. My gray hairs are very light with henna(like a reddish-orange). I decided I wanted my hair shiny black again, so I used the Adore(off-black) and the JF clear glaze. After I rinsed and conditioned my hair pretty much still looked the same, gray hair and all. And no shine from the glaze. What did I do wrong? I did not use any heat, maybe this is why it didn't work. Has anyone who has used henna frequently had this problem? I left the rinse in my hair for about 30 min, but the glaze only about 5 min. And I am wondering if the adore that I used was old. I have had it for about 2 years. Please help! Any suggestions???

coulda been old

did you condish before you put the rinse on? if so that's your problem or you're not supposed to using commerical colors after using henna... i think

i'm not sure on that but that's why i didn't get into the whole henna thing because i love rinses

Hi Kim, if you used body art quality henna it is safe to use color rinses the same day of your henna if you wanted to. I think that your rinse was either too old or you just may need to use a different rinse. Personally, I like the Dudley's regal blue and KISS brands better than any others I have tried so far. Also, you should put it on before you condition your hair and alway apply heat for it to adhere better to your hair.

I tried color rinsing without heat before and this was also before I even started henna-ing my hair and it did not come out either even though I left it in for over an hour. Try a different rinse and use heat with the next one and it should work. Also just in case you're wondering, it is safe to apply semi-permanent rinses to your hair weekly if they are free of ammonia and peroxides, okay?

The reason for that is that rinses do not penetrate the hair strands but they simply coat them and most of them only last 6 - 12 shampoos. So if you wash your hair as often as I do, you'd need to reapply the rinse every 2 weeks for sure. HTH.

Thanks Ladies! Next time I will try a different rinse and use heat. I appreciate the help.
