applying a relaxer? Some say this makes it easier to relax all the new growth. It would seem to me that combing would irritate the scalp. What do you think?
I do...I try and make an effort not to scratch my scalp with the comb, though, and do it very gently. It does make it easier to focus on the new growth...I can't imagine myself not combing it first...

I comb my hair before relaxing it just to get rid of the dead hair that is shedding so that it doesn't end up all over the place while the perm is being put in. I don't dig at my scalp with the comb, so my scalp doesn't end up being irritated.

DITTO, it also makes it easier to part when I apply the relaxer by detangling the hair first.
I try to as best as I can. Not always possible once I get to that "Nappy" stage. But, I manage to untangle and get it organized and in about 4-5 pony tails.
