Science proves speaking in tongues is real

Sideny you are beautiful. I love when we have science, history, out sided documentation, etc. to back up what we know is true, which is the salvation though Jesus Christ.

John 14:6

6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Yes, there is one God, one faith, one Baptism ( Ephesians 4:5). Be encouraged lady, you've got the one true God.:yep:

Sidney...I'll go chk it out in a few..but isn't it great when Science does nothing but proves what we already Believe?

Honestly, the thing about scientific literature is one article will supposedly prove one thing and another will be the anithesis. Science can be very biased AT TIMES. What if there was a scientific article disproving speaking in tonguese? Would you believe that source? Or is your mind already made up REGARDLESS of what scientific data proposes?

Whole heartedly agree with this. Kudos that we have scientific evidence, but as far as we believers are concerned it makes no difference - once God says it (i.e the Bible) then that's that.

makes me think of: God said it! I believe it! That settles it! :)

I don't think any of us literally mean "yay now this proves what we believe". We are excited because this is evidence that we can show non-believers. They want science to back-up what we already know is true, so here it is.

OK - I get what you're saying :yep:

I have wanted to bring up this subject before but I didn't want to argue. I don't believe in arguing about the Bible and/or spiritual things. Is there anyone willing to discuss this?

My understanding is that "tongues" are other languages. The Bible says in
Romans 8:26
"Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

The Bible says the Spirit speaks FOR us. The Bible also says that if someone speaks in tongues and there is no interpreter, then the speaker should be silent. Every time I have seen people speaking in tongues there has been no one to interpret or anyone who could interpret what the person said. Sometimes it would be the entire church doing it. This goes against what the scripture says. When I asked about this I was told that the scripture speaks of the "formal" way of speaking in tongues and the church uses the "informal" way.:ohwell:

The Bible also states that God does no have respect of person. So if this gift is available to some, why is it that I have never had it. I hear people say the Lord has actually told them things and in all these years I have never had any of this happen to me. I was baptized at the age of 10 and have been faithful all my life. Sunday school teacher, youth group counselor, all areas of the church so why is it that I have never experienced any of these things? It's not as if I'm a heathen.

If anyone has the patience please reply. If you like we can discuss off board or through PM
Thanks

I have never experienced an interpreter when someone is speaking tongues. I didn't even know that was possible.

I take the gift of speaking tongues like any other talent or gift, some people have it and some people don't. For example, Moses was able to part the Red Sea, if I were to try it nothing would happen. :lachen: I have a natural dancing ability while others don't. Being a Sunday school teacher is really amazing, I can't teach at all.

1 Corithians 14:27,28 (NIV)

If anyone speaks in a tongue, two--or at the most three--should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret.

If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God.

Hey lady, so yes the spirit makes utterance "for" us but that utterance is still made through us. Acts 2:1-4 says And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

began to speak with other tongues

This means they spoke in other languages. I understand what you are saying with "as the Spirit gave them utterance" See Acts 2 verse 11. I just don't see how this is the same as what I see people do today. They are not speaking any particular language or anything that can be interpreted. The Bible states the people spoke in the languages of the people present and they could understand. I work with a guy whose church teaches classes on how to speak in tongues. If it is a gift of the Spirit, then how could a man teach someone how to do it?

Acts 2:11
(both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs-we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!"

Thanks for the link. I am going to read that mini-book tonight.

1 corinthians 14:2.
For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.
Mark 16:17
Jesus says that those who believe in Him will speak in "new" tongues. This means that a new language will be spoken.

Both of these scriptures still mean tongues are a language. Not what I see and hear people doing today. If people claim that what they do now is an actual language somewhere for someone, then why are they speaking if there is no interpreter and no one knows what they are saying. They don't even know what they are saying. To do so is against the word and I am just wondering why this is done? Or if anyone can give me scripture for this. 1 Corinthians 14 says it should not be done.

Do you speak in tongues? If so, what language do you speak and when you speak do you know what you are saying or does anyone else?

Yes, they are a language. But an unknown language, that only God can understand or an interpreter if God has gifted a person to do so. Yes, the person speaking in tongues does not know what they are saying, you are right! But the point is not so the person 'knows' what the holy spirit has said, the point is that the holy spirit has made a prayer to God for the person as they spoke in the unknown language. Isn't that fantastic?! It's like God is praying for you, so you know his prayer will go through because the holy spirit will only pray God's will:yep:. We don't know what is uttered, but according to scripture the holy spirit prays for the things we don't know to ask for. That scripture in I Corinthians discourages praying in tongues in public, but you can do so privately at home so the spirit edifies you.

Sidney I want to thank you for your help. Sometimes people think others are asking things in the wrong spirit or want to challenge them but I really wanted to understand this and I appreciate your willingness to help.

I just came in here to say that Science is not the authority of all things, only God is. We do not need Science to prove anything because what we need to know is already written in the bible.

But I see you ladies have already acknowledged that :)
