Do yall think sleeping in scarfs are more damaging than helpful for hair care in the long run?...I've read some articles that state that it's best to just sleep on satin pillow cases...I usually use one or the other but I do notice at times I may tend to tie my scarf a bit too tight or tie it in the same place everytime...and I have a few thin/thinning areas around my front edges and on the nape of my neck and I'm not sure if the cause is using the scarf too often...what do yall think?

Hmmm. I used solely a satin pillowcase for a year and retained length. I also still use it for naps only. However, I am more anal about my hair now so I would need a whole silk/satin set because I sleep wild. I also "wrap" my blankets all around me when I sleep so I dont think I would go back to it. Also, nothing is better than bringing a hairstyle back to life (ie after sweating it out) by layin it down with a satin scarf:grin:. But if you dont sleep like I do, I think its a good idea, esp. for the nape.

I do both....Last two nights I didn't put my scarf on b/c I was tired... but it wasn't that bad because I have Satin Pillow Cases

Yeah I do both too, lol. When I'm napping I usually dont sleep with scarf, just my satin pillowcases. Also when I'm at my boyfriend's house I take my pillowcases with me, lol. First time he looked at me like I was crazy, but he got used to it. At home, I scarf it but be sure to tie the knot loosely in the front and on my skin not on my edges. Lately though I've just been securing it in the front with 2 double prong clips that stay put :yep:.

I have bonnets too that I use, but lately I've been tie with a scarf because I cross wrap at night.

I thought I was the only one that "didn't leave home without a satin pillowcase" :lachen:

I use a satin bonnet with a draw string mostly. Or use a satinny scarf tied in the back and let the long flap folded in a triangle hang over. If I'm too lazy, tired, lushed, ... I have my satin pillow case to fall back on!!!!:drunk: :drunk:

I voted for both:grin:

I use a satin scarf, but would LOVE a satin pillow case. I'll try to pick one up this weekend... any reccomendations? I hear the ORS pillowcase is good.

I sleep with a silk scarf and on a satin pillow case for at least 15 years now. My edges just started thinning though. I still use the scarf because sometimes I like to sleep with the covers over my head, especially when it's cold.

I use both. Depending on what scarf i've use sometimes my scarf falls off in the middle of the night. It's always good to have that extra protection.

I voted both although I prefer silk scarves and silk pillowcases. Silk is natural and keeps the hair moisturized best. Silk pillowcases keep the skin smooth and soft (regular pillowcases can cause creases on the face). Satin would be my second choice for scarves. I keep satin scarves in my car and purse since I've lost a few silk ones over the years.

I use both. And I usually sleep on satin sheets.

I have a black satin pillowcase that I keep at my mans house. He doesn't like 100% satin because he feels like he slides around in it...but my hair likes to slide around. So we compromise at his place.

Otherwise... satin satin satin. I am trying to find a water resistant zippered duvet cover but all I can find are the ones with the big giant buttons and I'm scared my hair would get caught in the buttons.

I have both, but I prefer the pillow because it seems that when I wake up the scarf is always NO WHERE to be found :spinning:

I wear a satin scarf, satin bonnet & sleep on a satin pillow case! What can I say?!?! I want to make sure that I'm covered because I tend to be a wild sleeper. I may have to ease up on the satin scarf every night, though, because my nape is starting to feel the strain.

I bought a pillow & satin pillow case to keep over at my FH's house. I think he tries to sneak and sleep on it when I'm not there. I betta' not find any drool on my pillowcase! :whip:

Didn't they used to say that scarves were good b/c it keeps the air off of ur hair?

I think we should use both. A satin pillow case would be a good backup in case ur scarf falls off of ur head.

I use a scarf and purchased the silk pillow covering. I have thin edges and am doing temple treatments to grow them back. From reading your post, it probably will help me if I start using the pillow covering instead.

I only wear a scarf - a do-rag, really, as it's the only thing that will stay on my head - and since I pull the sheets over my head when I sleep (and I sleep wild), a pillowcase wouldn't do it for me, and I don't like sleeping under silky stuff.

I was going post a thread about this the other day, because the last month i have been tying up my hair with a satin scarf and the knot is tied at the back of my head...last week i had a ton of shedding. (I was previously using the satin bonnett.) I actually posted a thread regarding the shedding. Then i noticed that at the very back of my head where I had my scarf tied was a bald spot. I took pictures, but I'm at work. I will definitely post the pictures later. Ladies be very careful when tying your scarf too tight. :nono: Now, I tie my scarf very loosely and sleep on a satin pillowcase. :yep:

While I love my scarves, my SO hates them. We have to come up w/some kind of compromise. I"ve tried ninja-scarfing like after he goes to sleep then try to wake up before him and take it off but that doesn't always work out :lachen:I had a satin pillow case a long time ago but don't remember liking it. Maybe I'll try it again. I just don't like doing a lot to my hair in the mornings but me and this man might end up street brawling over my head scarves :ohwell: :lachen:

i read something in an Indian hair forum that said not to sleep w/ anything that covers the hair so the scalp can breathe. iono bout that 1 but my satin scarves and pillowcases make me perspire and they slip off. i want to try a silk pillow case since silk is natural and satin is synthetic. if i had to choose between satin i'd take the scarf b/c the pillowcase is no good for me, i hate mine. i don't find that a scarf damages my hair at all but i can see where it may be a concern.

Both for me. I can't usually make it through the night with my scarf or bonnet still on my head, so having a satin pillowcase too gives me better protection.

I use a satin bonnet....but sometimes I wake up and....its gone! One time I woke up, it was gone, :sad:I looked for like 10min...I never found it! WEIRD!
