Rumor: Does not taking care if your hair and dirt make it grow faster

Funny. I was just thinking about this after watching a few videos of this long haired natural who washes once a month.

I notice some long hair naturals only wash their hair once and wonder how does that work w/ all excess oil and dirt. My sister has a extremely low maintanance reggie which she washes her hair once a month while wearing her weave and her growth is crazy. So I believe there is some truth to the "dirty scalp and growth".....but I'm not going to try that.

I don't think her hair is going to grow or last very long. It looks OK now, but it looks to be thinning at the ends. I do think low manipulation is key. Most of the times I grew my hair out were due to roller sets (no need to use curling iron), pin curling and protective styling. That meant rarely did my hair ever see a flat iron, curling iron, blow dryer or even a comb and brush. Mostly finger combing.

I wash my hair 2x a week. Midweek I do water only and on the week end I'll use a clay mask. I haven't used shampoo in years.

APrayer4Hair I tried using only water and natural sebum for about two months. It was fairly good, but over time I found that I couldn't spread my sebum all the way to the ends of my hair so I added a small amount of coconut oil to my regime. That's what I'm still doing now. You can check out the evolution of my water based regime here:www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=603013

I realized the futility of trying to spread sebum down a curly hair shaft. If your hair is straight, you can use a brush. If it's curly? fuggedaboutit!

Hayle no:nono: I used to do that before i found this forum...it just left me with a greasy, stank nasty scalp and dandruff isshas:nono:

I would never recommend you leave ur scalp dirty...in fact now that i keep my scalp clean it seems to grow faster than before.

Out of pure curiosity :look:
What about a "no product" regimen? Like thoroughly rinsing hair/scalp with h2o and then that's it. Moisturizing throughout the day if needed with only h2o....
Interesting idea... The oily hair should go away after a few weeks of no shampoo tresses wash, just have patience for your oil generation at the roots to slow down. :yep:
