Neglecting hygiene for growth? No. Scalp is skin, skin needs to be cleaned regularly. Hair does need to be protected, but not through means that compromise the health of it.
Unfortunately that doesn't stop many people from ignorantly and automatically thinking that hair that is not frequently manipulated or styled is unclean/unkempt. Hence that retarded stigma that anyone everywhere with dreads/locs of any kind do not clean their hair/scalp.

What about a "no product" regimen? Like thoroughly rinsing hair/scalp with h2o and then that's it. Moisturizing throughout the day if needed with only h2o....

The scalp is actually an extension of the facial skin, so I think if you can do this with your face (and I know some people who can get away with this) then it might work for your scalp as well. Not everyone can though...I know for sure I can't. Not with my face, and not with my scalp.![]()
you can't do this with your face. i have had many clients that think since they don't wear makeup, that they can just clean their face with water. they have so much dead skin build up and clogged pores, it's not funny. you would be amazed at some of the stuff you see under a woods lamp.
