Rollersetting/PinCurl 6 month Challenge 2008'

OT: I hope you don't mind. . . but after goin thru your fotki, i HAD to add you as a friend. my hair is kind of close to your starting length, but yours is WAY healthier and you rollersets look amazing!

Paleaze girl, I need all the siserhood I can get with these naps!....c'mon in.

Just checking in. I'm still game and have been doing pretty good with this challenge. I think since the beginning of the year I've used heat only once :whip: Everything else has been a rollerset and I've even gotten up to 3x/week since I've been working out.

I also must say, I've been using the Snap-on magnetic rollers and setting my hair has definitely been made easier!!! I haven't really gotten use to attaching the roller with the clips so this works great for me. And yes, it comes out smooth! There are 2 types of snap-ons and what I'm using has a smooth roller and a smooth cap. Others have little teeth sticking out of them :nono:

I use these which are smooth (7/8in):

I don't use these with the small teeth - I don't know who would???:

I use the smooth kind also....have tried the pins/clips and can't get them to hold.:nono:

im in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are a 4B Natural and can achieve a smooth roller set and in this challenge...

PLEASE tell me what you do to get your curls smooth and not a frizzy puff.:whyme:

I need some serious help here. Others have said that it cant be done. I just wont take no for an answer.

Thanks in advance..Dlove

i know im late... can i join this challenge? im sitting underneath a dryer right now with rollers in my hair. This airdrying thing isnt working for me and i find that my hair is the healthiest when its rollerset. I'll commit to this challenge cuz it seems cool and i want to get better at it anyway

I am now officially a beast as well when it comes down to rollersetting... after my first set i finally found the secret to how to get those darn pins to secure the magnetic rollers tight. If anyone would like to know I would be more than willing to share. Dont have any pics, my son broke my digital camera so, I have to wait til spring break to show pics.

My regimen:

Rollerset once or twice a week (for cowashes) with magnetic rollers
CON shampoo deep condition w/ 12 en 1 conditioner (for shedding)or other deep conditioner I may have
Pin curl everynight to maintain curls
Use Sedal leave in conditioner or VICL on wet or dry hair
Seal ends on dry hair with kemi oyl

Leave hair swingin on first 2 days, then bun it up :)

BUMPING THIS QUESTION>>>>

Has anyone checked out the Rollersetting support thread? http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=196977

Also, how is everyone doing on this challenge. This is tough isnt it...

I have got the rollersetting down. Yeah! I need a new hair dryer. The soft bonnet and I do not get along. I am definitely going to keep up the roller setting.

The pin curling on the other hand. That is truely a challenge. I like the look of the pin curls, but when do I have time to do it. I so have like a D- on this part of the challenge...I got 4months to go to make this up:nono:.

March is our half-way point. Remember to post where you are on your goal. Happy setting!

Have you checked out Pookie's pincurl tutorial? I always knew how to make pincurls but using Pookie's method has perfected mine. ;)

I rollerset today on blue magnetic rollers.
i added creme of nature leave in to my hair (nice and creamy)
I added paul mitchell super skinny serum to my hair
And ORS wrapping lotion/serum

I saturated my hair and rolled up.

Yup I did see that one. My pincurls never turn out right. I just got the rollerset thing down. Now I am going to get this pin curling.

I will be six weeks post next weeks and my hair has started acting a fool. Trying not to do too much because it started shedding really bad when I rollerset it like two weeks ago. That time I used setting lotion to see if the curls would be tighter. They were not so I am going to go back to just using leave in and leave it alone.

I wanna join! I wanna join!. I hope it's not too late. I am almost 5 years natural with color and this is my second week wearing rollersets. I use the magnetic snap rollers (without those little pricks). I wash on weekends, dc with ORS Replen and then set with lottabody (1 part lottabody, 4 parts distilled water). Then I go under the dryer for about 1 hr (hopefully this will be reduced once I receive my Pibby 514). During the week to maintain the curls, I've been pincurling at night and releasing in the morning.
I forgot how much my hair grows with rollersets and this was a staple style for me when I was relaxed (before I knew about any hairboards)...I was able to grow my relaxed hair to APL doing this regularly weeekly (then I had a color disaster that led to me going natural...but I DIGRESS) and I hope to grow my natural hair to brastrap by the time this challenge is over (this summer)..
I'll be back to post pics of my current set as a way to measure my starting length.

how do you ladies wear your hair after the rollerset? I finally perfected my rollerset, but the problem is my roots. I tried the silkwrap for the second time in a row:nono::nono:

Are you wanting your hair straight?

If so did you try the saran wrap under the dryer method? I think a little heat has to be applied so that all the silk wrap has to do is keep the hair straight while you sleep.

Any suggestions ladies?

You really did a good job gurl....time to make you a tutorial video on You Tube!:yep:

I use rollersetting as a way to dry my hair. I rarely wear the set out especially if im far into my stretch. I normally pincurl the front for a side bang and bun the rest, I do this until next wash day.

Welcome Skyborn09 and SweetCashew !

NOTES TO LADIES!

I am going to make an adjustment to this challenge.

You are allowed 1 FREE week or 5 FREE days per month! (LOW MANIPULATION) Careful with new growth.

I am about 8-weeks post and my new growth is playing tricks on me. One week it will repond well the next week it doesn't and sheds really bad(really bad) after I take the rollers out. I am trying to get to April 5th before TU. I am having no breakage but the manipulation from the rollersetting is

I havent been able to post any pics because I lost the USB for my camera. I know that little sucker is around here somewhere.

Everyone is doing such a fab. job! You all should give yourselves a pat on the back.

Is anyone interested in Curlformers yet.
I have been checking out the thread. I hope that I am APL right now so that I can get some. I am

Ok I'm in. I'll post pics later with the products I use. I want to try the curlformers but I think my hair is too long for those. Guess I'll have to stick to my flexi rods.

I have been checking out the thread. I hope that I am APL right now so that I can get some. I am

Washed with NADIA Jojoba Hemp Conditioning Shampoo
Condition with NADIA Avocado Rinse (for 10 mins)
Applied NADIA Silky Me Leave-In Conditioner

And rollerset with large blue Flexi rods in ponytails.
Flat iron the roots on the lowest setting.

At night I kinda do a french twist in the back and clip the curls on top of my head.

Photos are the day after. I'd spent a good deal of time outside. It's pretty windy here so the curls got blown out.
I'm a little over 7 months into my transition.
Pardon the see-through shirt and bra. I forgot about the camera flash.
