lol....well pincurls usually work best when done to maintain a rollerset so it would be on dry hair. How about rollersetting it to dry and then pincurling it each night to maintain the curls?

Count me in!

I wear my hair straight in the winter months anyway...it will give me an excuse to not use heat. Gonna do the saran wrap treatment today!!!!

Count me in!! I said a few weeks ago I was getting rid of the flat iron anyway. This challenge will keep me on track.

quick question: are touch ups allowed during this challenge?

I'm going to relax this coming weekend. I want my hair to be straight and smooth during this rollersetting challenge.

I can do this. I have been on a heat ( blow drying/flatiron) kick lately but I think that I am going to go back to rollering my hair.

Since my hair hates being comb wet I will add my leave-ins and serums and sit under the dryer instead of blow drying. After drying I will oil my scalp and put flexi rods rollers in and go to bed. I roll my hair every night anyways so that's not a problem. I put a little moisturizer on each section and then roll with flexirods.

Right now I use the red, blue and orange flexirods.

So I think I'm gonna try this challenge. My hairstylist probably won't like me though...LOL. He will get tired of rolling my hair every week.

I've stayed up all night (literally....it's 5 AM) just trying to learn all I can and then decide what challenges I'm going to tackle this year. I have a wedding in April and want really strong (and hopefully longer) hair for it.

I am excited....very, very excited.

I'm in. I guess this is the end to my hairstyle dilemma I wrote about earlier. My hair will be nice and silky and I can do a nice loose up-do whenever I want.

Count me in. I need to rollerset more. I have a soft bonnet dryer I ordered from JCPenneys and am in the market to get a new hard bonnet dryer to practice my rollersetting and for deep conditioning w/heat.

Please add me to the list. I rollerset now - my biggest challenge will be making it for 6 months but Im gonna try!

Learn how you can give your hair a straight, sleek style without drying. It's gentle, easy to do. and very effective.

Blow-drying or using salon type dryers can put a lot of stress on your hair. Excessive use of drying appliances makes hair susceptible to becoming damaged and porous. You can create sleek, straight hair without the harmful effects of heat. Hair can be straightened without drying; this includes even tightly curled hair. There are two options you can choose from, the wet set and the wrap set. These important hair-straightening techniques can be used on any type of hair. Both of these styling options will give you the look you desire without damaging your hair with chemicals or dryers. All it takes is a little patience and a few styling tools.

The wet set is a straightening process that reshapes the natural curl of the hair to the size of jumbo rollers. It is very easy to do and the relaxed straightened effect will last until your next shampoo. Before you begin the process, purchase the largest rollers available. Magnetic plastic rollers are the best kind of rollers for this process. They are usually available in large sizes ranging from 3-4inches. You will also need a wide-toothed comb, rat-tail comb, setting lotion, and clips. These styling tools can be purchased at a beauty supplyor a regular department store.

Begin the process by shampooing and conditioning the hair. Apply the setting lotion to your wet hair. Using the wide-toothed comb divide the hair into three major sections, two side sections and one middle section. Pin each section with a clip. Begin with the middle section. Use the rat-tail comb to divide small pieces of hair and roll each piece onto a roller making sure the hair is setting backwards. If you do not use magnetic rollers or clamps, use clips to hold the rollers in place. Repeat this process for all sections of the hair. Allow the hair to air dry. Test for dryness by removing one roller at the back of the head and checking the hair. Shoulder length hair will take approximately 45 minutes to air dry. The thicker the hair texture, the longer will be the drying time.

Wrap setting the hair will also create a straight look but requires a slightly different technique. You will need two jumbo-sized rollers, a brush, and clips. After shampooing and conditioning, apply setting lotion to the hair. Section off a large portion of hair at the crown of your head. Roll the hair firmly around the two jumbo rollers, stacking one under the other. Secure the rollers in place with clips. Take the remaining wet hair and brush it around your head, smoothing as you go. Fasten with clips. Your head will become one large roller for straightening the hair. Allow the hair to air dry as you do chores at home. If your hair is thick or very long you will need to roll the hair in the opposite direction after about 45 minutes to ensure that the hair underneath dries. Very short hair does not require rollers just brush it gently around your head and secure with clips.

These straightening options require more time than other methods, but you will be rewarded with the knowledge that you have achieved the look you want without using heat. It's also gentle, easy to do, and very effective.

Getting the Look You Really Want Using Rollers

Okay, so maybe you’ve tried using hot rollers to get those sexy curls you spotted on your favorite celebrity and it didn’t turn out like hers. So now you’re wondering where you went wrong? Just like not every hair product will work for everyone’s hair, not every roller will work for every hair type or style. To get the hairstyle you want first determine whether your hair is straight, wavy or curly. Once you know that, you’ll be well on your way to getting the look you really want in a matter of Rollers!

The Straight

If you’ve got straight hair, you’ve probably suffered from the bland strands that won’t hold a curl syndrome more than once in your lifetime. If so, you’re not alone. Whether you crave volume, wave or curls, here’s how to get just that.

For Volume: You will want to invest in large magnetic rollers. Roll the hair in sections at the top of the head, while it is dry and then spritz with hairspray. Next, Blow dry and carefully remove the rollers and finally brush to create the volume you crave.

For Waves: You’ll want to look for medium size hot rollers. First, apply a small amount of mousse to damp hair and then blow dry. Next, Roll sections of hair in the rollers and let cool. Finally, remove the rollers carefully and finger comb only to create beautiful waves.

For Curls: Look for sponge rollers to do the job right. Begin by misting already damp hair with a setting lotion and roll sections of hair in a spiral formation. Make sure that you roll hair up and down, not sideways. Allow hair to dry naturally or if you must, blow dry using a diffuser only. Once hair is dry, unroll and fluff the curls using your fingers only.

The Wave
If you’re blessed or not so blessed with wavy hair, sometimes its just time for a change. Maybe you’d like to have sleek and straight hair or sexy curls, or maybe you’d just like to be frizz-free. Here’s how:

For Straightness: You’ll need Velcro rollers to get the job done. First, apply a smoothing serum to already damp hair and blow dry straight using a paddle brush. Next, roll hair into sections and blow-dry each individual roller. Allow rollers to cool and then carefully remove. Finally, smooth hair using a paddle brush.

For Frizz-Free: Look for medium Velcro rollers that have a metal core. Wrap sections of hair in the rollers and blow-dry to warm up rollers. Once the rollers are cool remove carefully, spritz hair with a shine spray and style using fingers only.

For Curls: You’ll want to look for small plastic rollers. Starting with damp hair, rub a small amount of styling gel into hair and then roll hair into sections. Allow the hair to naturally dry or if you don’t have the time, blow-dry hair using a diffuser. Once hair is dry, remove the rollers carefully and styling using your fingers only.

The Curls

If you have curly hair then you probably already know how much of a hassle those curls can actually be. Whether you just want hassle free curls, waves or a whole new look altogether, here’s how:

For Straightness: You will want to invest in a set of extra big Velcro rollers. Start by applying a straightening lotion to damp hair and blow-dry. Next, roll sections of hair and blow dry on high heat at the lowest speed to prevent frizzy hair. Once hair has cooled, remove the rollers carefully and brush smooth.

For Waves: Choose large velvet covered hot rollers. Blow-dry hair straight and roll hair into sections. Allow the rollers to cool and then unroll carefully. Finally, run your fingers through your hair to style.

For Curls: Choose small sponge rollers to achieve hassle free sexy curls. Begin by spritzing a styling gel on damp hair. Next, roll hair into sections and allow to dry naturally or if you must, blow-dry using a diffuser. Once hair is dry, remove rollers carefully and style using your fingers only.

Finally, keep in mind that the smaller the rollers, the more curls you will get. The larger the roller, less curl, but more volume! Have Fun and remember practice makes perfect!

Add me too, although this challenge won't be hard at all for me since I don't use direct heat anyway (I only allow my stylist to flat iron every 8 - 15 weeks at TU time). In fact, I am sitting under my soft bonnet dryer right now with a head full of rollers. I will try to post pics tomorrow. They will be my starting pics.

I am new to LHCF and loving it! Please include me in this challenge. I will post my pics later. I am psyched !!:newbie:

Sorry y'all but I'm going to have drop out of this one. I just bought some wigs/instant weaves and I'm in love! So I joined the wig challenge and will be wiggin' it up in '08. My hair will remain braided so no roller setting on a regular basis for me:nono:.

Girl, just do you.

You better be posting some pictures....

My beginning roller set pics are in. I like a tight set, so these magnetic rollers are perfect. They're snap on, so even I can use them.:lachen: I'll be doing a wet set and then dry setting the rest of the week.

Looks like you did a really good job. Exactly how long did that take. Those rollers look really straight. I know I am going to be like an hour. I plan to do my first one tomorrow night.

It only took me 30 minutes to set it. Drying is another thing.:lachen: My impatience costs me the first time. I won't let it get me again. These rollers are magnetic and snap on. It's very easy for me to do.
