Roller Set

Everything is Energy
So I did a roller set like a couple of hours ago.
Trouble is all the setting lotion is flaking up in my hair...
I am so mad..
I think I am just going to wash it now and twist it up.

Does anyone use something different that will not make curls hard and crispy?

I prefer to use just water and serum. It leaves you hair soft and bouncy verse being stiff. In the past I likes Chi Silk Fusions, but I've recently started using Fantsctic IC Olive Oil serum and prefer that.

I was having the same problem with Motions Foam. So last time, I roller set with Hair Mayonnaise Leave-In. I got under the dryer and it came out really silky.

I rollerset with a dime size amount of each: Diluted Razac Leave-In Conditioner, Amla Lite Oil and Chi Silk Infusion or Frizz Buster Serum.

I bought the Macherieamour Rollerset DVD (I love it) Anywho this is her rollerset routine posted on her Healthy Textures website:

Rollersetting

I rinse out the conditioner thoroughly and gently squeeze the water out of my hair. I immediately cover my wet hair with shower cap. I DO NOT towel dry. While wet, I apply Keracare Leave-In Conditoner and then Silken Seal. I set my hair with plain water, focusing on saturating the hair from root to tip. This take about 5-7 sprays per section. The hair should lay very sleek and set on the roller.

Estimated Time = Setting (45 mins), Drying under a hood dryer (1 hour 15 mins)

A quarter size amount of Kids Organic shea butter lotion. Very diluted Lottabody in spray bottle= gives me salon results!

I only rollerset once, but the one time I did I used diluted Lottabody (1 part lottabody to 2 parts distilled water).

I wasn't going to use any setting lotion at all, but I read somewhere that it helps to hold the curl in its "stretched out shape" on the roller. I'm natural so I figured I might need the setting lotion to do that...next time I might dilute it even more...it turned out fine by I'm gonna experiment with less of it and see what happens.

Your hair is gorgeous by the way :yep:

There is also a Lotta Body cream wrap that comes in a jar vs.bottle. It's sorta hard to find, but it makes the hair bouncy, shiny and not hard.

so do you guys rollerset after wash/conditioner, dry hair? Do it matter and what gets the best results?

Yes. Wash/CO or just conditioner wash your hair first. I have done the dry method on my hair before, but that is just with a little mousse and rollers under the dryer for 15-20 minutes. I usually do that if my hair is straight and I just want a quick style for the night.

I use either jane carter revitalizing leave in or nexxus headres. Sometimes I use moisturizer which comes out nice but heavier and does not swing as much. I've used condition and sculpt from jane carter which came out really nice. just be careful to not to much because it will come out oily.

Girl go get your self some WEN and dilute it just like Charmteese does hers and you will be blown away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, This is my second time using WEN and this time instead of airdrying and flatironing, I rollersate. I am under the dryer now as I am typing this. My rollerset was so easy it was crazy!!! Oh and the spray concoction made it even better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Water and serum/water and castor oil  (hair was really shiny)...

I only use setting lotion if I want to leave my hair in curls.

Giovanni Direct Leave In (applied to the whole head after washing out my conditioner-just a small amount) Giovanni Frizz be Gone Serum applied to each section with water=soft and moisturised, long lasting set. My set lasts for 3 weeks as I pin curl it, bin the setting lotion, it does more harm than good!

Hi!!!
I've been stalking the website and reading it for about a week straight (I got no work done at work during that week). I love the site!!! And I'm realizing that I have not been taking good care of my hair (i never moisturized, deep conditioner umm no)....I dont know how I've managed to keep the hair I do have. lol.

Well allllll that to say....in an effort to stop using so much heat in my hair I decided to roller set my hair. HELPPPPPPP. I dont know exactly what type of hair I have. I can tell you its curly (I have to get pictures together to post). Well, as I was putting in the rollers (I used a solution mix of water, Lotta Body, and Jojoba Oil) I couldnt get the hair tight around the rollers. I KNOW I am going to have to flat iron my roots. How do you curly naturals (dont think I've ever had a perm) roller set your hair? What is this ponytail method?

So I just took the curlers out and my only response is OMG!!! (and thats the bad omg not the good one). i wrapped it then put saran wrap over it to try and salvage it but i'm not hopeful. i guess my hair will be curly again for Thanksgiving. :( Should have just flat ironed it.

If I will be wearing Shirlies or if I am streatching my relaxer, I use Wrap n' Tap as a setting lotion......it holds but is never crispy.

If I am planning to comb my hair out after the set, I usually dilute a little Wen or Giovanni Direct Leave-In with water and spray it on.

I just put some CHI silk infusion and some leave in cond in a spray bottle and spray some on my hair

I use Lottabody Cream for wrapping and setting along with a little serum. I start with dripping wet hair...this helps the hair cling better to the roller.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe you should use larger rollers next time. I use the grey ones mostly and started using one large black one at the crown. I then use like 3 purple ones at the front. As a result, the ends stay curled slightly, but the rest is straight.

Also, do you have NG? If so, perhaps it needs to be flat ironed to lessen the bulk.
