Review: Tropical Avocado Conditioner.....

Well, well, well. After dreaming about finding it last week (some of you know this from my post a few days ago ), and spending months trying to find it to no avail. I got aggressive and found it one day last week after much telephone calls around Manhattan. (I'm bad I know).

So today I did a rollarset. Washed with Lanza, rinsed then slathered Tropical all over concentrating on ends and left it on cold for a good hour with a shower cap on. It felt lovely going on but on rinsing it, I didn't get that noticeable slippery, detangling feeling I look for as sign that I'll have smooth hair when dry. I shrugged somewhat disappointed already and proceeded to do my usual comb through with the wide tooth comb. Still no detangling feeling
ohwell.gif
I started with the rollars and my regular tooth comb and the fine rats tail comb both had to snag a bit through each hair section which I didn't like at all. On smoothing the rollar up the hair section, I noticed the ends felt rough. After the 3rd rollar I bailed out and jumped back into the shower with Loreal Unfrizz Smoothing Treatment (my current fave conditioner). I re wet my hair and put it in for 5 mins. I got the immediate slippery, buttery soft, detangling feeling on the hair and the combs just slipped through with no problem.

So in theory I didn't give the Avocado a fair chance and do a rollarset and dry the hair but I've used conditioners before that did this and when the hair was dried, it came out rougher so I didn't want to wait and see it happen again

, I cannot believe Tropical A. didn't agree with me!!!! So many raves outweighing the odd person who didn't like it that I had to try it and it failed.

Loreal remains the undisputed champion on me. I was really suprised that after leaving it on for just 5 mins was enough to transform what the Tropical did into truly soft, satiny smooth wet hair

I'm glad I tried Tropical A. because now I know I fall into the catergory of one of those that it doesn't work for..... I think my hair's trying to tell me to stop being such a sheep and keep my dumb a** using what I know works best already

I'm really not sure if it was the conditioner that didn't agree with you BRH...And I'm not doubting you. But I've found that deep conditioners NEVER detangle my hair. I always have to use a second lighter conditioner to detangle it. Maybe this is the case when you use this conditioner, it may not mean that it doesn't work for you. Also, I've noticed with my own hair, that when I leave a conditioner on for a long time like that, sometimes it doesn't detangle it.

I'm just pointing out something, but it is your hair, and if you feel it doesn't work, I totally understand. And, I haven't used this particular conditioner either, so there's no bias.

Go figure, I love this conditioner but I mainly use it as a leave in and it helps smooth the hair shaft which defines my curls and keeps tangles away. I love it for those reasons alone.

BRH---girl I feel ya. If I don't get slip when I'm rinsing my hair, it's pretty much over for that conditioner. This is the first test that a conditioner MUST pass in order for me to rave about it.

I wasn't impressed with the Tropical either so I'll proabably find a way to finish up my jar in the summer. Thats' when I will probably use up most of my so-so conditioners.

I am exactly the same way........I use Elucence as my fixer-upper conditioner but s/t that doesn't work and I have to wash my hair with CON all over again in extreme cases.

Girl, I really wanted you to fall in love with this product like I did. I just don't get it...I have only ever left it on long enough to finish showering and it always leaves my hair buttery soft and really detangled. However, I have noticed that when I used it with the Lanza protein plus shampoo, it didn't perform as well as it did with a moisturizing shampoo (elucence and CON). To be honest I really think that's the reason youmay not have gotten the results that I did. Try washing with CON and then using the Tropical. If that works out great for you, then you can use your other conditioner when using the Lanza and use the tropical with a moisturising conditioner. Oh, and it's absolutely great for conditioner washes too

. Please don't give up on the Tropical. I'll be waiting for your follow-up review

Hi Armyqt, I thought of you when I tried it today, remembering your post to me about hoping I'd like it. I'll try your suggestions of using it with CON shampoo (and I'll leave it on for less time) and also again for conditioner washes (I use Elucence for that).

Then we'll see if it really doesn't agree with me. It gets too many raves for me to not try again. And I will, At least I have my 'corrector' conditioner ready for ER treatment if needed

Daviine, all the conditioners that I love give that noticeable detangling smoothness on rinsing out and as a result, give a nice rollarset finish. Its probably why I also like cones alot.

I'll see how it works for conditioner washes since that's a very light conditioning treatment.

I've been dying to try that L'Oreal but don't know when I'll get around to it. I know you also like Motions Moisture Plus but it didn't do anuthing for me.

I was counting up my conditioners (including samples) and I have around 16!!!! I think Ihave 3 or 5 conditioners I still want to try though.

I didn't like the tropical advocado either.. I used this a looong time ago, and it worked well. But i never quite got that feeling back and i've used it in every way possible.

BTW I tried the Unfrizz and i love it!!! It did everything and more, my hair was super moisturized and detangled and it really left my hair frizz free. It allowed me to strech my underprocessed and new growth. I'm absolutely in love!!!! My hair was soo easy to manage afterwards, i'm hooked. It ranks up there w/pantene, I'n soo happy i've been finding winners.

You know, I don't know what is in that Unfrizz that makes it so good but its definitely gives the best results and I mean effortless. Its the BEST. I agree with you in being hooked on it.

BRH i had to try it, your reviews were always stellar. I'm really impressed.. Do you know if they sell the Unfrizz in economy sizes?? I'm going to look for it today in Liquidation (im out in NJ today) I'll post if i see some there.
I give this conditioner 10 of 10.

STOP Beana---I'm really trying hard to use up some of these SAMPLES I have before I try any new conditioners!!!!

well its near the 4 train on 167st going towards the concourse. I believe its on the same block as the mcdonalds or the next one. (those directions sound crazy, i'm sorry) But you can find it on a display case to the right of the cash register.

Yes i have officially enabled PJism!

Can someone post a pic of this stuff. I think I have this, but I'm not sure if it's the one being discussed here. TIA

I checked liquidation and they really have a a horrible selection of products at a more expensive price. They didn't have anything i'm looking for, I wanted tohe new pantene line. I'm trying out target tomorrow, and walmart after that.
