Relaxed colored hair: The pull thru' cap method?

Relaxed colored hair: The pull thru\' cap method?

My g/f had her hair coloured and it was done with a cap on her head with holes and random hair strands were pullled through the cap holes for colouring. It looks great as it has a nice 'blended' in appearance.

Does anyone have experience having this done and if so, what are the cons e.g. maintenance, overall hair health change etc.

Thanks.

Maintenence is tough and damaging because you have to get the roots of just the hair that was color which is tough. The tool used to pull the hair through the cap looks like a latch hook tool and will snap your hair right off.

Other than that the color looks awesome. I had my bleached highlights done like this.

Re: Relaxed colored hair: The pull thru\' cap method?

I bleached mine with the cap, and I loved the results. My hair did not snag on the tool, some are plastic and some are metal, I used plastic. My hair slipped right through the holes. I liked how it grew out, it looked pretty to me, and everyone used to ask me who does my color. I am planning on added some red ones in a few months, it adds a lot of dimension to the hair I think. Just don't over-do-it. I got bleach happy, and my hair did become a lot weaker, but my hair is in remission now!

That is how I had my highlights done. It didn't damage my hair at all, and I loved the results. I am getting them redone in May.
I am kinda of scared of this retouch, Do they just apply the color to the newgrowth?

Re: Relaxed colored hair: The pull thru\' cap method?

Thanks girls. I watched my g/f having hers done and the hair wasn't getting caught in the hooks and she really likes this stylist. For example, after the colour was done, my friend felt it was a tad too light for her so she went back and the stylist toned it down a little which I though was really nice.

Its got me thinking....maybe I'll chat with my stylist and see what she thinks too....

I had mine done this way a few times (in the past) too. The first time you do it, it's great. The only problem is that when it needs to be redone, there's no way of preventing pulling some of the hair that was already bleached the last time through some of the holes!!

That's where it becomes very damaging. Bleach once is bad enough... bleach over bleach is a sure recipe for disaster...

You spelled colour like a Canadian (well British actually)!

Re: Relaxed colored hair: The pull thru\' cap method?

I always have my highlights done this way and I haven't had any problems. Even with foil highlights, you run the risk of having some the previously colored hair colored again. But I don't use a color with bleach in it, I use Deep Brilliance colors (or rather my stylist does).

Shinyblackhair, I am British so occasionally you'll notice the different spelling coming through

Its a good thing board communicating is silent or you'd hear my accent which I forget ppl don't realize until meeting e.g LHCF NY meet ups.

I'll ask my stylist about non-bleaching colour products and their ingredients....

Ah, okay that makes sense now! I didn't realize that you were British, that is so cool. I have a lot of family in London. What age were you when you came to the States?

She had it done in this small but really cute looking salon thats on like 31st and 7th ave. You know the new H&M store on the corner on 34th street? close to Old Navy? well turn the corner there and walk south down that avenue (I think its 7th or is that 6th?). You'll cross 2 streets as you walk south and its there on the left side. Its very small so easy to miss, its close to a little cafe, like 3 doors away.

The lady who did her hair was very good I thought. I watched everything. My g/f originally went there on a previous visit for a cut (which was really nice I thought) and being she was pleased with that, she decided to return and let her put colour in.

If you need more info, PM me.
