Okay,
I'll do my best to give you the short and sweet version. I have been natural for almost two years and began my journey due to my dd having relaxer issues. After 7 months into her transition, and various reasons along with her request, we went back to relaxers. Her texture is so different from my own, I don't know where to begin in getting her on a healthy hair regimen.

She has different textures with the back and nape being more coarse and last year suffered more damage due to trial and error of finding a daily moisturizer. Her hair is doing better with a lye relaxer, but I need to get a solid regimen to really help her hair to thrive and grow this year. Last summer was the beginning of a lot of changes and I'll admit her hair was neglected for some time, but I'm trying to get back on track.

She seems to do better with a "grease" base, but I still haven't found "the perfect moisturizer" for her hair. I love Design and Keracare shampoo and conditioners for her hair, but really need a good moisturizer, deep conditioning concoction or agent, leave-in and protein treatment. Her hair also does well with coconut oil as a sealant. So I completed part of the battle, but need the missing pieces/links of the other.

Please help.

Glad you started this post KarmelDiva1978, because I am in dire need of a great moisturizer as well. I have tried numerous moisturizers, and I have yet to find one that will work on my relaxed 4b/c hair.:hammer: As a result, my hair looks a HAM!

All of you wonderful hair experts, please help solve this problem. :brainy:

Bee Mine Luscious balanced cream moisturizer

Avocado butter (followed by sealing with an oil)

Also, have you tried the overnight moisturizing treatment from Keracare? It really works wonders for my hair.

Never really found a good moisturizer in tons of dollars and two years. Ever tried filling a spray bottle with a little bit of conditioner and water? I put about a quarter size of Trader joes nourish spa and fill the 8oz bottle with water, best moisturizing for when my hair is not straight

I agree with this. The best moisturizer I used was Suave or VO5 conditioner mixed with water. :yep:

Mizani H2O night treatment is one of the best moisturisers I have used! A little goes a long way.
I also recently discovered Profective Mega Growth Anti Breakage Growth Lotion, its light but moisturising and smells good! Its also cheap which is a bonus.

Hi, I'm not an expert, but I looooovvvvvveeee moisturizers from Bee Mine for my relaxed hair! I def. recommend Bee Mine Deja's Hair Milk, Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Creme moisturizer (this one has protein in it), and/or Bee Mine Lovely Hair/Scalp moisturizer (I use this to moisturize roller sets, bantu knot outs when I don't want to use a product w/water in it to revert my curls). A little goes a long way. In addition, all of these smell so yummy :lick:

Oh, I have 4A fine, relaxed hair.

I am picky about smell and texture so I was delighted when I found SheaMoisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk. It's the first moisturizer where I actually used entire bottles of it, it is awesome as both a daily moisturizer and a leave-in, the price is reasonable and it is easily accessible: Target & Walgreens carry it.

I also have different hair textures but fine dense hair. I have learnt a lot through trial and error. And what made the biggest difference is the way I chose to wear my hair. For example, when I was natural because my hair was different textures as it grew longer I would get tangles, SSKs and snap offs very quickly even though I was diligent about my daily moisturisers, washing my hair and using no heat for two years.

In hindsight, I learnt that I should have either forced my hair into a uniform hair texture through the tension blow dry method and kept it in a bun/braids or if I wanted to not use heat I should have just braided it in big braids (to let it air dry) then unloosen when dried and braided it up again (in a nice hairstyle without extensions) and kept it braided up until wash day. My mother told me that my hair natural texture didn't thrive when it was worn out too much or air dried twisted (which caused more tangles). She told me that her mother and grandmother never wore their natural hair out or twisted it. Hair was air dried in big braids and then when dried put into big plaits with shea and swept into a bun and only taken down during wash day. However, my mother added if I didn't care about hair retention in a natural state I should be vigilant about trimming and not allowing my hair to grow longer than at least a few inches to prevent grappling with the different textures and the snap off effect. My mother also noted that my hair texture looked much neater when kept very short, straightened and worn up and if worn out only for a special occasion, or with braids (with or without extensions) (but not kept in for too long because of my 3c areas that always fly up at the slightest sweat, humidity or water which always made my hair look very sloppy no matter how well I brushed it.

Now that I am relaxed. I use the tension method to ensure a uniform texture and also now that my hair is relaxed it is more fragile when wet, so wet sets are a big no no for me. I get my hair blown straight and then put it in a bun (not tight) and alternate my bun styles.

I guess the point is that yes moisturising helps, but the way your choose to wear your hair daily also contributes.

Best,
Almond Eyes

Here is my regimen, hope this helps!

Shampoo 1x a week (currently using Shea Moisture Retention Shampoo)
DC at least 1x a week (ORS Replenishing Conditioner)
Cowash whenever (TreSemme Naturals Moisturizing Conditioner)
M&S at least 1x a day (mist & massage a section of hair w/water in spray bottle, then massage in combo of NTM leave in and fractionated coconut oil)
PS 90% of the time
Air dry all the time

I also stretch my relaxers, my longest (and one of my most successful) stretches lasting 18 weeks.

The best moisturizer I've ever used is Neutrogena Triple Moisture Leave In. No other moisturizer makes my hair feel soft without weighing it down. Sealing with coconut oil boosts its moisturizing effects dramatically! Again, I hope that helps, and I wish you and your dd the best!

if it helps, I'm relaxed 4b and even though I just started my journey, I recently bought some Hawaiian Silky 14 in 1. I know it has mineral oil in it, but after just using it for a week I can see a big difference in breakage. I've gone from having too many broken hairs to count every time I brushed my hair to only maybe 4-5 pieces. *shrug* but I know a lot of these wonderful ladies on this forum will be willing to help u!
