*sigh*

I just had a major setback at the salon. I asked for a trim and I feel like she balded me! I'm no longer shoulder length. Im just under ear length. I want to cry! All of my progress is gone! It's definately time for me to find a new salon. *wipes tears*

That is why when I get any significant "length" so to speak, I will be going to Saturday's, SuperCuts, MasterCuts or whatever those places are called.:look:

To Completely Ensure that I AM IN THE Drivers Seat, Of What and How Much. And that I get Exactly what I Asked For.

Thats why I don't go to salons no more, ALOT of the female beauticians are jealous anyway, when they see a black woman with hair SL and longer. Thats why I would pick a male beautician any day. I don't go to salons no more, unless a male is doing my hair.

Don't grab a gay one, then. They're just as catty and jealous as the females. I'd rather get a barber to do a trim for me.

LOL:lachen: you a trip

I let this guy I know do my hair somtimes like sew ins, he in beauty school now, he is so good and take pride in what he do. I had gay guys do my hair too, never had a problem, they so gentle, and take so much pride in their work. They look at hair as beautiful art.

I don't think its fair to say that all female beauticians are jealous and wanna bald you. I've been going to this perfect high end black owned salon for years their warm professional friendly and they never overstep their boundaries when I ask for a trim, they know I mean TRIM and their always sure to hold up the peices of hair in front of me in the mirror to make sure I'm okay with the amount their taking off and its always a conservative trim. I've gone to them rarely since going natural but I still go to them like once a year for trims.

My cousin goes to a salon thats over the top exclusive and high end a gay guy has been styling her hair and you've never seen someone's hair look so flawless, he treats her hair like a fine silk and bases her scalp with shea butter for relaxers , her hair has really been growing with him and he knows how to do cuts that look straight out of a magazine. But she relies on him too much and spends too much $$ getting her hair done @ salons. Now he's moving away and she's hunting for another stylist.

I say become your own best stylist, you'll save money, you wont have to pay every time you want a DC a wash or a style and your hair will grow like you wouldn't believe.

There's a quote that I had as my laptop background for a long time that applies: "Never stand begging for that which you have the power to get on your own"

I would leave ASAP. They have a tendency to be very disrespectful towards African-American women because they think they are better than us. That leads to resentment that they have to do our hair- thus follows the attitude - like how dare you speak to them. I cant be bothered. Dont spend your money where you are not respected. I bet if more of us would not tolerate their attiude the attitude would change.
I remember going to one once, it was my first time at their shop. The girl was so nasty. I asked her what type of leave in she was using. She said "It's leave in" - real nasty. I said to her, "Yo se, pero cual tipo" which means I know, but what type.
Honey! She did the quickest turn around as if Jesus had walked through the door! All of a sudden I was "worthy" of a pleasant attitude! Come on now! I.cant.

would you mind sharing the name of the salon you go to? thanks.

^^^I'll PM you it but just to be clear all my hair progress is a result of me doing my own hair not them. I go to them only for trims and they are NOT cheap. I'll start goin to them on the regular once I hit the jackpot:lachen:

:sad::sad::sad:

I will start going to Dominican Essence hair salon in Brooklyn for my next touch-up which should be sometime in late Oct to Nov. I called the salon and even on the phone the lady sounded polite. So I'm hoping this is the new salon I will start going to permanently

I agree with all of this.

The only two stylists I will allow anywhere near my hair are both black females. My hair was at it's longest when I was going to one. And when I ask the other for a trim that's EXACTLY what I get because she likes long hair on her clients.

I do my own hair now because when I was unemployed I couldn't afford to go to the Salon. Now that I am employed again, that salon money is going into a savings account because this economy is jacked.

I know that's right! This type of thing comes from a long history of denial if you feel me. But you know many AA shops are a trip too. Once I stop getting my hair braided I'm not sure where to go. I'm really in a bad location.

I had the same experience with the dominicans. I would hardly let them use heat. And the way they relax the hair is horrible!! They overlap like crazy and sometimes they apply it on the scalp. They would always get on me about getting a perm but I stopped letting them perm it because one time the shampoo girl didnt wash out the perm properly and my hair broke off down to the ng.

Have any of you ladies ever had a domican blowout, I always wanted one? I'm in challenges this year, so no direct heat for me right now, but thats something I want after the Bootcamp challenge to treat myself.

Do yourself a favor... if you decide to go for a Dominican blowout, get them to rollerset your hair and then blowout the roots only. Your hair will thank you for it.

Thank you sweetie, I will make sure I get them to rollerset it first then the blowout.

I seen some videos on youtube on blowouts.

You'd think stylists (well the owners) would be happy to see customers leaving their salon with long healthy hair, rather than hacking off inches. There isn't any better endorsement than that!
