Ok do we have swimmers? I’m taking swim lesson tomorrow and wanted to see if there’s anything special to put on my hair. It’s suppose to be a saltwater pool vs chlorine.

@faithVA am I remembering correctly that you are a swimmer? What measures do you take to protect your hair. The last time took my nieces swimming I was wearing a head wrap . Not very convenient or protective lol.

I’d coat my hair in conditioner to saturate it in a moisturising liquid and top with butter or grease, to prevent the hair from taking on too much water, and letting the salt water dry it out. I didn’t do that the last time I was at the beach either, but with proper planning I would.

No it isn't me that is a swimmer. A few years back I trained for a triathalon which is probably the last time I did swim. Besides doing what you said to put conditioner and/or oil on I'm not aware of anything to help protect the hair. I usually just rinsed, shampooed and conditioned while at the gym if I could and then rinsed later.

I think if you aren't going that often, I would just take some basic care and shampoo and condition as soon afterwards as you can. I think it is long term swimming that can cause the issue.

I've been to float zones where you float in salt water. There is no cap for that. I 've done that few times. I didn't notice anything detrimental to my hair. I did try to shampoo and at least apply conditioner afterwards. Once I just tried to rinse and go and when I went to pick up my food I had so much salt in my hair and face as it dried it was crazy  So I never did that again.

My hair doesn't absorb water easily though so the salt water could have been slightly beneficial for my hair.

@faithVA I adore both of you so much. I have a swim cap and our lesson is only 30 but it would be weekly. I will put some oil in before I go and rinse after. This is going to make me be a weekly washer.

Anyone have any recs for a moisturizing shampoo? I've been using the Design Essentials Almond and Avocado one for months now but it's about to run out. Do people still like the Cecred shampoo?

I am trying the Cecred moisturizing shampoo. I wouldn't really recommend it based on the price and performance. It's not bad but it's not a must have.

I'm not a fan of the clarifying shampoo either.

I have a bottle of the cecred moisturizing shampoo that I haven’t opened yet. But based on the hydrating conditioner I don’t have high expectations. I wish I had gotten trial sizes instead of full bottles.

Is the shampoo at least really gentle?

I'm a little skeptical about it being characterized as gentle. My ends felt a little crunchy when I used it with the clarifying shampoo. That was AFTER a hot oil treatment, so, I'm not exactly hopeful that this product is as hydrating as they claim.

I, too, wish I'd bought trial sizes.

I wanna try the DE Honey Creme shampoo but I'm still working my way through this bottle of DE almond and avocado....

Hopefully I'll finish the bottle before june...

wearing this silk press made me realize how much I missed wearing my natural hair. Looking forward to the salon on Tuesday.
I have already booked my next 2 feb appointments, will be switching to Saturdays soon.

The shampoo is really moisturizing for me without adding unnecessary gunk and I am super picky about shampoos.

The clarifying is not my favourite, I prefer to use ouai’s detox shampoo.

My scalp is sensitive, dry with occasional sebopsoriasis flare ups.

I hated the honey crème shampoo. Most shampoos tangle my hair. I like Redken shampoos especially the extreme length one. Now I mainly use cleansing conditioners and clarify 1x a month
