Random Hair Thoughts/Thinking out loud

I just spend two days, including all day yesterday pulling out these mini braids. Please remind me to never put in mini braids again, especially I’m taking them down on my own.
:lachen: I feel your pain!!!

My trick is that I RARELY EVER just take them down anymore. I almost always convert them into something else. I clarify and then DC in them one last time and then start converting them into cornrows, plaits or twists in bigger sections.

Yeah I rather cut off my arm than do that again for at least another year. I would love to outsource it but I hate expensive salon prices.

I detangled and converted them to some twists and they don't look too bad so I'm gonna rock it for a week and then do wash day.

I do that to myself all the time. Matter fact, I made a post on here saying what you said lol Then I just put them back in because they're so convenient for me

I think my ends are stained from rinsing my hair. I would do dark brown or red. I notice that my roots and mid length take color, but the last few inches just refuse to lift.

My hair has gotten finer with age and I love it. I couldn’t handle that thick coarse mess in my 40s.

I ordered a copper clenditioner from Amazon. It’s a color depositing cleansing conditioner. I can request a refund cuz it’s a few days late. I still want my product though.

I wish I could wash in cornrows as my hair always mats up. Depression and self care fight like pit bulls.

Extra hugs for you! :sneakyhug: This season change hits extra hard too.

Could you go to a beauty school for your wash, DC and cornrows? That way it isn't on you to have to do it. Maybe do it monthly to start.
Heck maybe even find a "cousin" to wash and DC for you for $20 or something. lol
I always think back to Domin (RIP) from BHM and how she stayed braided up and only washed monthly. Her hair thrived w such a simple regi.

ETA: Oh, have you tried cowashing or water rinsing instead of washing in them? The extra conditioner should help keep tangles at bay as long as it's a moisturizing condish!

I hadn’t thought of going to someone as I know I’m going to need to chop a lot off. I thought of you today as I took my braids down and made them smaller. I’m going to rinse my hair this weekend but as I ramp up for the gym I know I’m going to need to cleanse.

One of my favorite hair tips I learned was when I was studying the weave ladies (bc those ladies were GROWING some hair!!) and most of them put diluted poo (poo + water) into a color applicator bottle and washed like that every other week while in their weaves. They could apply poo directly to their scalp and they could run their fingers down their parts to cleanse without manipulating the braids too much. That helped to cut down on tangles when they took their braids down MONTHS later! Have you tried that method yet? I think even a diluted poo would be helpful when you're working out.

After learning that, I swear by using a squirt bottle or color applicator tops to apply my cleanser in the shower bc that has been my experience as well. Also, my diluted cleanser is poo + water + condish and I use that 80% of the time when I cleanse my hair. Then I slather a cheapie condish on my braids as a leave in and then go on about my shower. I think that helps to cut down on my hair tangling and sticking together both with natural and texlaxed hair. HTH! :) ((BIG HUG))

This helps wonderfully as I def need to be realistic my life isn’t built for 50-11 steps anymore, getting older comes at you fast.

I want to share something with y'all that I haven't told my family yet. I probably won't tell them unless I have to. A random lady suggested I get my thyroid checked out. I got an ultrasound and there are two nodules that I have to get a biopsy on to make sure they aren't cancerous.

In other news, I think I really need to do a hard protein treatment, but it could just be that since I had my braids in for whatever amount of time and this is the shed hair. Life soo much easier with them in, and I really enjoy my hair then. My favorite part is taking my braids down to see how much length I've retained :lachen: Probably need to get a trim because I think it's been a year or two since I got one. My second favorite time is when I've finished installing the last braid  Arms be too through lol.

@ItsMeLilLucky

Oh man, hoping you get good news from your biopsy! ((BIG HUG))

I'm so glad someone else feels me on the minibraids. I swear they are responsible for me keeping hair on my head during this hair lazy DECADE I've been having. And yeah, the surprise length that is only visible when you take them down is such a high! I'm finding the same w cornrows this year too. It's a nice way to have hair but not have to deal with it all of the time.

@MzSwift Aww thanks Swifty  I'm at peace with whatever the outcome is.

As for the mini braids *sings* If it had not been for mini braids on my siiiide :lachen:

Quite honestly, I'm there with you on the lazy hair decade. That's probably what my hair needed. I should have given up earlier
My hair would probably be down to the floor lol

Happy Birthday @ItsMeLilLucky !! I hope you have a wonderful birthday weekend!!
