What supplements are safe to use when you are pregnant? I’m hooked on MSM and I’m just wondering if I should quit since I’m trying to have a baby.:babyb:

I stopped taking MSM due to pregnancy and took only prenatal vitamins. I would suggest not taking any supplements when u get pregnant. I think they should be ok though if u take them b4 u conceive but i'm not sure. There may be a couple of threads about it if u search.

To be safe, I would quit EVERYTHING except ure prenatals and maybe a multi-vitamins. Basically, i would consult with my OB/GYN and do whatever he/she tells me too. :)

I'm in a pre-conception state right now, and this is what I take. I'm not a doctor nor a midwife (yet), and I've researched each of these, and possible side effects, and I'm comfy with taking them - doesn't mean that you should be!
If you want to talk to your doc about it, that's all good, but be aware that if they aren't a ND, they most likely know jack all about how supplements interact with each other, much less how they might affect you preconception/pregnancy, and are most likely to tell you to stop everything. I prefer to know the WHY of things, so while I'll mention to my doc what I'm taking, I do the research on it myself.....

I was initially taking MSM, biotin, and Omega 3/6/9, all for my hair, and a multivitamin for myself. Then - this is what I've switched to taking.

I stopped taking MSM because it acts as a blood thinner, and I want to be sure that my uterine lining is in tip-top shape.

I started taking a B-Complex vitamin along WITH my biotin - B complex helps stabilize your luteal phase, and you can't OD on Vit B, as you pee any extra out.

I'm taking Evening Primrose Oil from period to ovulation - there IS a risk of uterine contractions with EPO therefore it's NOT safe to take if there is even a CHANCE that you are pregnant. I take Omega 3/6/9 from O til the end of my cycle, so that I can still get in my EFA's.

*thinks* What else am I taking?

I'm taking Vitex - but that's for conception, not for hair. :lachen:

And I still take my daily multivitamin.

That's about it.

I've added topical treatments instead - I use Lenzi's Request right now, and I'm going to start using MTG once I run out of LR.

Good Luck!!!!! *plenty of babydust*

Check out this thread regarding MSM during pregnancy. I chose not to take any other supplements besides my prenatals during my pregnancy.

Also ladies, as a reminder, no MTG during pregnancy (due to the Cade Oil).

Hey girl, I'm pretty sure MTG is not safe to use while preggers or even TTC. You may wanna research that a lil bit before starting..... i know a few threads have been done on the board re: MTG and pregnancy.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll just quit evrything just to be safe but it will be hard because I've gotten so used to my supplements.

I take pre-natals and sometimes expecta-omega 3 (for pregnant moms and nursing)
