As a twist on some of the other recent topics: What are some of the popular hairstyles and trends in your city or region of the country? I'm in the midwest and see a lot of people with various shades of brown, red, and blonde highlights and color, a lot of people with braids and natural styles.

Well, i live in Atlanta...so all i have to say is weave, weave and MORE weave.....along with swoop bangs cascading waterfalls and all that stuff that makes me wanna move to another city

but i do also see my share of nice rollersets and wraps, so it's not all too bad

-Nasty Microbraids affixed with glue
-Buns that are not protective styles *drenched with alcoholic gel*
-Wraps with no hair on sides *due to the wrapping*
-Hair that is the color of the rainbow,... red orange yellow green blue purple (damaged from the color)
-Other hairstyles that I cannot describe on this site but require at least 8734°C of heat
---
-afros *raising fist* and other natural styles
-phony tails *protective and effective!*

that's all i can think of at the moment.

anky, you are telling the absolute truth. i'm from the westbank in jefferson parish it's ALL true. I went home to visit my family with my husband and son and while i was there i wanted to get a ponytail done (simple enough or so i thought) The girl washed my hair while scrubbing my scalp with something i think you use to scrub clothes (it was so harsh

THEN she tried to brush my hair wet

!!! At that point i said "hold on" --reached down into my pocketbook on the floor beside the chair and handed her my widetooth, seemless comb and said "please use this, no offense but i NEVER brush wet hair" but she got me real good when she slapped all that cold gel in my hair without asking

I should have known that marrero was not the place for me to be trying to get my hair done

the koolaid red hair should have clued me in when i walked thru the door

Quick Weaves and Instant Weaves

27 Step Ponytails--I'm not exactly sure what this is.

It's not a ponytail, though. I think it's just a short hair weave. It involves 27 pieces of fake hair and some glue.

I see a lot of males wearing "girly" hairstyles like drop curls, braid-outs, wrap styles, etc.

And brightly colored hair--blue, burgundy, gold, etc.

in pg county it just seems to be pin curls, theres no defining style here.

but in my lovely hometown philly, the ponytail weave, for sure is the most popular style. and not tactfully done ponytail weaves, the slap and go kind. its ridiculous when we have beauty stores that are super markets (yes with carts and aisle #s and descriptions and all) and 50% of the store is ponytail weave!

This is soooo ugly, I hate this. I've seen it in SBH. I can't beleive people actually wear this.

Is the 27 step ponytail the style where it starts off short but each layer gets longer, with all of the ends flipped up? This is the first time I've ever heard of it. I'm getting images of the "basket weave," lol

. Speaking of that, does anyone live in a city/region where those "fantasy" hairstyles (like the "outrageous" hairstyles they showcase in hairshows) are actually worn by people as an everyday type style? I'm talkin feathers and all

Out here in Cali (Bay Area)
-Flipped hair
-The wrap
-A lot of bobs
-The natural carefree afro look (like Dianna Ross' daughter's style on "Girlfriends")
-Corn rolls/single braids
-Phony pony

Perfect peace I have a Question for you:
When i was out in the LA area, the girls there were telling me that no one gets relaxers out there they just press their hair. Is this true from your experience? When I went to a salon I told them that I had a relaxer they flipped
out! Ofcourse they also went searching for tracks in my hair cause they couldnt believe that I didnt wear weaves either!

Yes, its true. Although I'm in the Bay Area, the trends are about the same. I'm actually suprised at how many women at my church do NOT have relaxers. About half of the women who have shoulder length or longer hair, wear their hair pressed. There definately is a trend out here to transition and wear the hair in a pressed look or wear the hair's natural texture. I just may consider transitioning in the near future myself.

What is popular on campus:

kinky twists
micro braids
rainbow bright weaves
phonytails
phony buns (the clip on kind)
ponytails in general
lots of hair gel
overprocessed uneven hair

dreadlocks
texturizers

I don't see very many with braid outs in fact I get strange looks when I wear mine. I mean straight out stares.

I've gotten some stares when wearing braidouts too. I like the style, it's a nice change of pace from having stick straight hair all the time. By the way, looking at your avatar is like staring into a mirror, I've found my long lost twin, lol
