I think we are the minority only on the hair boards but we cannot get an accurate count because it's possible that other relaxed heads just don't post. I am proudly relaxed and have no intentions on becoming natural anytime soon.

I think out of the people who post on lhcf, relaxed may be the minority but that is def not the case on other boards (hairlista, kiss, MAYBE bhm but idk because i rarely go there). And its DEF not the case in real life.

i think women with natural hair are catching up to the relaxed women. on the forums, but in real life? nah, most women aint letting go of their precious affirm, mizani, motions, dark & lovely, or [insert preferred brand of NaOH in box/jar].

i personally think texlaxed should be lumped with relaxers...because, ummm your curl pattern is still relaxed even if its not bone straight...but then again alot of texlaxed/texturized ladies still mistakenly believe they're natural because their hair still has some curl to it :look::ohwell::perplexed:sad::nono:

Yes this girl told me the other day she was semi natural because she doesnt know if she wants to be fully natural. I said :perplexed: what does that mean? Are you transitioning? Stretching? She said she's texlaxed.....:perplexed:ohwell::spinning:

Then no, boo, you aren't natural, LOL. I think a person's either natural or they aren't--"fully natural" is probably an incorrect phrase. Transitioning is on the way to natural (and I guess some people could argue natural if there's a few inches of relaxed hair left) but texlaxing is still applying chemicals and altering the nature of one's hair on a consistent basis.

I think relaxers outweigh naturals, on the boards, and off (IRL).

There are so many hair boards that has way more relaxers than naturals.

I'm transitioning. So i'm doing my part to add one more natural to the count.

I'm natural, but I definitely don't think relaxed heads in real life or hair boards are in the minority. I just think here at LHCF, naturals are a little more vocal than naturals on other hair boards so it seems like there are more of us.

DH and I are in the habit of pointing out all the naturals we see on base. I think more women are natural there because in the military (wife) lifestyle you never know where and when you cn find a good stylist and if you're just on an extended visit it's easier to keep up natural than relaxed hair (I began my transition while out in HI this summer)

I've noticed on campus half of the black girls seem to be natural, but at the elementary school I work at, I'm the only natural, so it's definitely not the majority. Silky girls still eye me like I'm nuts, so I don't think it's the most popular option.

Everybody and "they Mama" is going natural. A lot of their hair (I.R.L.) still looks a H.A.M. to me. I would say that in my circle, natural hair is the majority. Literally every single one of my close friends and my sister are all natural....I will add that most of them transitioned with weaves & often still wear them. I don't wear weaves, I'm relaxed and plan on staying that way.

I was almost influenced by the board to transition, then I realized that I love my hair just the way it is. I don't see the big deal with going natural. I can achieve all of the same styles with my relaxed hair except for the 'fro, obviously. If I ever choose to stop relaxing my hair, I won't make a big fuss about it...I'll probably only talk about it on the hair boards.

I have a friend whose whose life now revolves around having natural hair :ohwell:...okay, never mind...I'm getting off topic.

Half of my length is natural, the rest is relaxed. People have assumed that I'm fully natural but I not. When wet my natural hair is easier to manage and when my hair is dry the relaxed protion is easier to manage. So because of that I don't consider myself a natural. I am just on trial...

I checked texlaxed, and I fully know and understand that I am relaxed. I checked texlaxed because even though I process my hair for at least 25 minutes, my hair ends up curly instead of bone straight. Not even close. So, if someone asks me whether I am natural or relaxed, my response is relaxed. Besides, most folks outside of hair boards have never heard of the term texlaxed anyway. There's no need to worry that everyone who isn't relaxed bone straight is out there claiming to be natural.

I think even if the 90% of this forum was natural, it would still probably only be true about half of BW in RL. I also think that once you start transitioning, becoming natural or even if your relaxed, but you know how to spot a good head of natural hair, you start realizing it all around you. At least I know thats true for me. One of my very good friends has been natural for as long as I've known her, but I didn't really start noticing it until I found the hair boards and started transitioning myself. I know, It sounds crazy, but its true. Also it seems that I'm in a sea of relaxed heads so much, that when I see somebody with natural hair, it stands out to me. So I dont really think that there are more naturals, just more people noticing them.

I agree with the bolded. I just think I see more naturals now...it does make me smile everytime I do, though .

Weirdly enough at my college, natural is the majority. Everywhere I go it seems like people are transitioning.

I'm transitioning, but everyone I know with the exception of my "baby sister" is relaxed. Down here in New Orleans, I'd say about 90% of the women here are relaxed so yeah...I'd have to say it is the other way around here lol

I wouldn't know people in real life who are natural vs. relaxed unless I ask; I am always fooled. So many times I ask straight hair people what relaxer they use only to hear them say they are natural. It was shocking the number of naturals I encountered in IRL that I thought was relaxed only to find out they were not but wear their hair straight 100% of the times.

everyone is "transitioning" post relaxer after a couple of weeks :-)

I don't think so.... At first I just planned to do a six month stretch and relax again. Then at about the fourth month, I decided to go ahead and transition. I am at the fifth month today. I will admit that I am still vacillating; however, this is due to my not having a flat iron and my periodic desire to wear my hair down and straight.

I said transitioning, but honestly, I'm BKT'd and transitioning. So for alot of people they would say not natural. I'll agree with that.
I think that going natural was become really popular recently, but I believe that the tides will shift.
I only stopped relaxing my hair b/c I have very fine hair and relaxing was making it too weak. Everyone has their reasons for going natural for some it is jsut a fashion statement. Others it's close to a religous experience.

I'm natural, but I know what you mean. It's as if relaxed hair is the devil incarnate or something. I may always be natural, I may get a relaxer, I may rock a fierce baldie. But I don't understand it when people let hair define who they are and worse, judge other people based on their decisions.

Back to the topic.... I'm in NYC and I probably see more relaxed hair on the trains than not (maybe 3 to 5 ratio?). I'm always looking for natural heads to look at :look: (hope you NYC ladies don't mind!) so I kinda take stock of the environment.

But one group that overshadows both are those with weaves, wigs, or extensions.

I have natural hair. Haven't relaxed my hair since November 2006.

It seems like natural hair topics tend to make up the majority of the threads here. In real life, I still see a mix of relaxed & natural around me.
