Does anyone feel that their PJitis has gotten worse since being a member of LHCF?

Well let me be honest with myself I was a "PJ" long before I joined the forum, but being a member has significantly added to my occaisional, now frequent flare-ups. I feel like I want to try EVERYTHING suggested.

Anyone else feel the same? Please vent here.

I definitely think mine has gotten worse, however I am now using products that I never knew about and finding better products for my hair. I am slowly eliminating certain products from my repetoire.

I don't think you are trying to start a riot. A couple years ago, I bought almost every product that was mentioned on this board. But, once your hair becomes trained, you become more selective with your pjism. For example, if my hair twin raves about a product, then I will try it. Or if others with the same hair type rave about a product, I will eventually check it out.

Lately, my pjism is targeted to finding the perfect daily moisturizer and a good protein treatment. To curb my hair pjism, I will go to my secondary hobbies: skincare and makeup.

Once you find a regimen that works for you, your pjism will calm down a lot!

HTH

COming to LHCF did make me a PJ, but through that PJism I found what worked for me. I'm glad about it. I know exactly what my hair responds to and what it takes to keep my hair shiny, strong and soft.

I was a pj before I got here and it went through a bad period but I've come full circle. For the most part I know what works for me. There are still a couple of staples that I'm looking for but I'm almost there. I will try a product from time to time but that's about it.

Same for me also. I don't mind it b/c I didn't know hardly ANYTHING about healthy hair care until coming here. I don't feel bad about my PJism b/c I know I'm still trying to figure out what works best for my hair. In time, I will be a recovered PJ!

I have a severe case of PJitis and I really do need to find a support group. It has come to my attention that I would often rather buy hair care products than, for example, treat myself to lunch. If I skip lunch, I can swing by Sally's and get a couple more bottles of MNT while they are still on sale. And I'll justify this because 1) I need to lose weight, anyway and 2) I keep a box of popcorn and some other little non-perishables in my locker and I can just eat that.

Seriously ya'll, I need help. I went to Sally's last night to pick up my 3rd jar of this reconstructor conditioner they have marked down that smells like bananas. I had to force myself not to buy every jar on the shelf!

At the same time, however, I absolutely agree. PJitis has helped me to discover what my hair likes, what it loves, what it responds to, what it doesn't like, what it gets mad at me for even trying and then refuses to cooperate until I give it some of the good stuff that it loves again.

:perplexed YES! I was always a PJ....but, I was PJ'ing with skincare products mostly. NOW, I have become obsessed with knowing firsthand about all the products mentioned in LHCF. Within the first two days of my membership on LHCF, I'd ordered Capilong, Surge (14 and woojee) and a whole haircare line of EMU Oil products. :ohwell:

Since Feb. 1, 2005--I've bought a tourmaline flatiron, NTM, Neutrogena Clean, Nexxus, LeKair, Profectiv, WGO, Essential Oils, EVOO, castor oil, a DENMAN, two Seamless combs in varying tooth sizes, new rollers, three new buns, new satin scarves, baggies for my baggie method, new ouchless ponytail holders, protein poos and conditioners, MSM, two kinds of Hair/Skin/Nails vits, B-complex vits, Biotin, Salmon Oil, Flaxseed Oil, L-Cysteine, and One-A-Day multi's, Robin's growafrohairlong "braids/plaits" video and the "how to take down" video too. It hasn't even been 30-days since I became a LHCF member! HELP MEEEEEE!!!!! ;o)

My PJ has gotten worse when I became a member but what has helped is looking at the ingredients and looking at what works and doesn't work for my hair. Another factor that has helped is that some of the products aren't readily available in my area and areas that I am willing to drive to.

Yes in the beginning I was a PJ but after it has slowed down considerably and now I only buy my staples and every now and again I buy something new but usually that's only after a lot of people have raved about it.

:look: Plus...thank god my mom's a pj...I can just go to her house and steal...oops I mean try her stuff!!!!! :lachen:

Oh my gosh, girl I thought I was bad. You haven't even been a member for thirty days??!!?? I've bought a lot of STUFF too.

I REALLY DO THINK THAT LHCF NEEDS A SUPPORT GROUP FOR PJ'S, maybe I should add that to the suggestions forum. Let's be real here I mean statistically for some reason most women of color do eventually lean towards PJism.

Repeat after me.. "My name is CantbeCopied and I am a product junkie.I realize I have a problem and I need to go to a Products Anonymous meeting. I need help."

I think it gets worse before it gets better. I was a PJ before I started on the hair boards. Then like everybody else, I started finding out how to get my hands on "professional" products and products from other areas. But for the last year and a half, I just buy a lot of the products that I use consistently. I'll replace a bottle long before it's used up. But I haven't bought anything new since December. So there is hope! Once you become more familiar with ingredients you become more aware of what will work for you and what's just a waste of time. You still buy products, but you don't feel the "fever" nearly as much.

Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww....lol!!! Anybody know if that's a record for the board?

LoL don't I now that my pjism won't be leaving for awhile. There are way toomany products that I want to try but my budget won' t allow me to do so. Ever since I joined the forum my mind dreams of a miracle hair product that takes all the bad hair days away. I can always dream can't I.....I'm trying to keep it up under control.

I am a PJ-- but since I've been one I've spent much less money than if I went to a salon. I used to spend so much money there and received the same pompadu results  Now I take control of my own head when I want to look cute.

I don't think it's out of control.

I Am Guilty And It's Not Even Funny I Can't Walk By My Bss Every Week Without Buying Something!!! The Guy Who Works In There Knows Me By Name And Tells Me I Can't Come Back For 2 Weeks Every Time I Come In.

I'm a major PJ and comfortable with that. Forums encourage purchases but on the other hand, I have rarely been led astray in terms of the recommendations. So in a way I save money, because before I would just buy whatever was available in the tiny half shelf for black beauty supplies in a grocery/drug store. I'd be a sucker for anything that promised moisture and growth and often I was dissappointed because the products didn't do what they promised and smell unpleasant. So call it PJ rationalization but I think my money is being better focused now.

*tapping the mic to make sure it's on*.....Hi, I'm miracle, and I'm a recovering product junkaholic. When I first joined LHCF, I bought almost every product that was mentioned, and some that weren't. I was on a first name basis with every cashier, stock person, manager, etc., at my local bss's and drugstores. My wallet was on the verge of divorcing me for abuse because I was whippin' it out of my purse all the time to buy hair products. Now, I can proudly say, that I have my product jones somewhat under control. I've found my beloved Mane n' Tail, Lamaur Bone Marrow Treatment, Razac and Salerm 21, so my need for a shampoo/conditioner fix isn't as bad as it used to be. I even made the brave step of selling some of the products that were duplicates or that I was no longer using. I know that there will probably never be a cure for my junkaholic ailment, but with the support of my LHCF sorors (yes, we are a sorority all our own), I know I can make it......one day at a time. Thank you!!:)

I always have loved hair care products!! I have sort of justified it by thinking "I amtrying to find the best Moisture Products for my hair as well as the best GROWING PRODUCTS for my hair." I do not think I will be a PJ much longer. My regimen is getting simplified and fine tuned each day.

I am a certified PJ I would buy a whole product line and forget I have it.
I bought a lot of products last year that was on sale under five bucks and from a Bss that went out of business.
I really need to attend a hair meeting to swap and get rid of products.

I agree with you. There is nothing wrong with using a product up before you rush out and try a new one. It's a problem and I am working on my own recovery.

I am a recovering PJ and every day I am getting better. But this experience has been wonderful I love trying new items and have found some gold mines in the process.

My goodness...I think I may be a close 2nd to CBC. I just paid off my last (well-overdue) credit card last month. So, I really need to watch my PJism. It's starting to get out of hand.

I have to admit yes I'm addicted to buy all beauty products....it's sad I have tons of half used products.

Initially I bought everything that sounded good (recently bought two of each NTM product---and I love it). Now I choose two or three brands I like and stick with it.

It helps to not buy anything new until I have used what I already have.

What I do now is make a wish list for myself so when I use up a product I can replace it with something from my list.

Before I joined the forum, the only products I owned were shampoo and grease! Now I have about 20 products!
