This post is going to take YOU, the reader into the complex mind of a product junkie. A true product junkie no longer has a habit of buying products that are not needed, it has become an addiction, something that PJ's either do to relieve stress, find happiness, or for which ever reason. Its a dependency that when come across is worse than being able to remove yourself from cigarettes. Some may argue that being a PJ is better than being a drug addict but it takes a true PJ to know that its not healthy, some say they're PJs while they are only beginners in the world of PJism and are yet to find both the happiness and sadness that come from the disorder. This will help you to find out if you're a PJ and give you ways to get help.

Definition Of Productisia Junkrisma:
A behavioral disorder that causes compulsive buying of hair products and at more serious latter stages, the purchasing of hair products over daily necessities.

Symptoms:

-Crying
-Joy
-No money in the bank
-No money on your credit card
-No money in your wallet
-Starving family
-Fabulous hair
-Your man leaving you
-Your man going broke
-Withdrawal symptoms if no product is bought for 2+ weeks

Cause:

LHCF: Long Hair Care forum & its members

Treatment:

Setting a strict amount of money monthly to be spent on hair products, this is the only treatment known for the disorder so far.

Is there a cure?

No, a cure has not been found, yes the disorder can be treated but their are no assurances of relapses not occurring.

How rare is the disorder?

Not rare at all, statistics show that every 8 in 10 women on LHCF will become a PJ regardless of their financial standing.

Will The treatment work for me?

7 out of 10 times, NO

What can I do if is does not work?

Nothing.

I hope you enjoyed reading this, documentary coming soon!

Also, A PJ can't stand to be told of their problem and they never pass the stage of denial.

LOL, I appreciate this post. I just realized that I was a product junkie. For me, it's a bit of adventure in my otherwise boring life.

Hi, I'm Rosa. I am a product junkie. Whenever I am bored, I like to try new products on my hair. My last purchases were Friday. I went to several Indian and Bengali stores searching for Ayurvedic products to add to my collection.

Great IDEA! Ladies if you would please introduce yourself, tell the severity of your condition and state your last purchase that would be wonderful.

I was really there where I just could not stop buying products, I just had to have everything. I am fnally at a place where I have not spent more than 10 bucks on Hair Products in the past couple of months.

I am trying to finish my products. Make a list of what worked or didn't work. So I have concurred that demon. I hope to also get over my make-up PJism as well. Its not easy

Hi. I'm Denise, and I'll become a product junkie unless I stop this mess RIGHT NOW!!!

I buy many great products but I have to make myself DC, because I don't really like doing my hair. I only do it cause I know I must, if I want to get to waist length.

The last product I've purchased were Silk Amino Acids, Panthenol Powder, Ayurvedic Powders, and Ayurvedic Oils.

I am a product junkie too! How did I find out? Well my master bathroom is filled with haircare products, there is a huge bag on the side of my bed filled with products. I went in the family room and there is a bag of products in there!
I went into the laundry room and there are two bags! One of them filled with a Ellen Lavar collection! How bad is that, I bout forgot who she was! The other bag has a bunch of Surge shampoo conditioner oils, etc...

How come these bags are all over the place, I live in the country and am a mail-order shopper. It comes in and does not make it to its proper destination. Worst of all, these products will never touch my head. My haircare products are HAIRVEDA. Oh well, my daughter is going to have one fabulous head of hair!

I find your post both insightful and thought-provoking. I do, however, find a point or two or contention; a TRUE PJ will begin displaying withdrawal symptoms within 2-3 days if they have not purchased a new product(s). If you can go two weeks before getting an itch or pookie-like twitch, I would venture to say you are only in the beginning phases of this horrid disease and there's still hope for redemption. The other point would be having no money on a credit card. A true PJ always, and I do mean always, leaves at least $50 open and available for unforseen hair emergencies. If said funds are not available, there is always a backup resource that can be accessed to satiate the ravenous monster that rages within. In other words, boo betta come off them damn dollas when I say so! :look:

Hi, I'm Stephanie, and I'm not a product junkie...I SWEAR!

Last purchases: Suave clarifying conditioner, Banana Brulee deep conditioner, shower filter, Kenra MC, CD hair milk...

I'm a product junkie as well. I went to the Dollar Store to get clear tubs to put them all in. Every month I go in and re-organize them. I have them catagorized, and sub-catagorized. I may go out and buy towels just for my hair. My last purchase was last Wednesday....Aussie Deep. I plan to go back and get Aussie Moist this week.

^^^^
Thats nice that your problem seems to only be on products that are inexpensive, ive gotten out of hand and need multiples of items that cost 10, 15, 25 and so on. I spend money on products because I got to have them even when i'm in braids and it will be 6-8 weeks before I can even get to try them. The sad part is with my PJism actually using the products is optional, I've just gotta have them. I reorganize my closet and find stuff all the time from months ago!

I haven't even finished reading the entire thread yet but I had to stop and say :lachen::lachen::lachen:! Okay back to reading.

*sigh*, Eisani, you have no right to be in this thread, you're no longer a product junkie you are far more than that and scientists are still researching your case!

Hi my name is Shay and I'm a PJ. My addiction definitely came from joining LHCF. I stalk fotkis, look at staples, take notes, and go on shopping sprees. My PJism doesn't produce relaxation, more like an anxiety to use the products and see results. The products I've bought in the last week were rusk sensories condish, neutrogena daily condish, QP mango, Joico Kpak condish, Joico silk results condish, still waiting on my mizani H2O. I said I'm through, but just reading about the high priced hand dryer results makes me want one. I'm not sure if I'll get it, but prolly will *sigh*.

Does this include Ingredient Junkies also? because I stop buying all the products, but I could never have enough ingredients. You butters oils, herbs, molasses and other secret ingredients:lachen::lachen::lachen:

Nice thread!

I am a product junkie! Just realized it this morning when the movers came to move my stuff and hair products alone filled two large boxes!! The man looked at me in wonder!

I tend to stock up on stuff that I like or that I'd like to try.:spinning: I have decided that I am not buying anything else till I fully use up everything that I have now.

For how many of you is the behavior genetic? My house looked like a BSS before I started getting interested in hair care. Every time my grandmother saw a stylist do something to either of our hair, she would go out and buy that product. Even now, she hoards products in her room (because there is no more room in the bathroom or on the tray in the dining room).

Definitely possible, all this will be included in the documentary.
