OMG!!!! THE WORST AND MOST PAINFUL TOUCHUP IN MY LIFE!!!!!

Right now I am utterly depressed. I cannot believe this woman did this to me. I went to Essential Style Unisex on 145th and amsterdam. I only went there because:

a) I needed a touchup and the person who told me they knew of another place didnt get back to me

b) I couldnt do it on my own and I was too nervous to do an at home touchup.

c) Carmenrose from this site had went to this stylist and her hair looks great so I decided to try it out.

First thing when I went in there the stylist(Amparo) wasnt there. They said she was in her apartment. This I found weird because I told her I would be there around 1 and she wasnt there. That should have been a clue for me to leave.

Fast forward to when she finally arrives about 1hr later and when she finally applies the relaxer the phone rings and she walks away and answers it and is on the phone damn near 2 mins! I am like wtf this doesnt stop working once you leave it!!!! After it is applied she sits down and starts talking to the other stylist. AGAIN WTF!! UMMM This is still in my damn hair!!!

I tell her its burning and she rinses me out. Once the neutralizer hit my scalp I felt like someone had poured acid on my hair and set it on fire. The pain was so horrible. I was so scared my hair was sliding off in the sink. Then when the water hit my head it felt like someone was stabbing me with needles or tiny knives. I have never felt pain like that before in my life.

When she goes to roller set my hair she starts cutting. It happened so fast I couldnt even react. I was in shock and felt every nerve in my body shut down. Then she starts applying all these things to my hair.

Well after I am done to pay my bill she says that will be $55. I was like ummm you told me 35 on the phone. She was like well with the cut and the deep conditioner it cost more. I said I never asked for any of that. She said well your hair needed it. I said all I have is 40 so she took it. Then told me to call her the next day to tell her how my hair is. And to come back in 2 weeks.

OKay when I get home my whole head felt like I got hit with a bat it hurt so bad. I couldnt sleep the pain was so intense. Today I took a neutralizing shampoo and washed my hair myself and let it airdry. The pain isnt as bad but it is still there. Now my damn hair is shorter than when I walked into that damn salon.

ALL MY HARD WORK DOWN THE DAMN DRAIN. WTF IS GOING ON???? I mean why does this continue to happen to me????? Do I have a sign that says use me do whatever the hell you want. I now have a damn BALD SPOT ON both sides of my head which hurt like hell. I need to grow these suckers in and try to get this pain to go away. PLease I really need support right now I feel like crying. God bless you all.

/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Oh my...I'm speechless. I'm so sorry this happened to you... /images/graemlins/kiss.gif

Im sooo sorry azul! Do you know what type of relaxer she used? I think you should call her back and tell her what happened. Im really sorry. /images/graemlins/kiss.gif

OMG. I am so sorry this happened to you. I don't know what to say. First things first. Try to heal up any burns.

This is truly awful, Azul... did you show her the spots that she created? I would have to go back and complain. Take pictures of what is going on right now to document the damage. What the heck are these professionals doing!!! /images/graemlins/nono.gif

wait a sec... do you mean the perm she applied to ur hair caused you to have a bald spot??? THAT /images/graemlins/censored.gif
what type of relaxer did she use? Have you used it before? Are you sure it was what your requested or did she come out with that little black bowl and the relaxer already in it? (sometimes, they use whateverthehell they want)

OMG, im over here like WTF is going on here???

Okay, let me not get you any more upset than you already are. How is your hair doing today? Does it feel okay? Do you have any scabs? If so, did you put anything on them?

I'm sorry that this happen to you. When it comes to stylist doing your hair, you definitely need to speak up. It's your hair that they are messing with. Don't trust everyone to do a good job on your hair and don't expect your hair to turn out great if you don't tell them what you want. Good luck next time. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I feel soooo bad for you, how long did she leave the relaxer in altogether? Maybe you can use some essentials oil to help soothe the scalp such as Lavender or chamomile. If damage occurs, document everything, take photos and get to a dermatologist quick.

I'm glad you spoke up for yourself. Damn her charging you for something you didn't even ask for!!!
Then told me to call her the next day to tell her how my hair is. And to come back in 2 weeks.
I wonder why. /images/graemlins/mad.gif You need to go back and show that /images/graemlins/censored.gif those bald spots she left /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Sounds like she realized that she'd damaged your hair during the styling process. That's why she did the extra conditioning steps and told you to come back and let her see it soon.

Is she very much older than you? Were you intimidated by her? I don't understand why you waited an hour and put up with ANY of this when your intuition told you not to do it.

Take pictures. Press charges. The bald spots will testify to your pain and suffering. You deserve more than a refund.

right now some AO prods will do you some good......seriously.....they contain a high content of aloe vera which is good for healing scalp sores and irritation............

What a nightmare!!! Omygosh, I'm sorry you had to go through that!
Try applying aloe vera on the scalp. I find it relieves any type of burn and should help with healing.

Why professional(I use the word loosely) stylists continue to nonchalently apply chemicals and treat them as if they were darn conditioning treatments is beyond me! There should really be more stringent guidelines to prevent this, like malpractice suits but for salon victims or something. I'm serious! There is a lot of physical and emotional damage from these types of things.

I hate going to hair salons for this very reason!! I once had a beautician chop (yes, chop) off a piece of my hair in the back raising my hair length to neck level because I was taking too long deciding whether or not to get my hair cut. He then replied, "It's too late now!" And what pissed me off even more was that I let him do it! /images/graemlins/mad.gif I don't know what it is about sitting in that chair, but I would become helpless. /images/graemlins/cry3.gif
Did you ever see that "Taxi" episode where Elaine let a very famous hairdresser destroy her hair because she was too intimidated to stop him. At the end she looked like a weird Rosanne Rosanna Danna (SNL) w/orange hair!

Seriously, I'm so sorry. As already stated, take lots of pictures and tell her what happened! The least she should do is give you free deep con treatments until your hair gets back to normal. That is if you still want to use her. Personally, I wouldn't let her near my hair again!
/images/graemlins/antlers.gif

Azul I feel so bad for you right now. I remember when you made the post about the person backed out from doing your relaxer.

It does sound like she left it on too long since you have a bald spot. I agree that you need to confront her about it. It sounds like she knew something was up for her to tell you to call her the next day and tell her how your hair was.

She knows she /images/graemlins/censored.gif up.

We definitely have to find you someone you can trust to do this who is not a hair messer (as someone else would say).

Do we all need to go down there and whoop her

I also think you need to apply something to your scalp that will help heal it. Either aloe vera gel or tea tree oil in some type of carrier oil.

I think we all feel that way!! And you can't be mad at yourself for "letting him do it" because HE'S the one who had the scissors in his hand... he had the power, and all it takes is one snip and like he said "It's too late now"... THAT'S exactly the reason why we feel helpless when sitting in the chair... the stylist is the one with the power, and we're basically at their mercy!!! /images/graemlins/look.gif Of course, you can speak up if you don't like something, but then you run the risk of pissing the stylist off, and God knows, you don't wanna piss off someone who's about to slap a chemical on your hair, and/or give you a trim!!! /images/graemlins/nono.gif

Azul, I'm really sorry about your experience!! That's why I think it's so important to find a stylist that you trust, and even then, there are NO guarantees!! They might be having a bad day, or just not feel like doing hair that particular day, and who suffers for it?? The client!!! /images/graemlins/angry2.gif

In a perfect world, we would all be able to manage our hair ourselves, and there'd be no need for hairdressers!! /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm so sorry that you experienced this, but I think that you will never have to go through this again if you learn from your mistakes. Always trust your gut instincts and speak up!!!

If you don't want the stylist to cut your hair, say it! If they still grab the scissors, pull away from them, get louder and leave if you have to.

Now, I don't see how anyone can sit and let the stylist walk away while a relaxer is on their head. You should have hollered at her right then. Remember, it's your hair and scalp, noone else cares about it more than you, so you must defend it.

Oh no!!! I am soooo sorry this happened to you! /images/graemlins/kiss.gif This is sooo depressing! Between my personal experiences and your trama I have no faith in ANY stylist anymore.

I am tooo seconds away from whuppin her tail for ya! /images/graemlins/fishslap.gif It is only a train ride away.

Girl..I am soooo sorry /images/graemlins/frown.gif

What is really up w/ these so-called cosmetologists. It's bad enough that we have to put up with some of their attitudes, but now....it's like they can't even do the job right? Are u serious?

This is what I suggest:

#1 - Wash your hair again with neutralizing shampoo.

#2 - Drench your scalp and hair with oils while they air-dries. Lately, I've been standing by atlien's oil concoction of WGO/coconut/castor oil, but any type would be fine. Just make sure your scalp is well coated. I'd say let this sit on your hair until you're ready to wash it again.

#3 Wash again with Neutralizing shampoo.

#4 Keep you scalp oiled until the burns heal.

#5 - Take this as a learning experience. I know I had to learn things the hard way before I started speaking up for myself more and knowing what to do and not to do. It just so happened that this situation involved your hair.

Let us know what happens. /images/graemlins/kiss.gif

I think my main problem is I hate confrontation and I have a problem saying no. I have always been so quiet and shy and never yell or anything. During this experience I knew of plenty of times I could have cursed this woman out but I didnt. I sat there thinking this must be a bad dream that I will wake up from. The lady knew that the spots were there because when she was taking out the rollers she touched one of them and asked if they hurt and I said yes. Everytime I raise my eyebrows I feel pain. Even when I dont I still do. Thank God its not as intense as it was last night. I thought I was losing my mind and I had no aspirin in sight. My friend came over and gave me some advil and told me to rub the spots with aloe vera.

The relaxer she used is one I have never heard of in my life. I asked for no lye because I felt the lye was making my hair appear too thin. So she comes out with this container and when she went to the phone I looked and it said linaga or something like that and it said shea butter creme texturizer. At first I was like texturizer??? I didnt ask for a texturizer but I thought well it has shea butter so maybe it wont be that harsh. And the sad thing is I have been on this site since the beginning as azul and now as azul11, I was at multicultural board, I have been dedicated to this for almost 4 yrs and have heard all types of horror stories and I know that none of these ladies are any different from me. We all want the same things but there are always people out there who could care less.

I mean the lady had the audacity to try to charge me from vitamin e thing she put in my hair which I damn for sure know cost no more than 99 cents and talking about she used affirm conditioner in my hair when i know when I smell Queen Helene cholesterol. Come on now and when they had me under the dryer with the conditioner I was right near the sink. No Affirm or anything expensive in sight.

Today I just bought some surge, I am currently taking msm and now I will add l-cystene and more condtioner washes and just pray that this thing just goes away. God bless you all.

I'm so sorry to hear about your lovely tresses. /images/graemlins/kiss.gif The ladies have given you some great suggestions. Keep us posted on your progress.

That BI*CH!!! She knew she had messed you up because if not she wouldn't have told you to call her the next day. And I hate when stylists try and charge you for crap you didn't ask for!

I hope your scalp gets better, I heard Emu oil is really good for bald spots and inflammation.

Get better /images/graemlins/kiss.gif
