OMG!!!! THE WORST AND MOST PAINFUL TOUCHUP IN MY LIFE!!!!!

Sorry this happened to you. You should speak up to your stylist and demand better service. I am not blaming, just suggesting.

I'm really sorry this happened to you again Azul. Honestly, I understand you have trouble speaking up for yourself, but if you don't think you can manage it, maybe it's better not to relax at all or (as you seemed commited to a few weeks ago) to start relaxing yourself.

Chemical applications are nothing to play with. If you can't speak up (even though I understand why that's hard for you), you shouldn't go to hairdressers. I mean, you spoke up when it came to the money - why not your hair and scalp??? It seems to me like it's not the hairdressers that are the problem, it's the fact that you won't stand up for yourself, because it keeps happening!

That said, try not to worry too too much, becuase I don't think your hair is permanently damaged. Your scalp should be fine in a few days, and in the future, I think you're just going to have to think very hard about what you're going to do about relaxing, because you can't keep doing this to yourself. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

I am sitting here crying because it is true. This is the worst touchup in my life but I keep leaving the stylists because I always feel like they do whatever they feel without ever asking if its okay. I keep saying to myself am I wearing a sign or something. I think its my personality that continues to make me go through this. I feel stupid because I never stand up for myself. I have a friend who is my twin (born on the same day, diff year though) but she is the polar opposite of me. She curses, she yells, she gets fired up and doesnt take mess. And I told her I admired that she didnt let people walk all over here. I remember not too long ago when I went to a salon and got a wash and set and I sat and waited for a half hour with rollers in my hair after I was done with the dryer for the lady to take them out and wrap my hair. I know for sure she would have not been that patient. I dont even know what to do. This pain was so unreal. I still cannot sleep properly. I know though the pain is lessening. Not when I touch it but at least now I can move my eyebrows without almost crying.

Thank you ladies for your support. I tried the aloe vera but that stung like hell. I think I may have to buy the plant because I was using the type from fruit of the earth. I am just going to try to heal these wounds and then maybe in a week or two it will be okay to use some surge. God bless you all.

Again, I'm sorry about your experience. Did you try Vit E. I think the Vit E capsules popped opened and placed directly on the scalp will help also. This shouldn't sting.

I'm on my way to church this morning and will say a prayer for you. /images/graemlins/angel.gif

Again it sounds like I am the 50th person to say this, but I am sorry your experience was so horrible. You have received some excellent advice. I hope you are putting something on your wounds to ward off infections. I still get burned some with my touch ups although your case sounds more severe. I have used just some vitamin e and this healed them up nicely. I honestly feel the less manipulation you do now with your scalp and hair the better you may begin to feel. Can you maybe put it in a bun and leave it alone for a few days?

Azul, I'm sorry that this happened to you. I'm frankly very surprised and appalled that this happened.

I've only recommended her on this site and to others because of the way she permed my hair and the other patrons that I've seen come to her. This woman was the "star stylist" at another salon. She had so many clients she left to open up her own shop. She also has people drive 4-8 hours to ge their hair done by her. I would have never thought she would do anything like this to anyone..

As for the perm that you used, I've never heard of it. Nor did I know she used it. She holds a lot of her higher end products like Nexxus, Affirm & Keracare and also some of the Dominican products that she uses in the front, side closet or in the back room. I've never seen that perm used before; only Mizani, Affirm, Motions (which I used to use), Revlon and Creme of Nature. I cannot speak for no-lye perms like the one you used but I have seen her use Gentle Treatment etc.

As for my hair, I was going to her only for touchups and on the rare occasion for hairstyles. I don't want to come across as arrogant, but my hair is a result of MY hard work just as YOUR hair is the result of YOUR hair work. The stylist herself did not do anything to my hair other than touch ups to help me attain or retain any length. Needless to say that isn't reassuring if a touch up doesn't go well and hinders your growth.

Recently, I complained about her trimming my hair too much, keeping at the same length. If it wasn't on this board, it was over at BHCAB. Before I moved to Winston-Salem, I did get a touch up from her, but not a trim, and it did go well.

Although my hair was under-processed from using Motions relaxer, I didn't have any problems with her touch ups. I would also base my scalp (with her or any other stylist) before getting a touch up with Vaseline or hair grease to help prevent scalp irritation---not that I think that would have prevented your experience, but I am just trying to, I guess, figure out why my experiences with her were so different from yours.

Also I know of two other people that I recommended her to and as far as I know, they weren't any complaints about her service. I had no reason to think that anyone, including you, would have a problem.

Again I am sorry that this happened and I wish you all the best. I am sure your scalp and hair will be restored soon with all of the knowledge you have already and at your disposal with the boards. So many women are not as lucky.

I think there are lessons here for all of us, including myself. We can only judge a stylist on the technique they apply to OUR OWN hair; not the way someone else’s hair looks. When it comes to any sort of hair treatment, in particular, chemical applications, WE MUST speak up and make demands and requests for our hair.

I'm am so sorry this happened to you azul. There are so many ladies here from New York, I'm sure someone will be able to help you find a new stylist who can help nurture your hair back to health.

Edited to add: It would also be a good idea to visit a dermatologist if you can. The derm should be able to offer some type of treatments to help your scalp heal.

Hope you feel better soon

You poor thing, I'm getting mad just thinking about it. Well hopefully there is no permanent damage. Keep both areas oiled, and even use some anti-baterical ointment, to keep it from getting infected. Well I guess we all know what she was doing in her apartment. Probably getting her drink on, yeah you should have just let her *** stay home.

So sorry this happened to you sweetie. I am now CONVINCED that it takes no kind of intelligence or skill at all to get a license to do hair. What else could the explanation be for ALMOST ALL stylists, especially black ones, being so incompetent?
