Must be something to it, Lush discontinued its Okra Conditioner years ago and recently brought it back. I haven't tried it though, but my thick, curly-haired customers rave about it. If I decide to get it, I'll probably do so around Christmas. Here's a quote from the website:

Okra and nettles restore softness and shine to mistreated hair
Okra, the vegetable, is that pointy green one with ridges on the outside and soft white seeds in the middle. It always tastes delicious in Indian restaurants but if you boil it for too long it turns into soft mucilage. Fortunately, this makes it wonderful for softening locks, even those in terrible condition. Nettles, grapes, vinegar and rosemary oil help restore shine too. With a fresh herbal fragrance, this is one strong conditioner; use it with care to restore cruelly mistreated hair.

I'm sure you could try your own hand at making your own treatment. Here's a good article that pertains to hair growth: http://www.ehow.com/how_2264049_more-volume-this-really-works.html
