Nightmare-- MT and OCT

Last week was my first experience with MT and I must say it did not go well at all. My hair was a tangled mess after using it, so this week I decided to try OCT. I did not buy the hair softener because everyone on here seems to use only the cell therapy. It too made my hair a tangled mess. I think I've lost more hair the past two weeks than I've lost all year. I'm so disappointed. Because of how much hair was lost, I'm afraid I will not meet my goal of making APL by December.:nono:

I used both OCT and MT as a pretreatment (not at the same time) and even combined them with a moisturizing conditioner hoping that it would soften my hair and left them both on overnight. The next day when I went to wash it out, my hair became tangled with each stroke of hair. It was a horrible nightmare. I didn't know how I was going to get my hair back to normal. Today, after using OCT, during my wash I had clumps of hair falling out. I was so scared and angry.:wallbash: The whole purpose of me using these products is to grow hair not lose hair. I think these two products have caused me to have a set back and I'm so upset.

On the bottle of OCT it says to run the product through your hair and massage into the scalp to make the hair grow and to make it strong and this is what I did; however, it only matted and tangled my hair so badly that I couldn't even get a comb to go through it. I got out of the shower and applied 10en1 and deep conditioned for 45 minutes and this did not help the tangles. My hair still tangled with each touch, so then I got out and applied EVOO to my hair and set under the dryer again for 30 minutes and this was the only thing that helped me comb through my hair. I still lost hair but not as much.

Has anyone else encountered tangling and matting when using these products? Maybe it's different if you have relaxed hair, but I'm over 6 months post relaxer and it doesn't take much for my hair to become a tangled mess. If this happens to you, please let me know what you do.

And if it doesn't happen to you, please let me know how you are using these products to benefit your hair.

Because everyone has had great success in using the products, I'd like to continue to use them, but not at the expense of losing my hair and not meeting my goal.

Any suggestions you may have are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for listening to me vent.......I so needed to do this!:yep:

Wow I'm so sorry. I 'm sure someone here can help you.

Maybe you can email Ovation and ask them for possible solutions?

i'm thinking you should chill on the oct and mt for a little while and then just do a bunch of moisturizing deep conditionings. Thats the only thing I can think of. Hopefully, some oct and mt users will be along to show you how to continue using it.

You don't leave them in over night:nono::nono::nono:

You massage it into your scalp for 5 minute to a couple of hours when washing and then rinse out and proceed with your usual conditioning. OR You apply a small amount directly to your scalp, I am talking like a quarter sized amount for your whole head, and leave it in until your next wash.

When you use them on the length of your whole hair, you don't leave them in long. Since you used MT and OCT in a very short amount of time incorrectly you are going to just need moisture for awhile. What other moisturizing conditioners do you have on hand? Its going to be okay :sneakyhug:

I'm sorry this happen to you!! I, myself, am using the complete OCT system (poo/rinse/cell therapy). (I have put in an order for MT to begin rotating both). I'm currently texturized. I'm in long twist braid extensions.

I shampoo 1x per week with the color poo.
I use the OCT on my scalp only every other day per week.
Since I'm in braids, I don't apply the Cream Rinse on my braids.
Instead, I CW with either Suave Humectant or Nexxus Moisturizing conditioner.

Now a few question for you....
Did you read the entire thread before using these products? Or the original thread for this challenge?
The reason I ask is that alot of people have been excited about those progress pictures and are joining the challenge without thoroughly researching what they are using. These seem to be the ones who suffer setbacks.
Both of these products high protein levels in them. And your hair may not have needed it applied to the entire length. I suggest deep conditioning with a moisturizing conditioner to get your hair back.
HTH!

uh..... :nono::nono::nono::nono::nono::nono:

 Girl, why would you do that?

I think that you should up the moisture and just leave OCT and MT alone until your hair is normal. You have protein overload!

Definitely up the moisture in any way possible... co washes, lots of deep conditioning, baggying... just keep your hair moist!

You should ALWAYS just do a little research on new products that you are unsure of! :yep:

However, you CAN get through this and get your hair back to normal. Baby your hair, no protein for a while! Be very gentle with it also.

Good Luck!

Sorry that happened to you PrincessDi. My second use of OCT gave me tangles - I had been using it all week on my scalp and then used the trio for my next wash. I got a deep moisturizing conditioner (Kenra MC) and I've been great ever since. In your first pic, your hair looks fine... is that right? and relaxed? Kenra MC overnight would do you good. You'll get back on track. It'll be okay. :yep:

Since you are six months post relaxer that means you have a definite line of demarcation. I would not manipulate my hair too much with OCT/MT, these are strong protein treatments. If you're going to continue to use it before your next touch-up, I would apply only to the scalp or smooth it, not massage, on the length of your hair.

W-O-W. :nono:

I literally HOLLERED as I was reading your post. :endworld:

NEVER leave this stuff (or anything besides conditioner, for that matter) directly on your hair over night, sis. It's asking for trouble.

I agree with everyone else. Put it away for awhile and ramp up on the moisturizing conditioners. Several days of deep conditioning (moisturizing) and possibly some daily moisturizing cowashes thrown in for good measure should have you back in business in no time. :yep:

G/L!

:nono:

everybody is coming down on her for leaving them in , but many ladies are doing that , so how would she know?

This is protein and everyone is going to react different and even over time the hair can begin to react different

Isnt 10en1 another protein treatment? :nono:

I think that ladies that use this product are only leaving it on their scalps (which I still dont get cause there is hair there too) but they are not leaving it in their hair, doesnt the directions say a time frame to rinse it out if you put it all through your hair? I mean it should-its protein!

everybody is coming down on her for leaving them in , but many ladies are doing that , so how would she know?

leaving mt/oct on the length of their hair for extended periods of time? no, dear, theyre not.

It has some near the last ingredients. I wouldn't call it a protein conditioner, just has a little light protein in it.

I was under the impression that most people use it on their scalps... some times giving themselves a protein treatment maybe...

But I know that a big thing they watch out for is too much protein, and they moisturize and deep condition a lot.

They even said to consider stopping the use of other protein products when using MT and OCT. It's in the first post in one of the main threads. :ohwell:

Dang, i'm sorry that happened to you . I hope everything you do to your hair from here on out goes well. I know what it feels like to have a mishap and it's really sucks.

If U want to get rid of any one U can give it to me. All jokes aside, I really hope your hair recovers well.

I totally agree with this post. When I read the OP's story, I knew it had to do with HOW she's manipulating her hair. At first, I was thinking "How in the heck is she getting tangled hair from using MT/OCT?" The fact that she's six months post definitely made the problem clear (to me anyway).

I'm 5 and a half months posts too. After I wash my hair, I SMOOTH MT on my scalp, do a quick 10-20 second massage (if that), and I'm done. If I massaged it in, my hair would be a hot bird's nest! There's already issues with the natural hair and relaxed hair tangling, massaging just exacerbates the problem.

I also agree with the others about only applying to your scalp UNLESS you plan to rinse it out within an hour.

Oh, hunny!!!! :bighug:  :bighug:

How scary! Did you not realize that these were both INTENSE protein treatments???? :nono: Never the sort of thing that you leave in overnight!

I'd strongly suggest several back to back overnight DC (moisturizing ONLY) sessions, along with dropping anything even vaguely protein related out of your reggie until your hair comes back to normal...... :yep: Add honey to them, too, to give yourself an extra boost.

I suspect the hair that is coming out is from a protein overload - you want to manipulate your hair as LITTLE as possible until it's back to normal, otherwise it'll just snap off :nono:

I'm natural, (26 months post ;) ) and I use it like a hair grease - just part my hair, and massage it into the scalp. I would NEVER use it on the length of my hair unless I needed a major protein treatment...... '

If you do decide to experiment with them again - please, I beg you, read both challenge threads to get a clear understanding of the do's & don'ts that the ladies who are actually using it have determined - no need to practice on your head! :bighug:

Sorry this happened to you OP. This is why those of us who started using this from the beginning shared with everyone to please read the entire original threads on OCT and MT so that you can get the best possible experience from it. Just like with anything else we use....read, read, read, and then do a test before using it all over. You want to make sure that you can use it without any problems.

I use this on my scalp and leave it in...with NO problems and I have been using this since March. If there was a problem, it would have happened already.

I know that your hair will come back, just listen to the ladies who USE the product and they will steer you in the right direction, ok?

Blessings to you!

Yes, yes and yes....JustKiya!

Please post back and let us know how your hair is now

I would keep using lots of oils and do lots of Deep Conditioning and whatever you do, do not touch any protein (including those products) for a while.

for those that are saying that its only used on the scalp, I still just dont get that, because its still going to get on the hair there.

This is sad , a hair tragedy, I hope people start reading more before using these products. Sigh

I'm sure even on the product directions it didnt say to leave it in overnight

for those that are saying that its only used on the scalp, I still just dont get that, because its still going to get on the hair there.

wouldnt you think that the length of your hair and the ends are much more sensitive than the hair close to your scalp? it doesnt really come into as much contact with brushes. it doesnt get manipulated as frequently. it doesnt come into much contact with harsh temperatures that weaken the length. mostly it just lies there undisturbed. there isnt much opportunity for hair in that area to be damaged. its hard to think of circumstances that would make your hair break off an inch from your scalp... wouldnt you say thats the difference?

I like to use an applicator bottle to apply it and I use my fingers to rub it in. You don't need much so it really doesn't get anywhere else. If you are kinda pouring it on like relaxer cream then yeah, you might have a protein problem. OP, Keep us posted.

I imagine it could be, but I still cant figure out how that hair might not still get too much protein and become hard and dry, unless the uptake of it is different there, or like you said the variable of it is what makes it different, its just hard to totally grasp how it works without the downsides for me

so the application is going on the scalp , I totally understand that, isnt some going to get on the hair?

well anyway, I have shut up now about this, because for those its working for its working for, not much else can be said

I have seen a few ladies go through protein overload, I guess from the run off while CW or Washing it out, its stil going throughout the hair, but it was when they used another Protein conditioner , that they realized that it had already affected the strength of the length of their hair

I'm just gonna say like everyone else says , anyone wanting to use these products really needs to read through the threads, like it or not , its a must and if your not going to do that follow the directions on the bottles at the very least

The OCT bottle instructions even suggest for intense results leave in overnight on the hair and scalp!!!!!

A little does get on my roots sometimes but my hair doesn't get hard. For starters, when I started this product, I made sure my hair tiptoed on the over moisturized line and I always condition afterwards. The creme rinse that comes in this system is perfect for that and it works very quickly. When I apply it to my roots and let it sit overnight, my hair is always soft when rinsing in the morning. Even then I apply a little moisture conditioner afterwards. I think part of the reason she had such a bad problem is that she used both pretty much back to back even after she started having signs of protein overload after the first time around. I have use MT on my whole head twice as a conditioner and I use it for 15 minutes and then follow with kenra for 10-15 minutes.

it does???????????????

what the?????

so she was following the product's directions?

But that is assuming you are using the whole system, like following with the creme rinse. That creme rinse is something special. That is why they put all of it together. The system is designed to balance itself out.
