Nightmare-- MT and OCT

OP, you probably don't want to use this stuff again. However, If you do this is how Im using OCT for the time being. I apply it to my hair and scalp only after I have washed with a moisturizing conditioner and rinsed. Then I apply a few pumps of my moisturizing conditioner to my hair (massage it in) and then apply OCT to my scalp and hair. I let it sit in for a couple of hours, and I always follow up with a overnight moisturizing treatment. I HTH!!

A little does get on my roots sometimes but my hair doesn't get hard. For starters, when I started this product, I made sure my hair tiptoed on the over moisturized line and I always condition afterwards. The creme rinse that comes in this system is perfect for that and it works very quickly. When I apply it to my roots and let it sit overnight, my hair is always soft when rinsing in the morning. Even then I apply a little moisture conditioner afterwards. I think part of the reason she had such a bad problem is that she used both pretty much back to back even after she started having signs of protein overload after the first time around. I have use MT on my whole head twice as a conditioner and I use it for 15 minutes and then follow with kenra for 10-15 minutes.

I just hope that the people that get these products are as wise as you and err on the side of caution like you would-but we all know thats just not going to always be the case-as we can see-they see it working for others and go nuts with it for growth. I just wish there was a way to stop those incidents but there isnt , people have to be responsible and accountable for what they choose to do and learning everything about it first. and all the information is out there

but I cant believe Ovation products are suggesting overnight usage in their directions? thats so crazy to me!

dont forget to add what you exactly do after a couple hours when you rinse it (shampoo or what?) out and how often you do it :yep:

little stuff like that can make a big difference

I agree. You should always start off with the most "mild" instructed use and go from there.

I have used it overnight, not all over the hair but concentrated on my scalp and new growth but my hair was soft when rinsing. Again though I was using the shampoo and creme rinse when I did that.

I get it now, she didnt use the creme rinse and doubled the treatments with no balancing the first time

Oh, yeah...youre right!

I only do it once a week and I dont shampoo out (I don't use shampoo) I just rinse it out (Thoroughly) I may use a couple of pumps of WEN If it's not a smooth rinse out and then I apply a deep moisturizing conditioner.

Actually, I got this stuff in my head now...going to go rinse in a few minutes!:yep:

I'm a newbie but I'll share what has been working for me.

I apply MT daily - dabbing on my scalp as if it was a "heavy" hair grease (meaning I wouldn't want to use too much of it). However I only do this AFTER either 1) co-washing, or 2) apply my regular moisturizer to my hair. I am having great success with this product; if I had to guess, I would surmise that any MT that overlaps onto my hair is being deflected by the moisturizer.

I did try applying it along the length of my hair after a poo - left it on 5 minutes, rinsed and followed with a DC. No adverse effects.

Now a few question for you....
Did you read the entire thread before using these products? Or the original thread for this challenge?
The reason I ask is that alot of people have been excited about those progress pictures and are joining the challenge without thoroughly researching what they are using. These seem to be the ones who suffer setbacks.
no further questions. hope you fix your hair though.

I think you should just apply to your scalp directly:yep: a bit would get on your hair but not as much, my hair's double processed so doesn't mind the extra protein (most of the time)

Okay, first off, thanks for everyone who responded. All of your suggestions and concerns are appreciated.

A special thanks goes out to Charmtreese for backing me up and stating that the directions on the OCT bottle does state to leave it in overnight for intense treatment. If it hadn’t suggested that I run the product through my hair and massage into the scalp and leave on overnight for intense results” – I would not have done that. Also thanks, Charmtreese for giving me your regimen for using OCT. It is very much appreciated girl!!

On the other hand, most of you are right, I should have read all the OCT/MT threads before using the products. Like everyone has said, I think that I have protein overload from leaving it in my hair overnight and not using the crème rinse.

I had been using the product as a pre-treatment; however, I think I’m just going to stop using it and step up the moisturizing treatments for a while. Maybe when my hair is back to normal, I’ll use it again, but only massaging it into my scalp. That’s what I was doing anyway, until I -- FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE BOTTLE!

Jrae, yes, my hair is fine and yes, I do relax (but in the pictures it’s just flat ironed). I’m currently over 6 months post relaxer.

My deep conditioning conditioner of choice is Mizani Moisturefuse. I love that stuff and after using it my hair feels like butter; however, I’m out and need to restock. The only moisturizing conditioner I currently have is the ORS Replenishing conditioner (the bottle not the pack). I have noticed that the bottle feels different than the pack, but they smell the same. It may have protein in it as well and shouldn’t be used for such purposes as moisturizing, but that’s all I have. Should it be used alone for moisturizing purposes?

I do like Kenra MC deep conditioner as well; however, it’s too expensive for me for the little bottle it comes in.

Anyway, thanks for all the responses. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

I am sorry to hear this happened to you.

I have fine 3C hair. I once had a similar experience where I used Aphogee 2 minute with heat on my hair without detangling first.

I ended up with a tangled mess of dreads. The shed hairs had fused with the rest of my hair. I was beside myself !!!!!!!!!:whyme:

I slapped every moisturizer I had in there and left it overnight while I thought about what to do.

The next day I washed lightly with neutralizing shampoo (I never use shampoo) and thankfully was able to comb through my hair. I had some breakage and had to cut out a few dreads, but I lived through it.

I learned never to use protein on my hair with heat or without detangling first.

Since MT and OCT are protein sprays I think this is what happened to you.

Baby your hair with moisture for a while and you will be OK.

I've just started using MT. I use it only on my scalp and will leave it in until my next wash. I've read all 260 + pages of the original OCT/MT thread and I know not to use either like a deep conditioner! :nono: So far my roots are still soft and I'm 10 weeks post. As far as I know, ladies have been using the MT on their scalp and leaving it in. I'll just continue with my normal regimine of moisturizing my hair every day and there shouldn't be any problems. OP, sorry that you had a setback . Lay off the protein, moisturize and you should be back on track in no time!

Last week was my first experience with MT and I must say it did not go well at all. My hair was a tangled mess after using it, so this week I decided to try OCT. I did not buy the hair softener because everyone on here seems to use only the cell therapy. It too made my hair a tangled mess. I think I've lost more hair the past two weeks than I've lost all year. I'm so disappointed. Because of how much hair was lost, I'm afraid I will not meet my goal of making APL by December.:nono:

I used both OCT and MT as a pretreatment (not at the same time) and even combined them with a moisturizing conditioner hoping that it would soften my hair and left them both on overnight. The next day when I went to wash it out, my hair became tangled with each stroke of hair. It was a horrible nightmare. I didn't know how I was going to get my hair back to normal. Today, after using OCT, during my wash I had clumps of hair falling out. I was so scared and angry.:wallbash: The whole purpose of me using these products is to grow hair not lose hair. I think these two products have caused me to have a set back and I'm so upset.

On the bottle of OCT it says to run the product through your hair and massage into the scalp to make the hair grow and to make it strong and this is what I did; however, it only matted and tangled my hair so badly that I couldn't even get a comb to go through it. I got out of the shower and applied 10en1 and deep conditioned for 45 minutes and this did not help the tangles. My hair still tangled with each touch, so then I got out and applied EVOO to my hair and set under the dryer again for 30 minutes and this was the only thing that helped me comb through my hair. I still lost hair but not as much.

Has anyone else encountered tangling and matting when using these products? Maybe it's different if you have relaxed hair, but I'm over 6 months post relaxer and it doesn't take much for my hair to become a tangled mess. If this happens to you, please let me know what you do.

And if it doesn't happen to you, please let me know how you are using these products to benefit your hair.

Because everyone has had great success in using the products, I'd like to continue to use them, but not at the expense of losing my hair and not meeting my goal.

Any suggestions you may have are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for listening to me vent.......I so needed to do this!:yep:
First...... :bighug:

I'm so sorry that you had this experience.

Okay now I'm going to 'fuss' a little, (just a little). :yep:

Angel when starting a product for the very first time, we have to go slow. Because you used both the MT and the OCT so close and in such extended measures, your hair is reacting to a major adjustment to protein overload.

Your precious head of hair experienced a protein shock and it has to recover from it.

Leave both products alone for now. Baby your hair with some DC treatments such as Garlic and Oil (making a loose paste of garlic powder and Olive Oil or Castor Oil). Stay away from all proteins for a least a month to bring your hair back to 'balance'.

THEN before trying anything else, ask God to show you what is right for your hair. He WILL guide you and provide for you all that you need to achieve your beautiful crowning glory. If it's the Mega Tek OR Ovation, it will be used minimally to avoid another disaster such as the one you just experienced.

It's not the end, only the beginning of learning what's right for your new hair growth. And I am definitely praying for you to have all that you need and a head full of beautiful long flowing hair. :giveheart:

Thanks, my hands have been slapped many times during this thread and trust me, I have learned my lesson! All I can do is move on now. Thanks for responding it is appreciated.

Yeah sweetie, that ORS has Collagen , I had major protein overload from leaving that stuff in. Your hair is probably feeling different with the bottle because they are exactly the same, because of the protein overload you already have. if you cant get your hand on some deep moisturizing Conditioner right away use lots of natural oils in between then

I agree. ORS is definitely not the solution. I am also sensitive to protein and when I left this on overnight I had a similar tangled situation. Some ladies on here consider ORS a mild protein conditioner.

Also, I think part of the reason for your initial problem is that you were using MT/OCT as a pretreatment. I am assuming you mean that you were using it on dry hair. There are only a few conditioners that work well for me when I use them as a pre-poo on dry hair. And most of those are cheapie conditioners that have no protein.

Also, if I understood correctly, you mixed the MT/OCT with other conditioners when you used each. I have not seen other women doing that from what I have read in the challenge. I have seen them mix it with oils, Vitamin E, honey, etc...but not with conditioners. Something about the mix may have been part of the problem.

Glad to see that you were able to get so much advice-- goodluck regaining your moisture balance!

Both of these products high protein levels in them. And your hair may not have needed it applied to the entire length. I suggest deep conditioning with a moisturizing conditioner to get your hair back.
HTH!

I fully agree with you:yep:
OP I hope you continue to use MT or OCT, and get great results now!
