Are you planning to relax your hair once it get to a certain legnth or when you reach your goal? I'm just curious :look:

One of the main reasons I decided to go natural is to start over with healthy hair. I dont have a problem with natural hair I think it looks beautiful. I'm definately going to give it a try.

But I do think that one day I may end up relaxing again. Because I love straight hair and as it gets longer I want to show off the length!

So anyway are there any ladies who are natural only temporarily

if so when do you plan to relax?

I'm 6ms post my last relaxer right now and I want to do my darndest not to put another relaxer in my hair ever again. I need to get straight i'll just blow it out or something. Nothing against relaxed heads...I was there myself for almost 20 years.

To my knowledge, I'm never going to relax. Relaxers are too harsh on my scalp and I actually like my natural hair better. I'm not even real sure if I will ever press my hair again because I like it kinky/curly so much.

No. The only reason why I transitioned was to enjoy my curls. I'll never relax again. Plus relaxers just don't look good on me.

I would rather not put a relaxer in my hair ever again and just stick to flat ironing, pressing, or blow outs but I dont know if the constant heat would be more damaging than relaxing... what do you think? relaxing maybe every 3months or flat ironing twice a month?

I may texlax if I can't really manage my hair when it gets to WL. If I can get my styles together and I can deal with it, then I won't bother with any chemicals. But I get overwhelmed now and it's not even APL!! I'm sure I'll regret it sooner or later if I did, so it's probably best to not even go down that road and have to start all over again.

Been there, done that. I thought I was going to do it again but for my head it's pointless. It will start off fine but down the road the relaxed hair doesn't stay as healthy as I would like and I end up transitioning and starting all over again. I don't even wear straightened hair that often anyway and it's even less now that I'm military and doing the daily PT thing.

ETA: If i make WL and feel like it is too much to handle, I'll just cut back to BSL and maintain that length instead of going back to chemicals.

I think taking the time to grow out natural hair and then relaxing it is a waste. I did this...was natural for 4 years and when I reached APL I thought "finally I can relax." But I didn't know to maintain relaxed length and it all broke off.

If you can't grow out relaxed length , I don't see how one could keep it.

I'm growing my relaxed hair long currently, and I've learned how to deal with it in this state inch by inch so when it is long I'll know how to keep it on my head. :-)

I don't plan on relaxing my hair ever again. If it gets to be too much of a hassle when it grows out, I'll just cut it back to my big chop length which I LOVE!

I don't know what the future holds for me in terms of me relaxing again. It could or could not happen. I do like straight hair as well as my natural curls/kinks. To be honest, I always hated the feeling when the relaxer creme touch my scalp and I never really knew why but I like the result.

Depends on your hair and whether or not you will use heat once you're relaxed. If you're going to be flat ironing your relaxed hair, then that will definitely be more damage. But flat ironing natural hair twice a month isn't that damaging if you are skilled. And it depends on how much your hair can actually take. But I don't see the point in going natural, growing out your hair, and then relaxing again. What if you discover you've made a mistake? Then you'll have to start all over again. I definitely regret relaxing 3 years ago because now I have to grow all of my hair out from scratch!

I completely agree.

Nooooooooooooooooo ... not at all. I don't like the way relaxed hair looks on me. If I just have to have straight hair, I'll just flat iron it.

I can safely say that I'll never relax my hair again.

I also will not relax. I've been in love with natural hair long before I thought about going natural myself. I can't wait for the day that I think that my hair is too much to handle. That's probably when I know that I have reached my hair goal.

If I do anything, it will be locs or chopping it off short, maybe 3 inches. No more relaxers for me. Though I've heard of people doing this.

This makes sense to me. If you want to grow your relaxed hair long then you need to learn how to grow your relaxed hair long. Experiment, try products, hone your skills and regimen. Be willing to deal with small setbacks.
If you grow your natural hair long and then relax...you will still have to learn the ins and outs and ups and downs of taking care of your relaxed hair. You'll have to go through the "journey" anyway, possibly with some more keenly felt setbacks (because your hair will start out so long already).

I'm not "newly" natural, but I was relaxed for almost 2 decades, and can't imagine going back to relaxing. I do like my hair straight, which is why I'm learning to grow my hair out while straightening it myself, but I have no desire to use a relaxer to do it.

My sentiments exactly:yep:.

I can safely say that I am not ever going to relax my hair again. I love my natural hair too much and I don't like chemicals. If I wanted to wear it straight frequently, I would just become a pro at carefully straightening, like Miss Pinkskates.
If you are concerned about damage, I personally think that relaxed hair is not much different than heat trained hair and if I had to choose one, it would be the heat training.

Nope, not at all. Relaxers would lead to split ends for me every single time and the hassle of going to a stylist to just press my hair into oblivion with that heat is just not worth it. Healthy hair comes first and my hair is thriving when it's natural. Plus, I want to show off my God-given texture, not strip it away. Just my opinion. :yep:

i already know i will never relax again. its pointless for me, im just not interested in straight hair.

Never, my hair is way too healthy and thick when straight or curly, my hair relaxed has never looked this way, so its a definite no
