Newfound silicone appreciation

After avoiding silicones for quite a while (or trying to, I don't know the names of them all), last night I used a conditioner that had dimethicone as one of the main ingredients. When I was rinsing it my hair felt ok, didn't think it was anything special. But this morning my hair is so smooth! It's almost like it has been blowdried.

I didn't even wrap my hair last night (which usually smooths my hair) as my scarf was in the wash, I just put it in a plait.

I probably won't use it that often due to the buildup it supposedly causes but I will definitely use it occasionly when I want a good hair day!

For people in the UK, the conditioner was Superdrug's henna deep conditioner, which I don't think is any more than £2 for a pretty big tub.
 
I agree with the silicone appreciation. I found it in Garnier Fructis & it has helped with my frizz issues! :)
 
Have any of you noticed any downsides to using the silicones after a while? I used another silicone-rich conditioner yesterday. It's addictive! Frizz is practically non-existant!

Well, if there is, I haven't experienced any, and I've been using silicone-rich products for a LONG time. I do clarify often to keep the build-up at bay.

That is the key to controlling silicone build-up. For years I used Motions conditioners which are well known for their silicone and hair smoothing ingredients. Well after a time my hair stopped responding to Motions conditioners. When I first started using Motions, my hair always felt smooth and looked glossy. Now I can't use them because they make my hair really hard. Also, I hardly ever clarified. Now, I use clarifying shampoo every month or so. I still have silicone based products like JF Frizz Ease, but no Motions for me.;)

My point is after long periods of using silicone based products, the silicone builds up on your hair and forms a layer, which can be hard to remove. Therefore, clarifying regularly helps to control the deposits of the silicone on the hair's surface.:)

I'll continue using these products then (alternating with my non-silicone ones... I've got a lot of stuff to use...) and remember to clarify.
