 Hello, you've inspired me to come out of the shadows and into the light Bre. My name is Zerris. I've been lurking since last year sometime. My cousin was the one who showed me LHCF. She's known about LHCF for sometime now but she is still a lurker. I asked her why she was just now telling me about the site and she was like: I don't know... I looked at her like she was  . I'm actually at work right now! Can't wait to call her & tell her that I actively participated today!!! I'm like 4? relaxed, with the help of LHCF it's starting to brush my shoulders. I wear falls & wigs a lot but have recently started using a mixture of glycerin, dove sheer moisture & water on my hair when it's under the wig. Wash 2-3 times out of the week. I've always conditioned with mayonaisse and followed up with another conditioner just to make it smell nice even before coming to LHCF. The information that I get from this site is valuable and everyone here is so supportive of each other & the goals that they are trying to accomplish. Sorry if this is too long, just wanted to say hi :)

Bre-bre, you're so nice...! I was kinda nervous to post too after Shima....but anyway...

HI! My name is Kiesha and I just joined yesterday. I have a fotki that describes how my hair was before LHCF and it's progress. But briefly, my mom relaxed my and my twin's hair when we were in the 5th grade cuz she got tired doing our hair the same :lachen: . For the most part it stayed healthy because we wore french braids everyday. Then we started doing our own hair in middle school and it broke off badly. Our stylist also burned the heck outta our scalps every 6 weeks :perplexed . So we changed stylists and our hair became very healthy, but she liked to cut too much and we still got burned for every relaxer.

I did an internship in D.C. and got kinky twists so I wouldn't have to worry about my hair and it grew so much, I was hooked. The second time I did it (last summer) was when I damaged my hair. I had just found LHCF and so soooo excited to try new things I just jumped in the shower and washed my hair without combing it first. By the time I was done, I had more hair on the floor and sink than on my head. Also, my hair had never been damaged before so yall know I was in tears. This was in Dec 2006.

So now I'm in kinky twists again trying to grow my hair out. I've never waited long enough between relaxers and now I have enough new growth to love what I see! Now I'm wondering if I should cut off all that damaged hair and start over....

Welcome Kiesha! Yes, we spoke briefly yesterday. Your hair is beautiful. Make sure you want to bc before you do it. Is that a current pic in your sig?

Im a newbie.:) I started a thread a few days ago introduceing myself. Basically I've been doing this hair thing for about a year and some change and I've recently decided that I need to step my hair game up a bit, hence me ponying up my 5 bucks and officially joining this board.

I started off growing my hair in Dec 05 freshly out of a weave. Didn't cut, trim or anything, bought Cathy Howse's book and products and started a fotki. My progress has been slow, but I have progressed...so I'm happy with that. :look:

My reasons for joining this board is to tap into a different group of ladies that may be doing somethings that I have not yet tried or heard of. Also the board seems to have a different feel, so since Im all for change here I am.

My major hair challenges are:

Finding a cream moisturizer that truly moisturize.

Combating breakage (retaining length)

Keeping my hair from tangling and matting

Hey Bre-Bre! Hmm, the pic is not really recent; it was taken in May after I did my second relaxer with Phyto and let my hair airdry in a braid. But nothing really changed with my hair since then...I put in kinky twists a month later.

Hey Zerris!!

Hey Zerris!!

Kiesha I am TRYING really hard to see the damage you are talking about. Where it at????

Lol, I guess it's hard to see cuz my hair is growing out. But my ends are really chewed up. My hair is really uneven when I combed out all the knots. At first I wanted to just leave it alone cuz I wanna keep my length, but I gotta be real with myself. I have cut up pieces everywhere, especially on my left side cuz that's where I had to comb out/cut out most of the knots. This is what my hair looked like in January:

I've heard that damaged ends can travel up the hair shaft and damage the rest of the hair, which is why I was contemplated cutting it off before I do any more damage. But I'ma send u a pm, cuz I don't wanna jack the thread...

 I've been lurking on this board for about 2 years. I have had short damaged hair for pretty much my whole life. This board has given me alot of tips and inspiration for taking care of my hair. I'm on the APL challenge and I think I will be able to pull it off. Anyway, Bre, thanks for giving a shout out to the lurkers of the board.;)

Hi :D Thanks for coming out of lurkdom. Thanks for reminding me because I need to update the apl list ;)

Hi Everybody! This is my first post. I've been lurking for the past several months, and in that time, I've learned so much from you ladies!

My hair is at just about the top of my brastrap. It has been that length for the past several years, which has been extremely frustrating for me. I used to go to the salon once a week and get a flatiron. I also have color in my hair. Since finding LHCF, I've cut my trips to the salon. Maybe I go once every 2-3 months now. I'm also trying to grow my color out which is a very scary process, since I have had it this way for so long. I've been wearing my hair natural and I'm loving it. I'm actually retaining more length now!

So thanks to all of you for the great tips! And thanks for starting this post, Bre~Bre! It's nice to come out of Lurking!!!!

Hi StarExcel!! You mention that your hair is at brastrap and has been there for years. Do you think there is a reason for that?

Coming out of lurkdom to say hi. I love this board. My hair has come a long way. I learned so much about protective styles and my hair is thanking me for it. Ok back to lurk mode

Oh! Good question. I never knew the importance of taking care of my ends...Deep conditioning and protective styling have done so much for me. :)
