Hi I’m Dee, long time addict, first time poster…
I stumbled upon this site a few months ago looking for info on Dominican Blowouts. I never did get one though…instead I began to learn so much about healthy hair care. I am currently shoulder length in the back, chin length in the front, 12 weeks post relaxer, and with the great info I learned about managing my new growth, I’m going to be stretching indefinitely! My ultimate goal is healthy APL hair, I don’t think I could handle much more. Right now I’m hiding my hair under a wig for the winter, I moisturize and seal it twice a day. I went thru the archives and read the vast majority of the posts on the board, taking notes, so I don’t have too many questions, I’m just looking forward to growing with all of you!
Oh yeah, about my 6 heads… the first head is me, my 2nd and 3rd head are my 2 and 3 year old daughters. They are 11 months apart but it feels like twins most days – except their hair is complete opposites! My two year old has very coarse dry hair, but she enjoys getting her hair co-washed and braided, and with the great tips I got here on keeping her hair moisturized, I know I will never have to resort to relaxing her hair out of frustration. My 3 year old has a head full of long corkscrews, but she hates getting her hair done. I usually keep it in a loose pony puff, or a few plaits if I can do her hair while she’s sleeping.
Head # 4 is my 11 year old daughter. She has APL natural hair, I usually air dry it with the ponytail method, and it dries really straight, occasionally I rollerset it, but that’s a work in progress. She really wants to grow her hair to waist length one day, so I am trying to instill in her the importance of healthy hair care and patience.
Head #5 is my 16 year old daughter. She has neck length relaxed hair. It grows like a weed and she gets it cut every 3 months. She had no desire for long hair right now, and I’ll respect that as long as she keeps it healthy. She got her first relaxer last year and has decided she wants to transition back to natural when she graduates HS next year (wow, i'm gettin old).
Head #6 is my mom, she has been staying with me since my dad passed early this year. She has lovely grey shoulder length natural hair, it is very thick, and she enjoys her wash n’ go.
I would include my DH as my 7th head but I just shave it bald every week and he’s good to go.
Sorry this was so long and thank you all so much for sharing your advice and experiences with me. I will start an album as soon as I figure out how! Happy Hair Growing!
