New Growth Chaos

OKAY, decided to transition and my new growth feels like a brillo pad and looks like one too. No curl definition. Some light, light waves and no curl pattern. What can I use to keep it moisturized without it being greasy.

Carol's daughter?
Hairveda?

I need some help!!!!!

20 weeks post. Not ready to relax at this time.

Well I'm a long term stretcher and the following things keep it smooth sailing:

Hairveda strinillah mixed with Shescentit SS Honey Rinse.
Silk Elements Megasilk Moisturizing Treatment mixed with coconut & olive oils.
Aphogee 2 min
Whipped unrefined shea butter

I'm only stretching as well, but I find that S-Curl really works wonders on my new growth...it makes it really moist and soft.
And I like to whip unrefined shea butter with generous amounts of coconut oil, and that also really helps soften my new growth.

The S-Curl can get greasy if you use too much, but it's usually fine. And the shea butter is never greasy. My new growth just drinks it up. :yep:

Good luck with your transition!

Thank you guys for your response. I tried shea butter and it felt like wax on my hair. I like s-curl but a little greasy. Keep the suggestions comming.

What about the aveda products?

Coconut oil will make it soft, especially if it's used on a continuous basis. You could experiment with other products, but you definitely won't go wrong with coconut oil.

I agree with the coconut oil. I'm only 13 weeks post, so I don't really have a lot of new growth but I do have one area in the back of my head that is more coarse and tends to get drier than the rest of my hair.

I use coconut oil and a creamy water based moisturizing leave in (Paul Mitchell the conditioner for now) heavily in that area and that keeps it soft and hydrated.

Sometimes I add some conditioner and just use that as a leave in and it works well.

Love coconut oil but was looking for a creamy type of natural moisturizer. Thank you everyone. May try some hairveda.

Yup. Definitely S-curl. I use to use it when my hair was shorter (when I discovered the site). I recently came back to it and I barely use anything else in my hair. You can actually comb through NG with this.

You are going to have 'tweak your Regi' to get it down for your stretch. I suggest Qhemet Olive Honey Hydrating Balm and the Burdock Root Creme. And the Coco Tree Detangling Ghee. These Products (and others) helped me make it through a 16 week stretch.

You will have to determine what products will work for you. I also used Cantu Shea Butter and a Host of other Butters & Oils and Cremes to help make it easy. Stretching becomes easier with time, patience and practice.:yep:

I recently added TW PMB and SheScentIt Moisture Mist to tame NG.

Woo girl! I concur. When the new growth starts fightin back, I have been using an overnight pre-poo treatment of shea and vatika oil on my hair with a plastic cap. Drinks it up is right:yep:

I'm natural but you could try Kinky-Curly Knot Today leave-in conditioner. One of my relaxed friends that is transitioning used it and she likes it. Straightened her roots out and left it soft. A little goes a long way. Also, as was mentioned I agree that a coconut oil/olive oil mix overnight prepoo would really help. Good luck!
