Naturals, what was the determining factor that made you go natural?

I got offended by the idea of being required to have relaxed hair to be acceptable. I've been natural since the early 90's. In the beginning, I faced a lot of pressure to relax. I never realized how much pressure there was on women and girls to relax their hair until I stopped. I got commentary, advice, and dire warnings from family, schoolmates and even strangers in the street.

I couldn't understand why people were so offended by the fact that I let my hair grow out of my head as it is.The intense reaction my natural hair provoked just made me dig in deeper and commit to staying natural.

I just got tired of my relaxed hair. Been relaxed for over 20 years. It seemed no matter how much care I gave to my hair, nothing was working for me. So, I made the decision to stop relaxing, but I still used heat regularly. SMH! I ended up bc'n after 10 post last relaxer. I've been very pleased by thus far. Much thicker, fuller hair. No heat in the summer and limited heat in the winter. I still got a ways to go before I will truly be satisfied with my hair, but overall it was the right choice for me.

I'd been natural, relaxed just to have straight hair for awhile, five years later I am going back to natural because I get so annoyed with the whole relaxing process and having to cater everything to that next relaxer date. I liked my relaxed hair, it was long, happy and beautiful, but I happen to think its easier being natural, so I am going back to natural.

Breakage, Breakage and the never ending cycle of growing to Bsl and thinning ends caused by the breakage. After all that a terrible round of post partum shedding pushed me over the edge.
