I want to wear my hair like this; but I want and additional 3 inches in length.

I selected all the options in the poll except #5 which was the one about texturizing. Texturizing is not natural.

I would like the option to wear each of these looks:

Perfectly defined curls/coils that bounce as you walK
Big bushy hair worn down and combed out
One or two thick long natural plaits or french braids

...and just plain healthy natural hair.

Agreed and I considered not including it, but realized that there are some naturals on this board who texturize, or are considering it, who can still wear natural styles.

big and busy and straight styles too. seems like it will take another 2 years to get the proper length so that i can do the big and busy style so it will look right on me

How can you wear a "natural" style and not be natural?

Orrrr.... there's a gap in agreement on the definition of what's natural or is there no such thing as a "natural style"? And even the term "natural style" is almost insulting.

I agree with Poohbear's post.

I agree about texted hair not being natural in sense that natural hair refers to chemical free. However, I do see a lot of marketing/advertising using the "natural style" term in salons and in mags. I think this alludes to braid/twist outs and the Kinky Twist extention styles that are worn by women with natural and chemically straigntened hair. Because those style do give the "look" of natural textured hair. I really believe that's where the term is derived.

As for me I voted on the poll before reading the first post...:lachen:, so I only was able to choose one option. I like variety in styles so I like them all except for the texted option.... been there done that. But texturized does look wonderful on some....Firecracker comes to mind.

I desire that look that will make people go :eek: :love: bigger than a BAA venturing into dare I say Hair Porn....basically more hair than the average person would even know what to do with. :drool: :D

That would be my altimate goal, but i will also try all of these styles mentioned on the list on the way

Only because there are ladies on here who are natural or transitioning who, in the future (not necessarily meant for someone who has already texturized their hair), might consider texturizing to a slighty looser pattern.This thread isn't only for type 4 ladies...there are type 2 and 3 ladies who are indeed "natural". The options of someone who is "texturized" might be similar to what a natural type 2 or 3 is able to do with their hair. And though I don't consider someone who is texturized to necessarily be text book natural, someone texturizing from 4a to 3b still has the option of wearing the same styles as myself.

I chose three options, eventhough I love all of them.
Perfectly definied curls that bounce when you walk, b/c I dream of doing the perfect rollerset or straw set on my natural hair and having it be bouncy and fly.
The long hair in a braidout or twistout, kinda amel larriuex esque
and the one or two natural plaits. There used to be a girl in my kindergarten class who used to wear all her hair in one or two thick long braids hanging to the back. My ultimate goal is be to that girl.

I LOVE her hair, but wonder if my hair could mimick that style? I'm guessing my hair would have to be waist stretched, to look like hers with a twistout.

Very interesting! I liked your questions. My only beef is that the natural in me was like what? "Natural hair that has been slightly texturized and worn straight or in curls" -that's not natural hair if it's been texturized in anyway. it's texturized :) Anyway, all the responses have been really interesting to read. Thanks for posting your poll and question :) very cool!

I agree that it is not natural, but it IS an option for someone who is natural at the moment and looking for a change. It has some votes. I'm not one of them, a texturizer would NOT GO WELL on this hair. ;)

I voted texturized since that's the route I chose, but my goal style is a long braided ponytail.

OT: I know I just went to her concert, and can you believe she cut her hair? It's a little below shoulder length and she was wearing it not in a braid of twist out, it was really beautiful. She said it was her summer hair cut, and figure if you have hair that long you probably do want to take it down a notch in the summer, and cut it. sorry for the off topic post.:ohwell:

I voted for one or two long french braids and other because:

  1. Due to shrinkage, I would love to flaunt bsl twists one day, and
  2. The longer my hair gets the more I want to wear it up so I would love to rock some slick back stylish pinned up hairstyles :grin:.

I want YOUR hair! I love the blow dried picture in your album:)

I voted natural hair worn straight most of the time. I just want long hair so darn bad. I'd probably eat dog food if it would make my hair grow super-long real fast! Grow dang it!!!!

ETA...Really, I wouldn't...

I voted:
Natural hair styled to a T (twists, braids, locs, etc...)
Big bushy hair worn down and combed out
One or two thick long natural plaits or french braids
and Other.

For most of my natural 'life', I've worn twists, braids (with my own hair or extentsions) or locs.
Just since starting the hair journey have I ever considered wearing my hair down & bushy, because I finally think that it might get long enough to wear that way. This is my hair dream, one day:

But longer. :lachen:

The one or two french twists are my current lazy style, and suspect that it will be my go to style until my hair is long enough to always be able to do the 'other' choice - buns & updos.

When I can pull off this I won't know what to do with myself. :lol:

I couldn't just vote for one. All of the checked ones are my style:
MyLook-vi.jpg

On the other, I'd add that cornrows, threading styles, raffia wiggles (Does anyone remember these?), straw sets, bantu knots, headwraps...to name a few.

* long defined braid-outs.
* huuuuge BAAs
* big single puff
* long or big defined twist-outs
* WL sleek straight hair when flat-ironed

i love natural hair for the versatility!

I love B-I-G hair and voted for perfectly defined coils/curls that bounce when you walk. I love wearing my WnG's and feeling it move and bounce when I walk or move about :yep:. I want Leela James/Chaka Khan (my nickname @ work already) big, but w/more control and curls & waves. I tell my BFF all the time I can see my hair out big, red, and curly just blowing in a Caribbean breeze, my bangles gently clanging together w/my maxi dress, big sunglasses, hoop earrings, pink lipgloss, chewing a piece of bubble gum and blowing a ginormous bubble :look: Just a mental picture I have for some reason.

That's all I want too, like the girl in my avatar.

OT.: STL, love your hair in your siggy:yep:

whatever look it can pretty much bring me. I like twists, but i don't want that to be an everyday hairstyle for me. When i was relaxed i wanted to experiment with different styles but it was so hard because you can't do too much with shoulder length hair thats flat, and not that thick. I like the long bushy look, you know natural hair thats been combed out or that's been blown out. I also like the idea of a huge fro. But also i'd like to wear my hair in wash n go's with nice defined curls...i don't think i'm gonna really wear it straight because even transitioning now i don't like straightening my hair.

i will never wear cornrows, and i'll never probably wear braids..lol i got them so much as a kid, i hope to never wear them again. but i've always always dreamed of having a super long french braid lol.
