Naturals, what is the trick to straighten rollerset roots?

I have been natural since Dec. It is getting cold where I live, so I have started to rollerset my hair. After a long two hours, my hair looks nice, except for the wavy roots. I dont want to start putting direct heat on my hair like curling irons and flat irons, so is there any way possible to have to straight roots??

I'm not natural but I use this brush to get my roots straight while i'm stretching.

It gets the roots really straight and adds shine to my hair, I use this with Salerm brushing spray on the roots. this gets any type of hair straight with blow dryer.

Someone mentioned a while back sectioning your hair into ponytails then putting rollers on the ends. I tried it once and will never try a regular rollerset again.

My roots never get super straight since I stopped relaxing but considering how thick my hair is - it's the best.

Now all I have to do is lightly flat iron my roots if I want a sleeker look and this is optional

Hope this helps

Using Curlformers and Ponytail sets get my roots pretty straight...
My hair is mostly 3c... it's actually pretty easy to get the roots straight...
it's getting the length to not curl/frizz up on the roller for me...
so for that I really have to go with curlformers

co Sign on pony sets. They totally straighten out the roots a lot. Then if you wnat to flat iron a little you can, but otherwise they'll stay straight. The trick is to make sure your hair is super wet with whatever you put in it, I use coconut oil to seal my lacio lacio, but whatever you use, make sure to continue spraying the mixture, and then pony set..

Does it take longer for the hair to dry where the pony tail holder is? Does anyone have pic's of their ponytail rollerset? I would love to see, I may try this method next wash.

I second that! Curlformers are the best at getting straight, shiny hair w/o heat.

I go to the dominican's and have them set me really tight on medium size rollers because i'm to lazy to do my hair myself. My roots come out STRAIGHT and I def. say NO to the blow dry after because I don't need it. I'm natural, 4a, BSL.

Wow, I would love more details on this. I've been pretty successful with curlformers on my natural hair, but I want to start experimenting to get a longer lasting set. Do you know what products they use and what type of rollers they use, the magnetic? How long does your set last? I know when I've tried to separate the curls, I got frizz. But I'm wondering if gel is causing some of this....I use a non alcohol gel for hold, but I can't really separate the curls because they get frizzy. Thanks in advance.

...b u m p i n g...

I need to step up my roller setting game but my roots are always fuzzy. I do the ponytail sets and that helps but my roots still look frizzy/fuzzy. TIA

I have some pics in my fotki.

Ponytail sets and a silk wrap gets my roots straight, no need for a rlat iron.

This is really frustrating for me too. The longer the hair gets the harder it is.

No it doesn't take longer. Sorry I don't have pics but some others do in their fokti's. You can just think of it this way. Two ponytails on the side. One in the middle (bang) and divide back into half (either put two ponys there, or to get it even smoother, divide again until you have four sections. Place pony tails there). I make sure to have snaggles pony tail holders, and coat w/ olive oil, so that it doesn't scissor hair. Make sure hair is wet w/ product of your choice (I like lacio lacio with lots of water in a spray bottle), When you have your wet ponys, make sure the ends are super wet, comb through, and then roll them up. Tada!
