I need help!
I've been transitioning since March and haven't found a good moisturizer yet

!
Currently I'm using Elasta QP recovery, s-curl and IC hair polish but something is making my new growth dry and my relaxed strands oily.
I have combed Stockholm for Carols Daughters products to no avail

Anyone know of anything similar?

Hmmm....from my experience, not much worked for both my relaxed and my natural strands during my transition. My advice to you is to eliminate one product at a time until the dryness and oiliness disappears. Also, condition, condition, condition! Regular conditioning with the most moisturizing conditioner you can find will keep your new growth from being so dry and your relaxed strands from needing so much oil.

Hope this helps...

Nina,

I've been having the exact same problem (transitioning since July), so I'm looking forward to replies...

I use Care Free Gold Curl Moisturizing (that stuff really moisturizes), Surge (check the thread for that), Elasta QP Mango Butter, just different products, I use these products usually at one time because I am usually wearing a wig or some other protective style so I can moisturize as much as I need to without feeling weighed down because my hair is hardly ever exposed.

I've been using Mizani Rose2O. I use it on my daughter's hair so I experimented with mine. It works a lot better for me than oils.

Nina, how about trying Peachtree's regimen as described in the Feature of the Month (September 2003). She has had the best of both worlds with it and that's how she discovered she loved her natural hair. And I don't think she has encountered dryness in either hair.

The reason I'm not a PJ thus far is I tried samples from L'Anza (the Dry Formula line) which sounded sooooo good just from reading their website and reviews and the ingredient list. But after using the poo, CO and treatment once... my hair felt horrible. For one, I couldn't stand the "layer" it seemed to get. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't ugly, but it sure as heck wasn't my nice clean, shiny, natural looking no-smell-at-all hair. It had a nice smell, but it didn't feel as soft as usual, it looked duller than usual... I honestly panicked thinking the progress I'd made since joining this board was going to be ruined by one darn experiment. I used my usual poo and conditioner and went right back to my natural oils/essential oil regimen. And I have never looked back. I get tempted by all the raves about products but I now know better than to "fix what ain't broke".

Sorry for seeming to off on a tangent but I just wrote that to say that sometimes, less is best, and Peachtree's success is a great testament to that. Sometimes just considering what the different ingredients bring to your hair can help you zero in on the specifics your regimen needs to suit YOUR hair, and that could cut down on a whole list of products.

Everyone's hair is different so this may be or may not be your problem.

I had alot of breakage for a few months and could not understand that dispite all the moisturising and washing that my hair was still dry. What I discoverd was that my hair really hates oil.

Oil on my relaxed hair was fine but Oil on my natural hair was not good. Anything with oil in it drys out my hair.

The Oil seemed to work as a barrier and blocked out any moisture to my hair. It just coated my hair, untill I shampooed it out.

At this time I use the S-curl activator gel or carefree products and this has stopped the dryness completely as well as the breakage.

So check the products that you are using to see if they contain alot of oil. Maybe this is it.

Hey Nina! How ya been?

I'm just taking a stab here...have you tried using a gel other than the Fantasia IC hair polisher gel? I have noticed that this gel is a LOT thicker than the gel I normally use and it seems to be a bit drying probably b/c of it's thickness.

I use Fantasia Frizz Buster Gel which is a lot thinner so it doesn't build up and doesn't dry my hair AT ALL.

These are just my observations. I have been using the Frizz Buster Gel since June and I have only used the IC gel a few times. Both are great gels that I'll continue to use but there's no way I could use the IC hair polisher gel without washing every day.

Since you can't find HHB, have you been able to find any other creamy type moisturizer? I have used ORS carrot oil on my new growth before and it worked similary to the HHB.

Yep, it might be the Hair Polish that is drying out your hair. I feel it's more of a serum than a gel though. Hope you find something good soon.

That's for the replies!

Hmmm, maybe I should give that polish a rest and I'm gonna go get some Care Free Gold!
I've tried carrot creme but it did nothing for me although my sister has it has one of her staples!

Hey Hairlove!

I'm always in your album and your hair is coming along GREAT!
Looking VERY good, girl!

There is no Surge, Mizani, Frizzbuster to be found in this country

.
And nonie, I would love to use less!
I am a PJ and I have been looking at the L'anza stuff a looooong time, I'm just not that keen to buy

white-people products.
But the difference between me and Peachtree is that she has good hair, my hair could use a spanking!

I'm going to braid it tonight so it'll be able to rest for 5 weeks, who knows, maybe itll come to it's senses!
