Naturals how are you keeping your hair touchable?

Specifically type 4 hair. If the time ever came I want my partner to be able to touch my hair and it not be super wet from a wash and go or greasy from a blow out. My hair is never greasy but for some reason when I blow dry my hair the only moisturizer that I have in my possesion that actually works is Aloe vera juice and glycerin and that makes my neck and ears sticky and my hair greasy...but it def makes my hair uber soft. So what styles are you doing so that your man can enjoy your hair as much as we do?

I might fall asleep but I will check on this topic later. TIA

What have you tried so far? What works for me is to use a cream moisturzier and seal it with some oil and then air dry. In the morning my hair is nice and moist without being too greasy. Just make sure you don't overdue it on the oil LOL. I haven't gotten any complaints for my girl, she likes to run her fingers through my hair *nods*.-

what is your hairtype cause no fingers are running through mines.

I have tried wash n go puffs basically. I throw some gel on it and get my curls to popping and keep it moving. My hair when completly dry is soft but it takes atleast a day to compltley dry. I used to put some conditioner on it with a small amount of oil and let it airdry. But I can't just let my hair airdry free and go to bed. It will mat down my head. i don't know I guess I just need a good creamy moisturizer. Scurl is wet I want something that I can put on my dry hair.

G - I never moisturize dry hair. I always spritz with at least water first. I guess if you're doing blow-outs that won't work for you.

On straightened hair I use a mix of coconut and olive oil. They have small enough molecules to where they can actually penetrate the hair strand and nourish the cortex. :yep:

When wearing my hair out I don't re-moisturize in full each day - I just spray quick with plain water or some of the aloe vera/glycerine to shake it out and maybe a tiny bit of oil - but I don't re-add any cream moisturizer....I hope someone has some good product recs or you.

I have 4a hair on my crown and 4b in the back and on the sides of my head. When I wake up my hair is rarely ever completley dry. I forgot to mention that I do have BKT in my hair LOL, that is a big thing. However, before the BKT I would do twist outs regulalry and those worked for me. Have you tried those?

The leave-in conditiones I currently have are Yes To Cucumbers leave-in and Alba Botanicals leave-in as well. They are both natural leave in and I purchased the Yes to Cucumbers at Walgreens and the Alba at the local natural health store.

I have 2 that I like that, as a previous poster said, I don't have to re-moisturize everyday. I like HairVeda's Whipped Clouds (SheaAloe Butter) and AfroVeda's Kissi Seed Lotion. I use one or the other but with both I put the lotion on wet hair, run it through well and seal with extra virgin coconut oil.

HTH

Nourish daily with coconut oil. Hair loves it. It's soft, shiny and not greasy, and is one of the few oils that actually penetrates the hair.

Have I tried the twists or the BKT? I have tried twist but I hate how they look. I have Yes to Carrots condish collecting dust on my cabinet now. Are leave-ins ok for moisturizing? I always thought that they were something you put on the you put on a moisturizer then seal. i might try the Yes to Cucumbers first since Walgreens is up the street.

I am type 4 and I use Afroveda (just about anything) in sparing amounts on my twists for t/o' or Hairveda Whipped Cream 3n1 Ends Hydration. They work well. Also, QB's Heavy Cream used VERY SPARINGLY. I really like QB for the winter months, but they all work well.

I use these products on my hair all the time. Not all together, just one at a time.

Henna helps too, along with weekly DT's.

HTH :yep:

ETA: Oyin Handmade's Whipped Shea butter is good stuff too!!!

:lachen: This topic always makes me laugh coz I have never imagined anyone running their fingers through my 4B hair when it's natural. I don't think my dad ever run his fingers through my mom's hair. Or his dad through his mom's hair. It's just such a foreign concept to me. Now when my hair was relaxed, I can see that happening and it'd just be like in the movies.

Now if you are just talking about touching your hair without his hands getting all greasy and icky, then that makes sense to me. I use S Curl when I'm wearing my afro. I have never gotten with the wet hair all the time thing coz I cringe at the thought of leaving marks everywhere I lean. But using S Curl on the day I wash my hair and then baggying every night and not reapplying till wash day keeps my hair uber soft and cool as if wet but not at all sticky. I could touch my hair and handle paper and not have marks all over the paper. So if anyone touched it then, then they'd be ai'ight.

But I'm not sure what it is we're doing while he's touching it coz if we're going to bed, I'm wearing my baggy on my head so there's no hair touching going on any place.

I've been wondering this too. I always cringe when someone gets ready to touch my hair and think," I hope you have a napkin, while you are putting your hand in my head."

I hope I find something that can give it the same look I get with activator gel sans the greasiness.

I guess the closest thing I use to a cream moisturizer is Suave Tropical Coconut con. I add some back in after washing/co-washing and seal that with oil. It's the only creamy leave-in that I use, and it's only that one time until I re-wash.

Sometimes if I want to recurl my ends I will add a dab more of the conditioner, but that's the only instance. I love that it doesn't leave me with a greasy feeling or lots of buildup. If you hair needs something heavier Lustrasilk Shea & Mango is really nice and has a pleasant scent. It's cheap too. :yep:

when i wear w&g my hair dries pretty fast because i put in my leave in and moisturizer and then pat my hair with a t-shirt to get most of the water out. by the time i leave the house my hair is soft and damp/dry. when my hair is not in a w&g its in braids/twists so he can pretty much always touch it.

hmm...i leave in conditioner and use coconut oil...thinking about trying just the coconut oil next time though. most people here seem to like coconut oil!

I try to alternate between the penetrationg oils and my leave in conditioners to moisturize. I find Jojoba oil as a sealant to be very non-oily so I use that a lot. I also use Oyin Juices and Berries often to moisturize and it doesn't leave my hair filmy and it smells good so it's a plus. I've been getting into a few hair milks as well. They usually soften my hair and moisturize as the same time. Maybe you can find products with both aloe vera juice and glycerin in them to minimize that sticky feeling?

I was thinking the exact way, stopping at the bolded. My grandma got 3a hair, so there was possibly some running fingers. lol If someone does get their fingers through my hair, then my fro would be messed up. :lachen: You can't just be messing a woman's hair like that thinking it's cute. :nono: lol

I use conditioner/water (as a leave in) and a little shea butter to keep my hair soft, everyday. Not running fingers through, but spongy soft.

Well for me, I don't put anything in my hair when I'm wearing a curly fro. I just let it air dry. My pics below don't have any product in them...if I remember correctly :scratchch ...maybe some shea butter at the roots and a little olive oil on the ends. But once my hair dries, it's not greasy at all.

I do more of a soak-n-go. I soak my hair with water, pat some of it out with a towel and rub some oil on the ends as I walk out the door. True, I have water runnin down my neck but in a few hours it'll be dry. :ohwell:

I have this problem too. Not with the grease thing, but with the wetness thing. When people touch my hair they're always asking why its wet. Lol.

The way I keep my hair moisturize with Palmer's Hair Milk or my whipped shea butter mixture. I really moisturize my hair on wash day, after that only use a small amount to keep it moisturize. I dampen my hair and apply hair milk and shea butter on ends. I only seal with oil on wash day. If I use it more than that my tends to get greasy.

love this stuff!

You can't run your fingers through my hair but SO likes to stroke it or twirl the curls sometimes. Occasionally he'll squish it all together or tug on it gently to watch it spring back. :spinning:

Try using eco styler gel over your curl activator gel and then blow dry until you can touch it without residue coming off. I think that will give you the look you are after.

My Mother has 4b hair and it took me a while to find what will keep her hair soft and moisturized....Cantu Shea Butter leave in works so well for her hair!!!! Her hair is soooooooooo soft and fluffy after. This is for now the ONLY product that has worked for her so far. :)

On wash days I usually use my mixture of olive oil and coconut oil, then throughout the rest of the week if I don't use my spray moisturizers I use Mango Butter. I'm in twists now and the Mango Butter has been working very well for me.

No matter how I wear my hair my husband or my youngest will have their hands in it at some point during the day. I keep it touchable weather braided , twisted or loose with my cocoshealoe mix. They don't "run their fingers through" it but they do grab, tug, sqoosh, & scratch my scalp :)

2strand twist and no pooing. Whenever I have a man, they can not keep their hands out of my hair and it doesn't bother me at all.

I even taught my exhusband how to do twist. They were a little crooked but he was so proud of himself. He jokingly said he would have to kill me if I told anyone he knew how to do hair. Surprisingly he had no problems saying he painted my toes. We still laugh about it to this day.

Right On Curl is the stuff for me, it works so great, and it does not leave my hair greasy at all, and my hair stays soft, I am so happy to have FINALLY found something that works for my hair, it keeps it soft and not greasy. The smell is not to good but it is not loud at all, but I can play in my hair and not have greasy fingers.
